Just finished reading Robert Coram's book and I'm trying to find anything I can about John Boyd. Glad to have found this video. I wish there were more recordings of him available.

The Coram book is incredible, but there is nothing like listening to Boyd directly. There are a few more videos floating around. I am looking to consolidate them at some point soon(ish).

An amazing non-desk-jockey intellectual of our time that personally tested his theories in the most challenging military situations. If only we had more heroes in our world today. Nelson Mendela, Dr, MLK, etc. etc. Put their lives on the line and then tried to teach how it is done.

I have to agree with him totally. I got so tired of the "useful idiots" when I was in the Army.

I think there is a typo in the Captions... isn't it the F-16 he is talking about? I know it was hard to hear, but according to other sources, I believe him to be the father of the F-16.

I do believe he is the Father of both, or maybe only the Stepfather of the FX. The FX was the program that was "saved" from the F-111 and eventually became the F-15. It is my understanding that he himself considered the F-15 a failure for many reasons (one of them being the total weight). The YF-16 Program was his clean sheet design from scratch and the light, highly-maneuverable aircraft that he always wanted. Hope this helps.

He spends a LOT of time explaining how screwed up other peoples' thinking and approaches to problems are.

He listened and retained those for perhaps a future snowmobile, but rapid transitions require OODA use of conditional ones at certain times. He is dynamically proactive. Like the tennis player waiting for the serve, he is already moving (shifting feet) when the serve comes. Bureaucracies are necessary in our complicated world, but too much "be" is involved and it is inefficient. Doers like Boyd and other dynamic thinker/doers have certainly been more efficient. Leaders rise by default in times of decisive engagement (usually in war), but less in peacetime. Leaders without rank still lead, even in peacetime. Boyd would call them doers. I agree.
