Bro the moment I heard the new one I was like, this feels empty and toned down. This tone could work for new songs but color pulse feels like they stabbed it.
I think it’s because Pearl keeps blowing out her voice in this game.😅 She used it a LOT! In side order, she used it to blow up the spire AND blow up Overlorder, TWO times in a row in quick succession. She probably damaged her vocal chords after Side Order.😅
It's probably just a demo still. A lot of the new splatoon music that they tease sounds really flat but they end up changing when they're put in the game. However, if it's not a demo I won't be surprised since a lot of modern music is super overly compressed and too quiet
@@82licious It's supposed to be the final version. When they do the whole MV thing, it's supposed to be the final product. Furthermore, they never show unfinished idol things. This is a choice they made for some unknown reason
@@girlkisser200City Of Colors was still the same genre and kept most of its original instruments tho. It also fit with the Squid Sisters' discography. Iirc it was a new (IRL) composer so it made sense, you know? This doesn't feel like an OTH song. It's missing most instruments+pizzaz the original had. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the music and feels so out of place (even more than their Splat3 battle songs even though they were meant to be different). Even the vocals are compressed and lower quality. At least City Of Colors (2024) had Marie doing a nice harmony and felt like the characters had grown up since then. Color Pulse (2024) feels like Pearl and Marina are exhausted and doing the bare minimum
If you told me Color Pulse '24 was the old version and Color Pulse '17 was the new one, I'd 110% believe that. There was a comment on the official upload video that I agree with. "marina accidentally handed us the demo tape"
Well, technically Pearl is older than the Squid Sisters. Pearl is possibly 27 while the Squid Sisters are probably 24-25. But I get what you're saying.
There’s less bass. It feels less full because there’s literally half of the musical notes that don’t get hit because they don’t use the bass clef at all.

Their voices in the new one are off setting like they sound more human like than the squid like voices in splatoon . I think it just needs the correct tuning and it will sound great
I see so many people hating on the new one, and while i do prefer the old version, they are going for completely different feelings. Day 1 splatfest songs are meant to be more chill compared to day 2, and og color pulse was one of the most energetic splatfest songs. We still can listen to the original, but regardless of anyones feelings, the music has reason to feel the way it does
Finally someone who isnt hating on it! You get it man, plus this could easily be a demo too. Also, these type of songs tend to sound A LOT better in game, so it could be coming off as flat to some people since it literally is flat. It doesn't have the bass from the actual splatfests just yet.
Bruh, Anarchy Poisons exist, and City of Color is a direct improvement, this feels intentionally toned down version of current squid sisters instrumental direction.

If you ask me, I think the reason why Color Pulse lost some of its energy and why Pearl is singing a LOT lower than usual is because all the “Super Killer Wails” she performed in Side Order are finally taking their toll on her voice.😅 Remember how she said those things blow out her vocal cords in Octo Expansion? She needs to warm up for those, but Side Order made her do it right on the spot TWICE! I think they modified it so Pearlie can rest and recover from literally carrying us in Side Order. She damaged her voice.😅
@@LoTzzzzzzzI disagree with the fact that all of the Anarchy Poisons songs are chill, I mean they are a little bit, but Anarchy Poisons Bird Mix (Shiver) is the most chill out of all of them. Like, Snake Mix (Frye) and Boar Mix (Big Man) still have a small level of hype to them, in my opinion. And hype is what Color Pulse '24 lacks. Once again, just my opinion.

Even if you take a listen to Candy Coated Rocks and Tentacle to The Metal, there is a clear difference in vocal direction and I’m not just talking about the style of the song. Honestly We’re So Back has better vocal direction than Color Pulse 2024.
Yeah no, while I agree this song feels underwhelming, I gotta disagree with the "even for splatoon 3 standards" bit, while splatoon 3 doesn't have nearly as much of a focus on vocals as previous games did I think that the overall mixing has improved tenfold. So it kind of deserves the spotlight. Theres plenty of songs to compare, like now or never which is now better than ever, or calamari inkantation 3mix. While there's less highlight on the vocals, the foundations are much stronger overall.@@CocatGaming

