(Thanks BUTCH🤬) They also hold a defensive record where the Vols had 17 straight games where they were unscored upon. No one scored a single point on Tennessee for 71 straight quarters. That record will never be broken.

Being about the same age as Lou, I often forget younger fans don't realize teams like Tennessee, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Miami, and even Georgia Tech were really good in the past and most of those teams won national championships in my lifetime.

At the rate Schiano is recruiting right now, if he can keep the momentum over the next few years then be on the lookout for Rutgers.

The #1 program I see on the rise in the next 5 years is definitely Tennessee. Heupel is a legitimately good coach that is killing it in recruiting right now and seems like he can actually develop talent

I know the majority of the CFB world is low on Michigan State - and understandably so - but I do think that they will be a more competent, well-coached team over the next five years relative to the previous five. They now have a proven commodity at HC in Jonathan Smith and several position coaches, such as Demetrice Martin, Joe Rossi, and Jim Michalczik, among other coaches, who have done well at their previous stops. Outside of the 2021 season with Kenneth Walker III, which was a season in which they over-achieved, I think they can get back on track and start winning 7-9 games a year over the next half-decade. But that’s just my opinion as an MSU fan. Anyway, always enjoy your college football content, Lou, and hope you & your family are doing well. Can’t wait for week zero, and keep up the good work! Tennessee, this year, is that team that could go anywhere from 8-4 to winning it all. One thing is for sure, they are recruiting well right now. If that defense is as good as advertised and Heupel has a high scoring offense, which he usually does, then the sky is the limit. If they ever get to consistently recruiting a top 5 class then everyone, including Georgia, better watch out. They will definitely be a dangerous team who is probably the team that nobody wants to see on their schedule. With that said, my prediction for them this year is 10-2 with a playoff appearance.

I think Mizzou would be a candidate. Not even because of kast years pop season. They have buy in from the entire university and boosters right now, and its showing in their recruiting. I think if Eli has another great year, he may move on to a coaching vacancy at a bigger program. Maybe Florida. Which would be hilarious because he would get chewed up and spit out down there. But mizzou is becoming a slightly better location to be for a coach. And with the SEC and big ten basically making it a power two amongst the power four, some rising coach will want that job.

Vanderbilt’s last 5 years have been their worst in history since 1890. They have nowhere to go but up.

