Dude was getting 60 apples a year. Pretty sure he had 70 in one of them. Such a team player. Die hard habs fan, but when Roy went to Colorado I was a and still have been a fan. 2001 team might have been the most stacked to date.

Yeah as an Avs fan I felt the same when Eddie the eagle beat Roy consecutive conference finals...grew up cheering for The Wall and The Eagle.

No question. The Devils were dominant in stretches that whole playoff run. Got to the 7th game on talent alone though... consistency just never seemed to get there. Probably the most talented team they ever had, just don’t ask them to play a full 60. Tough pill to swallow, but Colorado deserved it.

Forsberg would've won the Conn Smythe if he didn't injure his spleen. On the other hand, it allowed Roy to become the only player to win it 3 times. Bourque's rocket in Game 6 was the series winner.

@James Hammon you already know if Pittsburgh magically wins the cup again there's literally not a chance that Crosby won't win the Smythe for the 3rd time. Didn't deserve it in 2017 and CERTAINLY didn't in 2016.

As an Avs fan this gives me goosebumps almost 20 years later. That Sakic shot through the legs of Stevens was so sick! And who could forget Alex Tanguay's effort that night? Man...I sure hope the Avs get another Cup soon!

Rez Grubauer posted a 2.63 GAA and a .916 save percentage, that’s solid. Francouz posted a 2.41 GAA and a .923 save percentage, also solid. Makar is still developing but we still have Erik Johnson, Ryan Graves, Nikita Zadarov, Samuel Girard, Ian Cole, Kevin Connaughton, Mark Baberio. I think we’re solid on defense and goaltending if you ask me

Watching this reminds me of how much of a class act Joe Sakic is. Selflessly handing that cup to Ray Bourque will go down as one of the most memorable acts in hockey history. That was a very dangerous Avalanche team. Has anyone seen the alternate commentary on Sakic's goal? "Sakic fakes it...takes it...SCORES!!". LEGENDARY!

Everybody remembers the Cup pass to Ray but Sakic dominated this game from start to finish. Damn, I hope I can feel this level of excitement again in a few weeks.

Lots of people forget that the Early 2000's Devils were actually an offensive juggernaut. We were always used to them JUST being a defensive team due to Brodeur and the Trap.

I remember this for 2 reasons Bourque finally getting to hoist the Cup, and having to drive my wife to work in Downtown while the celebration was still going on couldn't get close enough to her building so had to drop her off 5 blocks away, she ended up getting an escort from 3 of Denver's finest the last 3 blocks

As a born and raised Bostonian who grew up less than 7 miles from The Garden/Fleetcenter, I remember CRYING with my Nana, and my Grandfather when Bourque FINALLY WON HIS CUP!!! The city of Boston were absolutely AVALANCHE FANS THAT NIGHT!! I was always a Patrick Roy fan in fact when we would play street hockey I was either Patrick Roy or Lord Byron Dafoe lmao! I wish RU-vid had the entire Avs run in ‘01. I know a guy uploaded this game but the audio quality is too rough to watch it….(not his fault, VHS doesn’t translate well to RU-vid). I’m still a B’s fan first and foremost BUT we were Avs fan ON 6/9/01!!

This remains, to me, the all-time best Stanley Cup finals I've ever watched. Seeing Ray lift the Cup while bawling his eyes out was so moving and touching, seeing Captain Joe not lift it, but instead give it straight to Ray... I was 10 years old when I watched this live and I cried watching it now as I did 20 years ago. "Hey Hey, what do you say, let's do it for Ray"

Even though I’m not an avalanche fan (Ok well kinda they play really well) it’s so fun and joyful to see them cheer cause they won the Stanley cup.
