Great video! How technology has changed in the radio station. I was on airstaff at my college radio station my senior year 1983 to 1984. The first two quarters I was on the air, I had a 12:00 midnight to 3 AM shift Sunday morning, then a 1 to 3 PM shift on Wednesday afternoons my last quarter. Back then we used to play vinyl records, and had to keep three turntables cued up at all times during my shift. We had to do two breaks an hour to back announce our music and do station promos and public service announcements. We used a cart machine to play recorded promos and announcements and had to read some. We were required to produce three recorded promos or public service announcements and record them to a cart per quarter to get a passing grade. Our music format at that time was New Wave/ Alternative. I never thought I would like being a DJ, but I ended up loving it. Many students in my major, Architecture, were DJ’s on the school station, and when I did my DJ Training course, I was able to sit in with two of my friends per week during their shows to learn the ropes. The school station is still up and running, but they have moved to a larger, state of the art studios in the same building. Weird Al Yankovich went to my college and was also a DJ on the school station. I heard he got fired for playing records backwards. However, he is now a big supporter of the station. He recorded one of his early songs in the men’s restroom across the hall from the previous station studios.

For a college station, neat to see Wide-Orbit for Automation! I was an on-air talent for the college I went to in Dayton, Ohio, and we just used RU-vid, etc, and they finally went to budget automation lol. I now run my own Internet station :)

It is hard having this passion and not working in it. I grew in the seventies and worked in radio for more than 15 years. with all the voice tracking and AI, sadly humans may not be needed. Thanks to all the clustering of stations in the 90's, no creativity I have friends who have stellar resumes in major market... all of em say the same thing, Big cooperate radio clusters have killed any form of creativity in the medium .. Set up a bedroom studio and do a podcast on something you love and are good at. that at least will scratch your itch to be on air. You can hear some of my stuff here. I changed careers to mental health. Thank God I did.

Thank you! Sadly, I’m not on air currently. So RU-vid is my only place right now. I didn’t end up going the route I thought I would. I work in finance now.

Nice! I really love love it but the job market right now it’s not great for any industry so it’s a bit difficult to find a position. My plan is to work on my podcast to continue practicing, if I don’t end up directly in radio. This way, I can sort of continue the radio voice work a little bit.

Lots of practice and listening to yourself objectively. I've been doing this since I was a kid in the 70's. You must feel comfortable and not try to sound like an announcer. Be YOU