I think WVU should def be on that list. Brown inherited the worst WVU roster in the last 40+ years. One of the least talented and one of the youngest teams in all of D1, which for a developmental program like WVU that relies on well developed upperclassmen laden rosters to compete was going to take him time to build it back up. The best coaching job Ive ever seen was 2019 when Brown somehow got that roster to 5 wins. That was a 2 maybe 3 win team at best... Then comes NIL & Portal, and because WVU's NIL collective was late to the party WVU lost a lot of its better talent before the 2021 & 2022 seasons, as WVU couldnt even match basic offers... This is why Shane Lyons was replaced as AD. Obviously outside of Browns control. Even without showing much results on the field however Brown & staff has managed to recruit pretty well. Quality culture team-first players. Now results are showing on the field, our NIL collective is in a good place, I think we could see a new era of WVU football if the program takes another step this season despite a tough schedule.. Greene is a top 10 Heisman candidate, returning 6 of our starting+rotating 8 OL, CJ Donaldson & Jaheim White, All our young WRs(Ray, Clement, Gallanger- Freshmen last year) with 2 WR portal additions, a top pass catching TE in Kole Taylor, with Nicco Marchoil backing up Greene, which word is he has been one of the most improved players, so feeling really good after this season when its Niccos time to be QB1. We also have Scotty Fox & Brodie McWhorter incoming as well so the staff appears to have the QB position in a good spot even after Nicco's era ends. WVU will need to hit the portal after this season in this odd gap year to fill a few position groups, but we have a lot returning again next season, which I think sets WVU to be contender in the BIG12 again in 2025, but esp in 2026. We'll need to pickup 2 OL, 2-3 DT, 2 DE, & 3 DB after this season, but if Brown does well again this year I suspect fans will continue to contribute more to the Country Roads Trust, allowing Brown & staff to retain & pickup some high impact players next portal round. When people only look at Brown's record, thats a very surface level analysis. The "Why" isnt shown in the data, which most of which was completely outside of his control. Brown has every characteristic you want in a HC, it just took him a little longer to get the program's talent & experience above its historical avg.. I also appreciate Brown's willingness to detach his ego and change the philosophy at WVU. To get back to being what use to be our Brand of football. He also took a pay cut to take care of his assistants, which is the moves a leader makes when they care more about the team than "me".. Brown certainly hasnt been perfect, some bad calls here and there, but we can def see his improvements too from a HC & offensive perspective. WVU's opponents are much tougher this season, but when you dive deeper into the schedule there are some key advantages that will boost WVU's probabilities vs some of their tougher matchups. 1. PSU at Home. First game of the season for a team that has 3 new coordinators, a fresh ol, db, and a bit younger in a few areas than they were last season, except at QB+RB. Will it take PSU 2-3 qtrs to find their timing & rhythm in front of a rowdy crowd in Morgantown? 2. Kansas at Home - Unlike in 2022 when KU didnt play anyone decent before they played WVU so they didnt have to show their real offense. However this season, KU faces off against a decent Illinois team before they travel to Morgantown, which should be enough to put enough of their new Grimes offense on film for better gameplanning. 3. WVU gets a Bye Week before playing at OkieSt. However, OkieSt also has a couple tough matchups in a row. First playing Utah, then travels to KState the week prior to hosting WVU. This will likely be a later televised game, giving them less time to recover & prepare for a well rested + prepared WVU team. 4. KState at Home. This is KState's second road game in a road. Traveling to an improved Colorado before then traveling to Morgantown. Historically, data shows teams usually perform below their seasonal averages if they have 2 road games in a row, compounded when that team travels east. The narrative of this game will surely be Green vs Johnson, with Johnson getting most of the media buzz this offseason, and Greene not being mentioned much. 5. IowaSt at Home. 6. UCF at Home. This is also UCF's second road game in a row. Traveling to AriSt the week prior to traveling North to Morgantown in late Nov. A hot weather team, playing in a cold weather game on the road. @ Arizona & @ TexasTech are the two tougher games where there is no scheduling detail advantage for WVU. If.... IF WVU remains healthy, with as much talent, skillsets, & experience they have returning this season, I think they have a shot to win 10-11 games in the regular season and be in serious contention to playing in Dallas and/or CFP. If WVU manages to upset PSU, and if PSU continues to have a good season, there could be a path where WVU misses the BIG12 title game, but makes the CFP as a 11 or 12 seed. Obviously prefer to win the BIG12 and get the bye, but parity is real and not much difference between the top 6-8 teams. With everything WVU has returning over the next several years, as long as Brown & staff can do ok in the portal and fill spots where needed here and there, 24,25,26 seasons could all be >= 9 win seasons with 24 & 26 seasons maybe >= 10. Another year of quality results should also help Brown & staff in recruiting too, so hopefully a 2-3 steps forward 1 step back type of growth. We'll see...

Who cares about Franklin at Vandy. That’s the only time he could ever beat a team better than him. He has an absolute garbage record against top 25 teams that goes far beyond Ohio State and Michigan. He does a good job of beating unranked teams. Yay! Elko is a good coach. He wins more with less and now has more. Dumbo Fisher wasn’t a good coach. Your numbers are flawed. You shouldn’t include covid years where some teams played far fewer games. It’s debatable Va Tech will win a lot more. Nebraska should win a lot more, but they’re no shoe in for 9 or more. They might average 7. A&M will rise more than Auburn, who will rise more than Tennessee. There are only so many SEC wins to go around. In this group, only A&M might be 10 a year.

VT got bad in getting players in virginia based on Justin Fuente because he demonized relationships in the state. He started prioritizing targeting other states over his own state. That made so many coaches mad in the state. VT was still great until 2012. 2012 was when it tailed off. That was due to Frank not adjusting to the changing landscape of the game.