The main issue I have with the new version is that pearl’s voice sounds more human than inkling. I guess it’s because the vocals are less edited. I really miss the vibe of the vocals being completely unrecognizable while the new version has more human-sounding vocals.
Y'all probably didn't know but Alice and Rina are 34 in 2024 right and in 17 they was 27 so a seven year difference so most likely their voices got deeper now that's why they sound like that
Both have their different charms. The biggest difference I can hear between the two of them is that in the 2024 version, they've made Pearl and Marina's voice slightly deeper, so they occupy a different part of the ear than they did in the original version, they toned down the high synth to bring out the bass and the lower synths much more and they slightly changed up the rhythm of the drums. The original version wants to get you on your feet and jump, while the new 24 version feels more like sitting back and nodding your head to the beat.
Okay another problem I have with this new version of Color Pulse, why did they decide to change some of the lyrics? They didn’t do that for City of Color 2023. Also why don’t Pearl and Marina get new models?
yeah! the squid sisters got new models for story mode AND for the plaza that better matches their original renders, it also just looks better with the newer style for splatoon 3
I agree with you with the lyric part. I don't understand it either. They could have either not changed it like with City of Color '23 or use the second verse they use when they sing Color Pulse live. Give something that's familiar to the fans!
it's been like that for a bit now, i'm not sure why she has some more color in her tentacles, but you can see it in the official side order renders (with their 3d models), her amiibo, and her model(s) in side order, but i don't think it's just all the splatfest colors, i think they wanted a bit more contrast in her hair color or something??
also i get that they're older, but isn't pearl's whole point to have a super high voice ? that she can use for her killer wail ? and that she's a high energy rapper ? it's probably bc frye has a super similar high voice... hate the fact they're nerfing them to make deep cut look better
I feel like they're doing this on purpose. They're probably gonna have an idol group splatfest sometime soon, and they though OTH was too good in splat 2 so they're nerfing them to make the others stand a chance.
I think the new version is way better with headphones, since it deepens the low chill vibe they are going for, like the inclusion of marina being more vocal in the background and adding more bass instruments ❤
For anyone feeling like the new one isnt as alive, there is actually a technical reason. First, there is an audible difference in the way they use their filter. The filter in question is a low pass filter which they use less frequently than they normally do, making it sound less aquatic. Now for the lore friendly reason, they have aged and this is a reprise with their newer experience with other music styles
and for the gameplay reason: since it'll play pre-half time, it's meant to start you out on the splatfest and We're So Back in turn is meant to REALLY hype you up
this is like to original color pulse what spicy calamari inkantation was to original calamari inkantation and i don't mean that in a good way the instrumentation in both feels so empty >_>
I really want to like the new version but even listening to it repeatedly I just can’t get on board, it sounds so dry. The old version is so punchy and hypes you up for the fest, whereas the new one feels like a school disco when I was 9 💀
yeah 2 sounds more energetic, but I think 3's sounds softer, almost like they've settled down from their youth days, and are just kinda chilling and making music
honesty was a bit taken aback with this new version-- i understood the chill approach of the fact that oth has aged (and so have the real voice actors) and that their voices have changed over time, but how come they sound more human than squid/octo-like? the squid sister's voices in splatoon 3 was such a huge improvement compared to how differently they sounded in 2015, and they were still able to keep the squid-like sound---so what happened to oth? was it due to the lyric changes? def have to get used to this version, everytime pearl's rap starts i keep assuming the older lyrics, so it catches me off guard when she goes in another beat
Besides the end chorus i think they made the remake too "clean" sounding. Its missing a bunch of the other instruments that gave it depth. Though i do like the echoey effect because it will sound more like a concert in game than a studio recording
I like the more low-key vibe of the new version. It feels more mature now, which is fitting. It's almost like now since Off the Hook don't need to impress anyone with their song they can take it a bit easy with the remaster. I like the new parts they added and the slightly changed lyrics. I especially love Marina's vocals in the last part(2:47)! They're simply heavenly!
I love the new color pulse, but the vibe just feels off. Like, to me this feels like a chill remix meant to play in a story mode intro for OTH, Not a song meant to play during Splatfest.
The song is missing the synth that characterized it so much. It's more laid back and there's nothing wrong with that. The thing I like is the new voices; they sound more natural and fresh!
i feel like people are acknowledging that they’ve grown, but are completely throwing it out the window. i like 24 a lot because it does show how much they have changed. they’ve branched out. they tried new things, and now they’re back, but with a new perspective on things. yes it’s not what we where expecting. but when you listen to it with the thought that, they’re different people now compared to 7 years ago in mind, it really does give a whole new perspective to this version
Honestly i think the vocals on the new version are very nice, i love it when characters age and have changes in the vocals during songs. However im not a fan of the new instrumentals, doesnt have the same energy that the original had...
oh my gosh i hate when splatoon songs switch up the original "lyrics" like they're changing it for no reason??? this might sound picky or annoying but it's a real pet peeve of mine that they switch it up when they remake songs
Not only did Nintendo try to complicate the harmony with the louder synth backing, but they didn't DO IT RIGHT !! I think this section is fun, but that's when I'm honing in on one of the layers or something- as a whole.. it sounds a bit messy. :( More doesn't equal alive!!

