College World Series Finals Predictions: Tennessee vs. Texas A&M

Tennessee and Texas A&M face off in the College World Series final, and Chris Lee, Graham Doty and Alfred Ezman break it all down with their preview and predictions. Topics include:
- The Vols and the Aggies look like the country’s two best teams.
- Tennessee’s lineup did historic things, and had five members (Christian Moore, Kavares Tears, Billy Amick, Blake Burke and Dylan Dreiling) in the 20-home-run club.
- But the Vols have hitting depth off the bench, too, with Dalton Bargo and a cast of others giving coach Tony Vitello some mix-and-match options.
- Tennessee’s starting pitching comes in on a tear, with Drew Beam’s stuff ticking up a notch in Omaha and Zander Sechrist having shown rock-solid consistency of late.
- The Vols' bullpen of AJ Causey, Nate Snead, Kirby Connell, Dylan Loy, Marcus Phillips, Andrew Behnke and JJ Garcia has also been elite.
- The Aggies have battled season-ending injuries to All-American Braden Montgomery and bullpen ace-turned-starter Shane Sdao, and in spite of that, have gone unbeaten in the NCAA tournament.
- However, an injury to outfielder Jace LaViolette has the Aggies further hobbled, even though LaViolette played through a hamstring injury on Wednesday.
- Texas A&M starting pitchers Justin Lamkin and Ryan Prager have been at the top of their games in Omaha.
- The Aggie bullpen, led by Evan Ashenbeck, Chris Cortez, Josh Stewart, Brock Peery and Brad Rudis is one of the country’s best.

Yep thanks for the data and facts. Versus being a stupid, uninformed fan (like some other posters). These are for sure the 2 best teams in all of college. It is the exact matchup I expected once CWS teams were announced. Gonna come down to who makes the least mistakes.

The bulk of those stats happened with a fully healthy roster for A&M though. Especially the loss of Montgomery at the plate is huge.

I think most people think it’s close lol. Tennessee definitely has an edge in stats, but it’s close. I think most people would say it’s a Tennessee lean bc they got a day more of rest for all of their pitchers

Great video and good breakdown on both sides. As an Aggie, I’m pulling for my team. Hopefully our pitching can stifle that power house that is the Tennessee offense. Good pitching beats good hitting, but Tennessee is the outlier cause they hit everything. Best of luck Vols! Gig’em!

Texas A&M pitching propped up by bad offenses in the postseason. Batting averages ranks: Texas 99th, Kentucky 121st, Oregon 135th, Florida 199th. Tennessee pitching on the other hand has faced these offenses : Florida St 9th, UNC 37th, Evansville 51st, Indiana 65th, Sourhern Miss 69th

Kent has effectively replaced the bat of Montgomery in a month long slump by the numbers. If the series goes 3 obviously the Vols have a starting pitching depth. The grit and internal motivation factor goes to A&M. Great all 3 of you can be wrong.

Sir I believe that being down 3 in the bottom of the 9th and walking it off is the very embodiment of grit. And if you don’t think 3 different dudes running wide open into the wall and making the catch isn’t internal motivation then idk what you’re watching. I believe both teams are motivated and both have grit.

Vols already played our toughest test. FSU bats when Arnold starts for them is the scariest opponent in the nation for us by far. Aggie's bats won't be able to keep up consistently enough unless our bullpen chokes or something. Vols are playing for potential GOAT status as well.

UT's lineup = absolute mashers. That said, the 1st game always worries me. The way Tony V has managed the staff in game 1s has worked, but it's put us in a hole a few times this season...almost burned us badly v fsu.

We are plenty good enough to tie or break the homerun record still. It won't be easy again Aggie's pitching but we most certainly do have the ability to if pull enough hanging breaking and fastballs. Left and right field are no problem to hit it out on that field.

I don't see A&M matching TN in the hitting, best they can do is hope for a game where they can match TN's pitching. There was a reason TN won the only matchup between the two teams this year and pretty much the hitting. I would have taken TN for the series even before the A&M injuries. It's a good team but there is a difference between being good at walks and hitting the ball and scoring runs. A&M isn't an FSU or TN hitting and won their games by good defense and solid, not elite pitching. Should be a great matchup but if TN pitches well, I think for A&M to win, the have to score at least 8 runs and that's hard to do against the team with the best defensive points per game, TN at 2.9 pp/game.

