Yes, good advice. I had three internships - two non-credit, one for-credit. The school had postings from the companies for the first two. Unfortunately, they sucked and were a waste of time. But my for-credit internship was a great experience and I was hired after I completed it.

I was depressed and bullied in college, I looked around and saw not a single kid helping the lower classmen. Assignments that require teamwork was being done by one person. They showed no love or respect for the teachers. One day the teacher came to school when her boyfriend broke up with her. She was angry at everyone, and I wanted to tell her that I love her as a teacher. I did not because I was introvert and it was kind of scary to do so. But the whole class just complained to the principal about her attitude. I stopped caring about school after that and tried to build friendships. In my opinion, school has no heart or soul just mindless slaves caring only about grades.

Who is telling college graduates they will get their dream job straight out of college?!? I wish colleges would do a better job in teaching students about applying for jobs, building a resume, doing mock interviews, etc. Don't blow off job fairs. Talk to professors about interning/job opportunities to get experience, and use them to network. In college I volunteered at a lab for 2 years, worked at the same lab for two summers in a row, and then was offered a permanent position there upon graduation. It's a tough balance between enjoying college and planning for your future, but remember why you are going to college and use those 4 years productively.
@NicksHEAT1995
@NicksHEAT1995 4 дня назад
Job fairs suck and are hugely uncomfortable, plus you're competing with likely better candidates at said "job fairs." Waste of time unless you're either lucky or just can portray yourself as the one they should pick. I ain't competing with nobody. People should compete with themselves, if anything. If an employer is gonna hire you they will. If they're not then they won't.

I’m 41 years old with a B.A. in English, and I can tell you firsthand I learned this hard truth 15 years ago. Graduated college in 2006 and could not find any job aside from hospitality and waitressing. Did that for a couple years while I tried to figure out what I really wanted to do, finally ended up getting some entry level crappy admin job at age 26 in an office and at that point was just happy to have a M-F work schedule with holidays and weekends off. After a couple years of that crappy low pay job I was able to get a better job once I had some office experience, but yeah really difficult to get your foot in the door. Thing is it’s been this way for a long while but I think it’s only now getting more attention because of social media…which barely existed when I graduated college. Now people are sharing their stories on TikTok and it’s garnering more attention, but I will tell you this is nothing new. A college degree does not guarantee you a well-paying job.

Over the next 30 years, my wife and I lived within our means, scrimped, saved and invested our excess cash. We also paid off our mortgage and bills. I retired less than two years ago. Four days before I graduated from High School. I planned my whole life, I'm 60 and I can say my plan worked wonders. First off I didn't go to college. I wasn't going to jump into that rabbit hole and takes me in my late 30's or longer to get out from that debt. I just went directly into the workforce. Started as a grunt, and work myself starting as a apprentice to a skills trade. My dad always said you only need two things in life a skills trade and know how to hustle. I learned how to hustle at an age of 13. Started my apprenticeship with the help of my boss. Worked myself to a journeyman and got reasonable pay raises. So start drawing weekly paychecks on day one and learning the skills and getting pay at the same time. This made more sense to me. I now own my home out right and been out of debt forever. Life been good to me and very happy on the route to success and where I stand today.

The problem is that people think a degree is enough, when jobs say they want experience they mean it! No one tells you that you need to get internships and work throughout college to gain that experience. It’s sad a lot of people are falling into this trap, if anyone is still in college it’s not too late IMMEDIATELY look for summer internships and reach out to any connections you might have! This is a NECESSITY, it doesn’t matter if you got a business degree or an engineering degree YOU NEED WORKING EXPERIENCE!!! (Also a good degree helps, don’t get a useless degree that you will never find a job in, like fine arts or humanities)

It depends on what your degree is honestly. If you studied nursing, accounting or Law you're probably okay. But if you just have a degree in business management or just a general degree in something where you might not need one to do a certain job you may get looked over if you don't have any experience. Many times even if you do have experience it doesn't matter as well because plenty of employees move up in companies by being promoted and are just not hired off the street. If I could go back in time I definitely would have gone to trade school though instead of getting a degree.

