I have never in my life seen this before, there is more to art, than beads and wire, you got it all girl!!! Yest I am interested in seeing the tutorial on making cookie custom cutters, yes I want a dark resin cobochon!!! Yes I would slay for the Fairy House. You are the bomb girl!!! And you are probably soooooooooooo rich!!!!!!!
I just found this video the other day and I’m so happy I did! This is a beautiful technique and I’m having so much fun with it. I just wanted to thank you for posting it (several years ago) . I love it!
I feel like one of those travel size spray bottles would work better than the big spray bottle. That teal is so gorgeous on the black clay, but the pink and purple and blue on white....wow! Love this technique. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Yvonne! I luv your finger paint shift! You’re right..... the teal and gold is superb!!! I think you should make a an Egyptian collar necklace with that spectacular collar blend and gorgeous design!!! Thanx sooooo much! No way are we bored! You silly! You are amazing! 😉👍😊😘
WOW...WOW..WOW... Was curious at the beginning... but, not really impressed. Then.... I am so glad I was patient & watched to the end!! I AM POSITIVELY IMPRESSED!!
O Yvonne! I’m watching the stamp/Color Shift paints tutorial! O man! That stamp texture with those color shift paints is glorious! You just have to make a Diary/Journal cover with that beautiful stamp! It looks so fantasmagorical! It would make a great fantasy journal.... especially with one of your adorable fairy doors!!! We are far from bored, girl! You’re so awesomely talented! 👍🥰😉
I tried it today. Only had the Lumier paint but OMG it is so beautiful. One thing I didn't count on is that the paints dry darker. I wanted rich color and I got it. Next time I will go a little lighter. This definitely has so many possibilities. Absolutely genius. Thanks sooooo much!
Just experimenting is more fun to me than the actual decided techniques! You got some really nice results! I'm excited to know how the flow fluid works out after being baked.
This is by no means a reflection of your work, I have never liked blue and that teal was no exception. On the lid and on the white clay I was, not surprisingly, unimpressed, but when you placed it on the black clay.... WOW, very beautiful. My wife on the other hand is big into blue so I may think about getting this one to use on the pieces I make especially for her, she will be pleasantly surprised I stepped out of my comfort zone and she is definitely worth it. Thank-you for sharing your experiments with us today, I really enjoyed the video. Have a wonderful day!!!
Wow, thank you! One of my favorite things about making stuff to sell is I am constantly working with colors and patterns that are not my personal favorites, but still get really cool results; I never in my life would have thought that I would like hot pink and neon orange so much!
hehehe I hear ya. I am a blood red/black kinda girl but I am definately coming out into the colour world for at least my art work. PS:: I was looking for the teal and couldn't find it, is it possible that the name on the bottle is different?? Thank-you.
Love this! I liked watching the way you applied everything and showed us the effects we could get with the different colors and on different color clay's. Awesome and thank you!
I am amazed at how beautiful these turned out. I admit at the beginning when i saw some of the jars of the paint, I thought they looked a bit too pastel for my taste. The final results proved otherwise. All of them turned out beautiful. I especially love the one at the end that you picked up off the table then put back. At one time, I said I hated neon 80s colors, except what I call X-Files green and I hated all reds and pinks, but recently, I did have to use a bit of red to get a color I was going for on my valances for my bathroom. I was trying to match the color of a very old table that I love. It has a stain on it that looks like the high end cherry stains that you see on old Victorian style tables, but then it has lots of purples in it too. I ended up using more red to get it as close as I could to that color. I don't think the 80s neon colors will ever win me over, although, I can see how they might work as accents as opposed to the main color of something.
lol, thanks Brandywine! I am right there with you: but I went into it with colors I don't care for anyway for the sake of science lol! I feel like neon colors have a time and place, and it isn't everywhere all the time :p
I am binge watching your poly clay vids and assembling an Amazon list of things I will need. What type of pasta machine do you use?? Also, I gathered the materials for your eye cabachons and gaahhh love them, although i can never get the pupil to be as beautiful as yours when the polish is still wet. For me, I have found that letting it dry and then scraping it gives me a nice effect. I love love LOVE what you do and if I can one day be even a fraction as talented as you are I will die a happy woman. Thank you for all you do! 💖
I wanna be an artist like you. I’m so amateurish it’s pathetic. I’m like you in that I’m an experimenter, but my eye color palette is terrible. No eye for distinctive mixing of color. You are my hero, lol!