i think the new one is going for a different vibe from the older one but it feels odd considering its supposed to be more alive for a splatfest,,, the original is definitely better in my opinion..
Honestly I love the new Color Pulse, especially how they harmonize at 1:56 for a moment. (sounds much better when you're listening the song back to back though) And pearl singing with the cheering being more audible. (the instrumentation on that part is also beautiful) Otherwise, I think I understand people thinking the start is empty? But to me it only sounds 'empty' in comparison, on its own the instrumental pauses are a treat to my ears. Everyone's allowed to have their own opinions though, even if I don't quite get the negative response to Color Pulse '24 right now.
this sounds like a pre-production demo, not the long awaited remix to a party anthem... they better give deep cut an absolute rager hyperpop banger in the next dlc to make up for this
i would love a mashup of these versions. keeping the punchy, blood-pumpingly energetic synths and electronic drums of the og and adding in the funky guitar and bass of '24. i really like how '24 has fun with the chord progression in the finale of the song - keep that in for sure. i think these two versions' best qualities can be combined into the ultimate color pulse, mixing up the og into something more interesting (which is what i think nintendo tried to do in the '24 remix) and reincorporating the og's sense of energy into '24. it's also important to remember that this is off the hook after their collab with damp socks, a band with a style that's very different to the singers' usual, so it makes sense they'd incorporate some more traditional instruments like bass and electric guitar! in a way, you can see their style shift a little with these two versions. also, real missed opportunity to get dedf1sh performing onstage with their new besties
city of color definitely had a better remix in my opinion this one just felt like it was missing a lot and the part in between marinas part is missing which really threw me off
im not even gonna lie i like this one a lot like i can see why people dont like it but its rlly good imo . yeah its not perfect but i still like it + their voices may be different but they sound SO GOOD i love the voices marina's is so pretty
I honestly kind of like the new ver. as a "Day 1" Splatfest song. I like the direction of the new vocals with Marina's voice really flourishing and the addition of Pearl's break-down before the chorus. Regarding the instrumental, I personally like the different, somewhat lighter tone they are going for that ends up having a very fun crescendo during the chorus. It all meshes together to form a very cohesive remix for Day 1 that I find much more interesting than the City of Color remix.
I'mma be honest. I prefer the original. The new version sounds like it needs more. I also miss Pearl's high voice. It gave the original song better attack power, along with the original synths the song had. It's missing the hype that the original had. Now, for those of you who say that Nintendo nerfed OTH to make Deep Cut better, did y'all already forget that they're the main idol group of Splatoon 3? Like, think about it, Squid Sisters kinda got nerfed in Splatoon 2 to make OTH look better by brainwashing Callie and taking away the original bass line and 8-bit synths from Calamari Inkantation in Spicy Calamari Inkantation. They want people to like the successors so they do things to make them look better.

Unpopular opinion: I like the newer version more. I think the bass line overall boosts the song a lot. Plus, this is meant to be more relaxed for the first day of a Splatfest, and they just got back from a world tour. I feel like this proves that music outweighs vocals in a song
I like the new version a lot. It's chill but upbeat. The square isn't the mega hottest spot for Turf War anymore, it's Splatsville so Off the Hook can put a much more vibing performance instead of a extremely hyper performance.
I don't know why, but the music and beat from the 24 version feels more like a Sonic song than Splatoon. I listen to it and I get more 3D Blast vibes more than anything. Not a dig at the new version, but a weird feeling.
I think the new version of Color Pulse compliments Side Order, like they go together way better. The vibes are much similar, which is something I've noticed with the old version of Color Pulse too. They compliment the eras of Off the Hook and their evolution of style. I do prefer the old one, but I think the new version compliments the chill vibes that a lot of the music gives in Side Order.
First off while there are some instruments missing, mostly in the beginning again this isn’t the same quality as this is mostly likely rip straight from the game and the in game audio isn’t always the best. So until we get a better quality version in the Jukebox I will not be rating the new rendition.
Both Color Pulse 24 and We're So Back feel like Pearl and Marina came back to a different genre of music and type of audience. Although Color Pulse is my least favourite of the fest songs, I do think the OG can never be beaten in terms of how good and lively it sounded. They tried "bettering" City of Color with 23 too, but only ended up making it sound flatter like Color Pulse 24, almost as if some notes are porpousely missing/not hit.
I like both versions in their own way as for the old one it makes me want to dance and have a fun time and as for the new it just make me chill and most of the time when I listen to splatoon music I don’t associate them with the game so that’s reason two why I like the new one.
the sad thing is that they didn’t even change them… they reused their models from s2 in 3, resulting in them having off proportions and stiffer animation compared to the rest of the models :(

i think it sounds bad because they've grown up, and also because marina's style of music has changed. if you take a look at the old color pulse and compare it to side order's music there's definitely a bigger difference
I personally dont really like the new one :( its alr ofc, but it kinda just feels lacking??? idk something abt it doesnt give off the same vibe as the original does (the only part I especially like abt the new one is at 2:56 cause it sounds neat but thats kinda abt it 😭😭/lh) and unrelated to the song but I also dont rlly like the new models- theyre MUCH duller than they were in splatoon 2 (especially marina) which is kinda sad cause I loved their vibrant colors!!! edit: ok the new one is starting to grow on me a bit!!!! its still not my favorite but its decent!!
