I love the floors, the wayne's coat, and the choice of neutral colors! Although I think it did need some pop of color or maybe a really nice wallpaper in one room, something to make things pop out more and really make the house unique. But overall it looks so sophisticated and you did a great job!

Sure, paint is all Benjamin Moore (we used Natura). In order of appearance: Living room/stairs/hallway: Galveston Gray (really like this one, a beautiful neutral but not bland. It's gray with some warmth) Dining room/kitchen: Smokestack Gray Master bedroom: Van Courtland Blue Tub bathroom: Soft Chinchilla Nursery: Grege Avenue Small bedroom: Ozark Shadows Shower bathroom & Sun room: Manchester Tan (a nice light beige, but different enough from white that you get contrast) Family room: Greenbrier Beige (not our fave, a bit too green) If we could do it over again, we'd pick about half as many colors though for simplicity's sake!
I think you needed another color to bring warmth into a few areas. In combination with the lack of personal items, it felt more than a little cold, although beautifully done.

+James Showe Sorry James, somehow missed this-- thanks for the comment! The wainscot in the bathrooms is PVC panels from Home Depot. The shadow boxes throughout the rest of downstairs and hall are custom done with trim.
We just purchased our first home (1918 colonial) that needs to be fully renovated. Your video was extremely helpful and has given us great ideas for our home. May I ask if you kept the original hardwood floors and had them refinished, or did you replace them? Also, were there any websites or online stores that you found useful during your research? We had the original floors refinished, plus extended the wood a few places it was not before, e.g. kitchen (side note, we've had no problems with wood in there-- just need to get spills wiped up quickly, but we would do that anyway!). Houzz is great for ideas and we used Pintrest so we could both save ideas we found (see our boards here: www.pinterest.com/whitney05012010/). Sources we used a lot were HomeDecorators, Wayfair, RestorationHardware, LightingDirect, FaucetWarehouse, StevesBlinds, RugsUSA, HomeDepot, and of course Amazon. Be sure to sign up for Ebates as well, we saved hundreds during the reno since 1-6% off purchases can add up! Also try buying gift cards at a discount (GiftCardGranny.com is a good aggregator) to save another 5-10% depending on the store.
Wow thank you for all the info! The original wood floors in our house are still in good condition, so we're thinking of having them refinished as well. What was the stain that you used for the floors? We love the color!
I'm planning a renovation nearby. Could you tell me who you used for a contractor, designer, etc? Also, and I know this is gauche, but we are budgeting and would love to know ballbark how much such a reno costs. we close in a month on a similar colonial and are fretting. very lovely home!
Our contractor was John Kawczak with Elegant Home Improvement. We did all the design work ourselves after a lot of research (this was our first reno). Here are the high level costs with labor broken out by item/room as best I could: Kitchen: $12K cabinets, $3500 quartzite counters, $1K fixtures/hardware, $17K labor (incl flush header) Bathrooms (2): $3500-4500 materials each, $11K labor each Powder room: $1K materials, $3K labor Painting entire house: $1K materials, $6K labor Refinish wood floors: $5K labor/material Partition room + create laundry: $5K labor Molding, new doors: $3K material, $4K labor Ceiling lighting & electrical: $3K material, $4K labor

I Want to talk with somebody of this company we bought a house in Bergen Nj one word (it is small ) I’m kinda regretting this decision we made because several motives ...our street door leads right to the kitchen and right into the boiler room!!! That go Next is a creepy small bathroom and then a living room than has potential but small a second floor with only 1 big bedroom and 2 closet size rooms that the past owners called them bedrooms... I feel very bad because I made a huge mistake by buying the house but I would like to see if you guys can come a visit us and see what can be done for a little family thank you very much for your answer
Planning/approvals took ~2 wks, renovation itself ~2.5 months. However, we had some days without work in there and/or partial crews, so would think it could be done in as little as 6-8 wks.