I wonder if you took scrap clay to your cutters and put it around the edge you push on and bake it if that would be a skin guard. I would like to see a tutorial on how you make your cutters.
I love color theory! In answer to your question at the beginning.... as a general rule, any colors on opposite sides of the color wheel make shades of brown... ;)
Color wheels can be a big help if you’re still learning color theory. They have tons of useful info on them. It’ll tell you what colors are opposites and what color results when you mix two. You can get them at Home Depot or online. They’re so much fun!
Your videos are never boring! I was wondering what types of jewelry do men or males, I'm sure that the tastes maybe change from teenage boys to men, purchase from you? Do you have a video towards male pieces. I feel kind of silly asking these questions because I've watched a lot of your videos and I haven't seen one yet but I still have more to watch. I am interested as ideas for my son. The men in my life have not normally worn jewelry. But my son has been known to. Hope to catch you live someday.❤️🌞
I’m not sure the link to the stamp you provided is the actual stamp you used. The stamp you used has tighter swirls and wavelike figures. Can you confirm? Love Love Love this technique. I’ve already made numerous things with the color shift paints after seeing this awesome video! Thank you!
I bet the teal, the purple and gold would look nice on a white background, with a black edge smudged into it, but only with very little of the colours so the white comes through well too with the spritzed effect. XxxxxX
I love this idea! I have not been able to find a video showing how you put the resin on the polymer clay cabachon. Do you have a video of this? Thanks for sharing your talent
I like to chop scrap clay into little chunks, squeeze it back together, then shape or run through the pasta machine. It helps spread the colors throughout the new sheet.
Hello! Thank you! The tools will really be determined by the project: I have the tools I used in this video listed in the description box. Do you have a particular project in mind? I highly recommend this book on polymer clay, its an excellent resource for starting out, and I still refer back to it now with 8 years of clay experience: amzn.to/2NY1xoC
Hey Von and other crafters! My cousin and I hit a GOLD MINE and want to share! For crafting supplies like faux flowers, beads, and things that can be repurposed into cosplay and/or fairy houses hit up local Goodwill Outlets. Outlets are where the stuff goes before it hits the stores! Its not sorted so you will need gloves and possibly a cheap dustmask but it is so worth it! We got HUNDREDS of beads, and Thousands of flowers for only $75 (you pay by the pound instead of $2-??? For individual items). We suggest hitting it up and stocking up on the good stuff. We also suggest going in the morning and staying for a good few hours!
Could you disburse paint with isopropanol on the polymer clay? I'm not sure if the alcohol will affect the polymer clay or not? Maybe something to consider. I really enjoy watching someone do discovery play. It's like test kitchens... The finger painting application of the pigments was stunning. Thanks for the video.
I love this technique, but I have a few questions. I want to dome the clay in the cutter so its not flat. I know that I would need to gently push the clay on the back side. Here is where I am lost, do you have a tutorial on how I would then put a back on it to make a flat back cabochon or how I would make it into a bead? I see others pushing into a silicon mold for the shape but I know that will flatten the design of the applied texture. If you do not already have a tutorial on how to do this. Could you please make one? Thanks :)
Very Nice ! do you ever have issues with the resin pulling away from the edges? I have and wonder if its a resin brand thing? That is my only frustration with the resin part. Even though i am sure to spread it all the way to the edge with a needle, when it dries, more times than not, it will have pulled away from the edge by like 1mm .... any tips for avoiding this problem? Thanks, always a pleasure to watch and be inspired by you!
Hey, Cheryl! What resin are you using? I have found with art n glow, art resin, and clear cast 7000 if I spread it too thin I will get problems, but if I add a few more drops (being careful to not add so much as to over flow!) Then I get much better results. I hope this helps!
