@@Wonderliv Thanks, I was wondering the time line because I noticed the locals were not wearing masks, so this was before the 1st lockdown in March. Colombo has seen much change in the last 15 yrs,and we hope it will continue to prosper with the completion of big hotel and business projects including The Colombo Port City.

We must stop bringing shitty auto rickshaws (three wheelers) into sri lanka. That vehicle is really a headache on our roads. Government must try to introduce a better alternative vehicle for auto rickshaws. That dumb vehicle make sri lankan youth uselss.

And there is Dhaka which is completely opposite of Colombo. Over crowded, traffic with constant honking for no reason and city is not clean as well.

Buddha himself was against image worship. He requested his followers to only follow his doctrine. Unfortunately, 3 centuries later, Emperor Ashoka of India got the first ever commissioned statue. Ever since Buddha statues have proliferated throughout the world. I believe in SL it has become a common object in every corner of street, Parks and even public spaces. It is truly disrespectful. SL government should regulate the use of it.

Hi Mahinda, I’m Sri Lankan too. But in the past 20 years the Buddha statue are placed in public areas where passes by Don’t pay any respect. They just go on about their business. Buddha statues are exposed to dust, idle confabulation and disrespectful behaviour most of these are inadvertent.

Buddhist has very much influence with the cultures and tradition of India. I read that there are two main sects of buddhist , one with the statues/idols which is prevalent in the Indian subcontinent and one without the statues in East Asian and south east asian countries.

@@iquote6284 All sects/schools of Buddhism use statues of the Buddha. The form of Buddhism practiced in Sri Lanka is the same form practiced in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos). This form is called Theravada Buddhism.
