Front Range Passenger Rail is a developing transportation opportunity for Colorado’s Front Range with anticipated higher speed, intercity travel across Colorado’s Front Range from Fort Collins to Loveland, Longmont, Boulder, Denver, South Denver, Castle Rock, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.
Front Range Passenger Rail District (FRPRD) General Manager Andy Karsian and Chairman Jim Souby shared their vision and achievements to realize an additional travel option along Colorado’s Front Range through passenger rail.
FRPRD’s accomplishments include being awarded and accepted into the Federal Railroad Administration’s Corridor Identification and Development Program in 2023.
Andy and Jim also shared information about local, state, and federal partnerships, political turns, and the ongoing planning for the 180-mile intercity passenger rail project that includes phase two route extensions to Wyoming and New Mexico.

A great video and an awesome panel! I ended up sending two letters as a result of this, one to the governor of Utah and the other to the governor of Colorado. I really think the two states can learn a lot from each other. Utah has a great front range rail but has no good central station (we need the Rio Grande Plan) and Colorado has a beautiful Union Station. I asked the two governors to meet and discuss and tour the facilities. Who knows maybe they both will get on board with the Rio Grande Plan after this!!

The governors are analyzing more than trains stations.

Wow, what way to get a great idea and make sure it’s absolutely as unambitious as possible. While I was watching the video I checked the official timeline for the taxing district, and they don’t plan on starting service until 2035! How on earth you have existing right away and popular support and still get stuck in environmentals and feasibilities stutters is beyond me. Front range rail was something I was really looking forward to watching the next few years, I now believe that it’s never going to happen.

Great discussion, everyone. I'm delighted to see the movement to establish this service gaining serious traction. (More sand, please.) Besides donating, what are the best ways for someone living outside Colorado to support the plan and help build the momentum?

Great questions Rick. lf and when it happens the planned frequency and speed may not generate more than a millon annual riders.

It’s too bad that Denver Union Station downgraded itself to a terminal station and then allowed skyscrapers to be built blocking the pass through ROW. Incredibly shortsighted and just before it became more relevant than ever.

Can't they run Push-pull trains .. so Engineers just change ends and go the other way at track speed. The Keystone service does it everyday.

@@thetrainguy1They could buy Siemens venture car sets (Airo's) for that. They also have level boarding and low platform boarding. It can also be dual mode with overhead wires and diesel. It checks all the boxes.

Colorado could have looked like Switzerland, but old-fashioned republican politics stopped that. Hopefully you can build something comparable. 🚅🚆🚊🚋🛤
