Some great photos of South #Wales #Collieries and #Coalmines, put together as a slideshow with music by Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata. I have previous put together this slideshow but I have spent a little more time correcting the photo sizes to improve the quality of the slideshow.

Thank you for those moments of deep nostalgia. It was something that we thought was always there, but now, gone forever, and the culture that has disappeared.

Brilliant stuff! Does anyone remember Aberpergwm colliery in the Neath Valley where the trams passed over the road on a raised track? (i.e. the old road before they built the Glynneath by-pass?)

I remember it well, on our way to the Gower for a day at the seaside. Such memories.

Maerdy Colliery is really Deep Navigation Colliery in Trelewis/Treharris the reason as I know is because I live there and my grandfather worked there and another thing about how I know is that to the left of the frame there is a white line going across the fields on the hill, that is the Trelewis Primary School and in the middle right is the beechcroft estate where those tall and dark trees are. Taff Merthyr Colliery now belongs to Rock Uk, a climbing centre exhibition on the road between Trelewis and Bedlinog

It's a shame Bedwas and Llanbradach were left out and a lot of others. Still a good record for people who have never seen before.

These were the only photos that were on my dad's computer after he passed, I just wanted to make use of them so knocked up that slideshow.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful collection of photographs depicting a vanished world. The images bring back sweet memories as I visited South Wales several times and took many photographs especially in 1990 . You might enjoy my photographs at: hfinster.de/StahlArt2/archive-SouthWales-en.html My visit was absolutely wonderful as the staff and management of the NCB were extremely helpful and cooperative. I had to rely on public transport and one of the bus drivers even made a detour to one of the abandoned collieries - it was the place where he had worked for 30 years before the closure. I wish I could still visit all the beautiful collieries.

I'm not sure to be honest, these photos were on my dads PC before he died so I'm relying on his information. Please let me know if you think its incorrect and I will blur out the text. Cheers!