I'm a little confused about the whole water thing. Is the water necessary? Or was that just to help the colors mix together? I'm not sure what the whole color shift aspect of the paint is. Do the colors change when you add water? It was hard to see through the camera (or maybe it's just my old eyes, lol). I think maybe I missed the video with the other paint so that's probably why I'm a bit perplexed. :o) Also, a question about the resin. I've never used resin before (but watching all your videos with it, I might just have to try it soon). Is that resin a type of self-doming resin? How does it keep from running off the side of the cabochon?
Truthification Chronicles Von does like to use self doming resin ... Color shift paint changes colors according to the angle of the piece in relation to the light source and the observer ... They use it on vehicles too ... If I remember right, the water helps blend the colors along their edges to help minimize color separation ...
Thanks, James! I guess the water confused me a bit because with regular acrylic paint, if you mix in too much water, it separates the pigment somehow and makes the paint less likely to adhere. Is this type of color shifting paint different? But then, she did mention Floetrol at the end, so maybe she's still experimenting with them. I'm so behind in watching her videos (life has rudely intervened on my crafting!). I hope she has one on the self-doming resin. Is it a special kind? I love the effect!
Unlike plain acrylic paints, these contain tiny mica flakes that reflect a different color on each side (hence the "2 colored" appearance of each color of paint). The water just helps blend the different colors of paint together. I bet you could add some of the "interference" colors of mica powders (like Pearl Ex) to plain acrylic paint and come up with some cool effects that way too!
i think if you work son big batches of clay with the intention to cut the shapes, you could try smaller sections of paint at a time, instead of *⅓green, ⅓ blue, ⅓ yellow*. so that in the cut pieces there's more than 1 color at a time. if you have tried this, please share cuz I love your work.
Yes! I can see using sponge daubers, or even a small paintbrush, to dab dots of various colors all over the surface. I do this technique with watercolors, pastels and acrylics to create large multicolored backgrounds.
I'd love to see you do some of the resin doming because I tend to have trouble with my pouring for some reason...also have you tried using both the paint and the Lumiere together on one piece? That might be cool too. I haven't done clay in a long time because I got discouraged with it but I'm thinking about starting it up again!
Resin pouring is coming out tomorrow! (I think I said this to someone yesterday, but I was all mixed up on what day it was, lol!) The folk art and lumiere play really well together!
Hey, Frances! The water isn't necessary, but I like the effect it gets as it dries when using the halo paints. When making your own you can leave the spritzing out to get the effect you are looking for
You are so awesome I love your character.... I like when you see new possibilities how you react only due to I do the same thing and it just blows my mind.... Yesssss there are people out there that think like me I'm not going crazy... I enjoyed your creation and I can't wait to try I will message you once done I'm so excited to show your work off I can't wait to give you BIG props and market your instructions.... My business name is Tiny Designz can't wait to show some love... PLEASE MAKE VIDEO ON MAKING YOUR OWN CUTTERS!!
The mudding effect your having is due to putting contrasting colors together what you had figured that out but also way too much water is causing it to money try to find a sprayer that is a finer mist. Love the technique enjoy the video
I wonder what would happen if you watered down the paints and put them in spray bottles then used that to spritz either onto the plain clay or to add an effect onto a painted piece, i.e. painting the clay per normal but spritzing it with the watered down violet or black to give a shimmery sheen and a bit of color to the whole thing?
Hey. Maria! I think it cuts down on the amount of water I have to spray on to get things to start flowing; it could be my imagination, but I have fun :)
acrylic paint bonding to surfaces is pretty much ruined when water is added to it. an acrylic flow medium is recommended. if you wish to blend them use sponge daubers.
When I click on the Stamp Set in the description, it looks like a different design that you used. Could you verify what stamp you used and where I could find it? Thank you in advance.
Heya! I like painting in a big sheet and then cutting out the pieces; I feel like I get more interesting paint variations than when I paint individual pieces, and the scrap becomes marbled clay really nicely :)
