Colm graduated from uni as a composer of classical type music. He has several instrumental pieces that he wrote and recorded for the live play Critical Role (Welcome to Taldori). When Covid shut everything down and the sea shanty craze started he began to sing. His bass was always stellar but his tenor needed some work which he has worked on it and has become absolutely amazing. He lives in a rural section of Ireland that it often takes him 6 hours to upload a video. So dedication.

Norse is the basis for many north central European languages such as Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Icelandic, Faroe, and to some extent English (we use a lot of the grammar rules). Many families from Scotland and Ireland including mine have Norse roots. Red hair is a genetic marker for Scandinavian roots as is grey eyes. I have both....

After watching all your videos I noticed you have done one meatloaf song... but not his most famous "Paradise by the dashboard light". Please please do this one. And as a side note I have a very eclectic eccentric band to introduce you to. I won't tell you anything about it other than it is norse and you might want to look up skaldic poetry before going in so you are a little prepared. i really hope you like it, but either way, I invite you to check out Heilung (band name) - LIFA - Krigsgaldr (album and song)

As a fan of D&D livestream Critical Role, I will say this: Colm McGuniess is a master musician. Love his stuff! By the way, Maggie, you need to check out a song called "Valhalla Calling -- Trio Version". This song has Miracle of Sound, Peyton Parrish, and a singer called "ThatBassVoice." The singer ThatBassVoice is named Eric, and from what I can find, he has a 10-octave range, and is the lowest voice I've ever heard. If what I've found is true, he would have the largest range of any vocalist in the world, as well as the deepest bass voice in the world. Lastly, Maggie, "Norse" is synonymous with "Viking" -- of which I am a descendent. I am both Irish and Viking, and I can say, this is exactly what I would expect from someone who would live the old Norse, the old Viking, lifestyle.

Probably been said already (as I am super late to the party) but the similarity to Mongolian throat singing is to be expected as the ancient Norse culture was also a predominantly oral culture when it came to story telling, both myth and history so the use of vocal effects would have been the norm (it’s like typing in ALL CAPS in the digital age to get a message across). 😊

This isn't actually norse, the old norse language died a long time ago, the closest we have is the current version of icelandic, which is what he's singing here. all we have of norse is a few small pieces of writing, but it's so little we don't actually know exactly how they sound
