This is so much helpful. I never knew you could do that with color key. usually, I drop a plethora of different effects on a single layer to get this done. What you did made things a lot easier. Thank you!

hey man, added this to my tutorial playlist! question: I have just uploaded a video with leave color (Blue) and it worked ok, you can see some shadows on the hair and neck of the guitar. what would you recommend I do before taking the same shot with same guitar but using a yellow shirt instead? I tried this in the past but the yellow does NOT work due to guitar being brown and human skin colors. I'm using this technique to edit scenes from Color out of Space so that only the color is visible and everything else is in black and white to make it a bit like the German 2012 version.

Nice video! Is it possible to do more than just isolating a color? For example, can I apply effects to only a certain color?

Yes once you have isolated a color you can use one of the keying tools like extract, key light etc… to remove the black part of the image so you left with just the color. Once you have the color section by itself you can apply along effects you like

So basically there is no way to select a color, keep it while making the rest transparent, which is actual masking. After a decade+ of development this tool is not available in after effects??? omfg.

There is no dedicated tool but you could do this in a few steps using other tools. Try using extract after the color isolation to remove BW. Also the roto brush is prob the closest tool to do that. Hope that helps.
