Thank you Susan for taking the time to make this lesson for us newbies! I'm so excited my drawing has improved, but it seems once I start adding color things fall apart because my values are off. Had to practice lesson 1 on values several times to get it to stick. Now I'm ready for this great lesson on color. So much to learn. Thank you for your patience and dedication as a teacher.

To me the warmest color would be somewhere in the orange umbrella. I can think of a cool yellow and a cool red, but i can't really think of a cool orange, as the warmest yellows and reds are those that lean toward orange.
@JA-ed1tj
@JA-ed1tj 3 года назад
The way you explained that a color can be cooler or warmer depending on the direction you are moving on the color wheel really helped me. I can equate that to musical notes that can be a sharp or flat depending on which direction you are moving on the musical scale! Thank you so much.

I love that comment because I've had so many people say that they think red is the warmest color. For some reason, yellow works best logically for me.

Hello Mrs Jenkins, It was really awesome to understand the basics and moreover it totally cleared my doubts during the video itself. Thnx ma'am for explaining so well. Moreover I wanted to ask if you would be creating more lessons on color theory, like uk combining both this color theory with greyscale and neutral tones, it was explained in this video as well but let's say that one for making complex colors ma'am. Anish said hii, Tc ma'am, prayers for ur mum in law ❤️ Love from India ❤️ Arun
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 3 года назад
That’s a great suggestion Arun. I have some videos on “neutrals” and how to incorporate them in a painting, but I really want to combine all of these elements together into one video if I can do it in a simplified way. Please tell Anish I said hi and I’m thinking of him.
@Uddaybhaikabaap
@Uddaybhaikabaap 3 года назад
@@monetcafe ma'am tbh I've seen some of them but uk putting them all in one place will help us connect dots very fast, learning theory is one aspect but it's application is another therefore if we'll have that theory in one place, it'll be very easy for us to remember and try work on mistakes, rest I'm always on your sides, I'm very happy to attend every lesson. Anish was quite delighted to receive your greetings, he intends to extend his from lord's blessings and prayers. Tc ma'am, See ya in next video.

If you want to get brightest, truest colors, you can use primary colors and mix them. Get cyan, magenta and yellow pastels. The brightest red you can get is by mixing magenta and yellow. If you want the brightest green, mix cyan and yellow. Brightest, truest blue - cyan and magenta. That’s exactly why they’re primary colors in the subtractive system ( in printing, in painting, anything where pigments are mixed). You can literally get any other color by mixing these 3 pigments together. While you can never get cyan, magenta or yellow by mixing other colors. Try it out with paints, pastels or markers and you’ll see.
@monetcafe
@monetcafe Год назад
Oh yes! I’m a total fan of using these colors as primary colors. As a graphic designer I learned that these are the actual colors used in print to mix every color you see in any type of magazine or printed item.👍🏻☺️ lots of people don’t know about this. So neat that you do!

I always have problems considering which temperature blues are. I can differentiate a cool and warm yellow, red , green and purple. But never blue. If I compare phthalo blue and ultramarine I would consider phthalo blue to go towards yellow so that would make it a warm blue but everyone says it is a cool blue because it goes towards green. Ultramarine is usually considered a warm blue because it has red in it although I feel it's cool because it goes towards a cool purple. It's very confusing
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 2 года назад
I feel the same way about ultramarine blue… It does seem lean a bit towards purple.

I'm confused about the Color Temp sketch. The SKY arrow is labeled "Warmer to Cooler" and is pointing from top to the horizon. Should it be the other way around?

@@monetcafe And thank you for making it clear in the "rule breaker" examples that the sky "temperatures" really depend on the location of the light source, whether sun or moon.
