COLOR CHANGING EXPERIMENT | BUTTERFLY PEA FLOWER AS A NATURAL pH INDICATOR | ACID-BASE INIDCATOR |
Butterfly pea flower juice can be used to test the pH of common household chemicals. It contains a natural pH indicator that changes colors according to the acidity of the solution.
Butterfly pea flower has Anthocyanin. Anthocyanin is a natural pH indicator.
will change their color depending upon the pH of their environment. The anthocyanin turns red-pink in acids (pH 1-6), reddish-purple in neutral solutions (pH 7) and bluish-green in alkaline or basic solutions (pH 8-14).
In this experiment, the butterfly pea flower juice turned red/pink when mix with something acidic and turned green when mix with something basic.