I graduated with a marketing degree I took a job in a local statefarm office where I was making $28k plus commission a year. Babyyyyy the commission was PENNIES do you hear me? But I gained a lot of skills while there and moved into a different sales position where I was making $18 a hour with OT and commission. Sooooo much better! During the busiest season of the year I was clearing $4k to $6k in commission plus OT and it was a little more an hour. I was able to move out on my own and save up for a down payment on my first home. Now I’m in a new position where I’m making $45k a year plus commission. On a bad month I’m making $2k commission on a good month $14k commission. I finally can afford the life I want to live 😊

College hasn’t failed anyone on the contrary it provided a valuable product to people which is a education a pathway towards a profession. The real issue is that the system has turned predatory on capitalizing on the dreams of people. Employers now expect individuals to train themselves by placing the burden on colleges which hence are ill equipped to do so. It is simply not possible without a coordinated cooperative between school and industry. Businesses want people to be desperate to lower wages and have low hanging fruit to pick on due to desperation on a low limited amount of jobs the industry can provide.

Just to realize that only a handful of those people were producing any meaningful for the company; or they all roughly had the same skill set. So why pay ten people who are all doing the same thing than pay one or two, three people? Especially in tech. There’s probably a “Star player” at every company and that’s who they will keep. I'm not sure why people with degrees think they're "better than" or "more deserving" of a job vs. someone without one! Folks are really ignorant! Especially because there's people with disabilities that get looked over and discriminated against! Plus, everyone doesn't have the aptitude for school! Even with trade school. Trade school takes a physical toll on your health. I have SEVERE disabilities both physically and mentally! I literally CAN'T work! I shouldn't have to! I need money, NOT work! There's people in the comments talking about "its who you know, not what you know" and that's a huge problem! Everyone doesn't have friends, everyone doesn't have family! You shouldn't need to know anyone! You shouldn't need "references!" Like, how mentally inept do you have to be to not come up with an original thought of your own that you have to piggyback off someone else's? Instead of giving that person a chance, you'd rather listen to a bunch of he say/she say BS about the person in question! And 9x/10, its not the person that's the problem, its those talking BS ABOUT said person in question! Anyway, just because a person has a degree, it doesn't make them "better than" anyone and it doesn't make them "deserving" of a job vs. someone without one! I don't have a degree or trade. The way you get experience is once you decide what you want to be . You get a job or volunteer at the bottom of a company that will give you the experience you need even if its a few hrs a week. Instead of borrowing questionable free money and paying 200,000 for a job that pays 50k a yr. With top of 80k. The other road go into a trade related to the profession you want . The advantage is you making $$ and creat a network for post grad. Opportunities. If your a man quit sniveling over mistakes "you" made. Your not a victem. Think out of the Box. That's what your Daddy should have told you.

Sixty years ago most of the jobs that you need a college degree to get didn't need a college degree to obtain. Are we saying that young people today are more stupid so they need more training to do the same work people used to do without a degree.

Accounting degree is worth it, they are hiring and you can make 100k in a couple of years so idk why they made fun of it in this video.

This is a simple equation. If your degree isn't STEM then you wasted your money. If you can't do STEM then go to CC, no harm in that. Advanced degrees are useless and very debt-oriented plus you are losing out to people several years younger than you when you get out. There are folks in Gen Z and even Gen A that are total go-getters that would rather die than live at home with their parents. They're doubling/tripling up in apartments on their own, making it. They are out there. The people in these videos are not the whole generation thank goodness. There are some serious players out there that are young. These just aint it!

I comment here because you asked for this. Your complaint about what your teacher said is understandable, but it causes me to believe you may be a bit soft. I was in the army before I went to get my degree. When you're late in the army, much worse things happen than someone saying words. As an Iraq war veteran, I approached college with enthusiasm because it represented an opportunity to do non-life threatening work. I learned to love math because no one was trying to kill me while doing difficult calculus homework at 2 am. And because I did engineering / tech related education, I had a job waiting for me at graduation. I remember being in class at age 25 or 26 and seeing students walk in late. My internal monologue was telling me to rage at those kids for being late. But, I had to remember that my military experiences don't really have a place amongst American civilians. They can't handle the extreme circumstances I dealt with on a day-to-day basis. So I kept my mouth shut in regards to late students I saw. To reiterate, i commented because you asked for perspective.
