I've lived in East Plano for 35 years. I can remember going into this mall with my parents as a child during Christmas time and it was so magical at night with the Christmas lights. Makes me sad that this and much of East Plano seems to be dying.

Used to go there with my kids in the 80s. Lived a half mile away. Great mall. Kids are now 38 & 40.

Thank you for this video. It has been years, and I just an hour or so ago found out my childhood mall had closed and since been demolished. I had no idea, it had been a long time. Thank you for this video. I got to see it again. I remember all the water fixtures and such. It feels like a dream when thinking back.

i remember i loved this location of the forever 21. it was such a big store with great variety of clothing. Other favorite stores were limited too, icing, claires, Victoria's Secret, disney store, bath and body works.

This was my mall growing up! I remember when the Macy's was Foley's. The entrances used to have animals and I always remember a friend's mom saying "Okay, I'll pick you up at the squirrel exit in 3 hours." So sad to see it so empty. It was poppin' in the late 90s/early 2000s.

As soon as they got rid of the water fountains and waterways, the mall immediately went down hill. This used to be a good mall and we liked it better than at the time better than the Galleria and Prestonwood. Valley View was already dead by the time Collin Creek mall opened. My last visit I was the only one there besides the cleaning person and security.

1991 Gadzooks for clothing, skateboards and Swatch Watches. Sbarro Pizza and Arby’s in the food court. Loved it when they had the 5 roast beef sandwiches for $5. I always came in through the Sears entrance. Later on I’d stop in at Fast Forward for Skate Decks. Over time I had less and less need to go there for anything due to stores I’d frequent, not sticking around.

Very nice retrospective...I like how you contrasted the mall in its heyday with the way it is now!

Kathryn Hilliard Thank you and thanks for watching, it’s also a good way to see how with progression... things get blander and less unique.. we live in such a cookie cutter copy cat world of architecture this day in age.. shame to see it disappearing..

I use to live across the street from this mall, and During Christmas cars would have to park on the grass due to the lack of parking...

Malls just aren’t as popular anymore!! I really like the new outdoor concept, open air malls like they have in bigger cities, like Dallas and San Antonio. Yay...Lubbock FINALLY got an open-air concept Mall a few years ago!!!

Awe...the good old 80’s!! I grew up in Lubbock about 6 hours from Dallas. We have a new outdoor Mall, but our good ole South Plains Mall has been modernized and is still pretty busy.

Makes me want to know why malls in America are dying off, when they're still pretty popular in other countries like Australia and New Zealand

Loved that mall. Bought my super Nintendo at babages. Worked at a jewelry store there in the mid-90s. Such fond memories.

Why does no one remember 90's Plano as the black tar heroin capitol of the world? It's so weird the Frulatti was the last restaurant left in the food court. I spent all my teenager years at this place. It was crowded shoulder to shoulder on the weekends. That Macy's was originally Sanger Harris. The outside of them had really cool murals.

My business partner and I had our first retail cart there in 1998. We did good business. However, we were "Specialty Retail" or, we had a cart. Carts in malls are in short, FOUND MONEY. First we were in the Sears wing. Then we were moved to the Foley's wing. We found out that one of the retail shops like our cart and wanted us in front of their high end woman's business. We were glad we did and we got along great with them. But sadly, the Specialty Retail manager we had worked with was transferred and a short guy with a BIG ATTITUDE took over. Seems he had worked for the mall and decided that he would start his own business. He FAILED. Then came back. Specialty Retail management falls into only two categories. A. Those who you will literally take a bullet for. B. Those who if they caught on fire, you would not even urinate on to help put out the fire. But the Dot Com boom was going strong. The US economy was going strong after the end of the Cold War. We learned a lot being in that mall. Dealing with mall management was the biggest lesson. The lesson I did take away from being there is that Mall Management is into PROPERTY MANAGEMENT. NOT THE RETAIL BUSINESS. But even when we weren't even open yet, the Mall Management tried to tell us how to run our business. My partner had enough one day and point blank asked the manager, "If you are going to run our business what do you need us for?" The mall manager looked like a deer in the headlights. They had nothing to say and that was that. After being the brunt of their failures, like losing rent checks we had given them, to name just one, we moved out on New Years Eve. Didn't go into that mall for more than two year and did so only at Xmas time. We were walking on the second floor checking out the shop and were in the Foley's end. I saw where our cart had been and it was well lit with colorful times on it. Some how I joked with my partner that it looked like a Tupper war cart... We both laughed. And when we got closer, IT WAS A TUPPER WARE CART! WE WERE DUMBFOUNDED. We knew the owner of the shop would never put up with that so we made a bee line to the shopt. We walked in and it was old home week. That is when we found out the owner had died in a car wreck. He didn't put up with any of the malls BS. Even to the point where he told his manger to pull the gate down and start packing. Well mall management came over to STRAIGHEN THEM OUT. And that is when the manager told him, WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR BS AND WE ARE LEAVING! I mean they were packing boxes. Next thing you know they got the owner on the phone and he was on the other line with his lawyer. About an hour later the owner called back and told the manager to expect the manager and he'd better be apologizing. IF NOT, WE ARE GONE! The manager came by apologized and they reopened. But with him now dead his wife sold out to a new group and pension off the manager. That is why the Tupper Ware cart was there. I think we went back two times after that. But believe it or not, we did work with some good people who managed the shops. Funny thing, the security guards did not like the mall managers as well.

A TRICK I LEARNED ABOUT DEALING WITH CHIC-FIL-A WHILE WE HAD A CART AT THIS MALL. We were down on the Sear's end. The guy who manager the Florsheim Shoe store was next to us. We talked about how Chick-Fil-A didn't give mall employees a discount but GOD THOSE CHICK-FIL-A EMPLOYEES SURE AS H*LL MADE SURE THEY GOT THEIRS! He told me what to do. He said, go up there and buy a large drink. Don't throw the cup away. Keep it in your cart or stick it in the back of our shop. You can put it with ours. You see, they have FREE REFILS! So I said, "That is why I see you walking to the food court with the cup all the time." And I did that afterwards. I told my business partner about it and those who worked for us. AND I NEVER FORGOT THAT.

Haha this is sad. 10 yrs ago, this place wasn’t even that bad.. now I live over by it and come to the jcpennys all the time.. it’s gonna suck driving somewhere else, I remember when there was still a godivas there..people say stonebriar is what killed this place but I disagree.. stonebriar opened almost 20 years ago and this mall wasn’t all that bad 10 years ago