You should do urself a favor and look at the stats posted above. These teams are almost perfectly evenly matched up. It is anyones game. Cant argue that TN is better, just like I cant argue A&M is better.

@@devisedbydev2764 Oh, do tell me the Div 1 records A&M has vs what TN does? lol. A&M is a good team but elite even but even with TN? Nope. At least not according to stats and records. And your right, anything can happen in Omaha, but ask me why Vegas does not see A&M winning it all? For the same reasons I just gave. But they could. I can argue TN is better because you are your record and your stats. Those are just facts. But A&M is good enough to upset TN, beat TN sure. It's just not very likely considering TN has only lost one series this entire season and that was the first series of the SEC season.

@@devisedbydev2764Thank you, no hate on him but his view on A&Ms offense and being good at walks is horrible if you know anything about baseball, That’s why they’re so good. They take walks and get to your bullpen quickly which puts a lot of pressure on the bullpen and coaches as well because of how well we hit relief pitchers and also why it’s so hard to beat them in a series or playoffs because teams don’t have enough pitching to keep up. Gonna be a crazy matchup lmao

@@devisedbydev2764 TN is just as good if not better at pitching and definitely better on offense. So, it may come down to who makes the fewest mistakes on D and who can also hit better and best out of three against TN, out-hitting TN best ouf of three, well, no one's done that. TN also allows the fewest points against them, per game. 2.9. If A&M wins the series, they deserve and well earned. But all of baseball thinks TN is the better team. But any team in the top 5 has a chance against a #1 seed, best stat team in baseball.

@masoncrowell8972 Vol hitters are very patient and take plenty of walks as well. If A&M's arms get rattled it's going to be a long day for you. I don't think these teams are as even as you act and Aggies played on the weaker side of the bracket and are missing some of their offensive weapons. Vols got this. If we were to lose, we'd have no one to blame but ourselves.

I think there is a good chance that A&M could take game 1 bc of the Vols not having a true day one starter with Russell out. But if Beam and Sechrist both pitch like they have been in games 2 and 3 this CWS, I don’t think A&M will have the offense to keep up, especially with their injuries, so I’m gunna take TN 2-1. With that said, I am a little biased. GBO!!

FSU scared me way more than Aggies do. We played FSU's ace and still put up 6 runs against him. Aggies have no one on their staff that's better than Arnold imo but their entire bullpen is solid. I just think Aggies will be forced to out hit ys despite their pitching. Vols bats should takeover.

Imo, Burns gained nothing from leaving TN. And what did he leave for, money? He could have worked his way into weekend starter and maybe beaten out Beam for Saturday night starter. He did well at Wake this past year but it takes a team to get to and win in Omaha. He could have been on a national champion team potentially or even a runner-up. Looks great on a resume.

@@jeffwright5768 Chase went chasing cash at Wake Forest, pre-season number one team in some polls. Pitched well but Wake got bounced early. Thought Wake Forest was in good shape for a title run. I hope he's watching TN vs A&M in the finals at home, wondering, "what if I stayed" at TN and could have been pitching in this, "National Title Series"? I don't know what he thought he could lean at Wake that he couldn't at TN. TN ACC champs as well as SEC! lol

Zander is my favorite Tennessee pitcher. He's been absolutely clutch this entire post season. He us a weapon for us when he's on. I just hope we don't try and pitch Beam for 6 innings again because he's usually cooked after 4. We don't need to allow them any free runs and that's my only complaint about Tony V is he has the tendency of leaving the starting pitcher, especially Beam in for ine inning too long. Pull him after four or maybe five if he's really hot that day to be safe imo.

A&M wins because of three reasons: (1) the curse of the #1 seed, (2) SEC West streak winning the national championship, and (3) good pitching beats good hitting. Fortunately for everyone else, the SEC West goes away after this year.
