Correction: the pass name is Hurricane, not Hurrah which is in Utah. The drone shot credited to my Son @michaelcharliedelta. He rode the pass a week earlier on 800GS Adventure. See his COBDR on his channel.

I posted the same question down in the comments but reposting here hoping for a reply. Are you using an adjustable midrange screw to keep the DR happy at high altitude?

I have not touched the carb in any way since set up at near sea level. Procycle carb kit with opened air box, LeoVince exhaust. It did fine both on the TAT in 2019 and since. Sounds crazy!

So impressive! Your core strength, cardio, grip strength (got arm pump just watching the video), legs strength... and yes that dude on the GSA was killing it too! Ton of respect! The mental state of those ppl taking their cars up there!? This new generation has lost it. Ha!

Very impressive seeing you climb Ophir Pass from the West side. Congratulations JR on succeding this well known difficult Pass. You're a great inspiration for me to live more adventure on my motorcycle. I greatly appreciate your video for I plan to do the COBDR next summer. I think Ophir Pass will be my biggest challenge on that route. Just hope that the weather will be as good as you had with minimal traffic. Can't wait to see your next video with Brock Gill. ''Less fear, more adventure!'' Great content from you as always. Thank you so much.

JR & DR, dual sporting beast! Great job of riding those incredible mountain trails. When they look steep on the camera, they ARE steep. You captured beautiful video of the mountains in all their splendor. Just stunning. Video editing and music top notch. I'm stunned that people are that clueless driving their cars on those roads. Cheers!

I first rode Ophir Pass in 2003 and the upper section was far better condition. I heard locally that the maintainers leave it less improved for the off road types. It use to be considered one of the easier passes but from your video, corkscrew looks easier. Great video.

Good job keeping it upright and on the path on that rocky climb, looked serious. And assembling these videos, you have skillful instincts and craftsmanship. Can't help but wonder what you did in your working life. You've also been blessed with good health and the ability/knowledge to maintain it. At 73 it's nothing short of impressive. But who's counting? 😂 Just keep gettin' it, have purpose and direction with God's help! ☮️

Enjoyed the video! Yes, I can believe there was a Toyota Camry on Ophir Pass, because when I was through there on the TAT in 2021, a box truck had attempted it, was stuck, and the entire pass was closed because of it. Who does that? LOL We had to detour.

Great Job JR. And great riding especially through that tricky section past the Camry. Watching that made me nervous. My goal is to be like you 30 years and be doing even more adventure and have more skills then I do now. Have you had any issues with DR650 since you've owned it?
@jrdepew
@jrdepew 6 месяцев назад
It has been flawless for 26,000 hard miles. I did have an ignition box pin problem while on the ORBDR 2023 and covered on my channel. Due primarily to rackless luggage compressing onto the plug and breaking off pins.

There seem to be a lot of pretty big displacement bikes on this route. Do you think it would be possible to load up a Honda CRF300L dual sport with camping gear and do the same route? Just trying to get a feel for whether or not this could be done on a smaller bike.

I’m a ‘returning rider’ at age 66. Had a street bike in the ‘80s, that was a long time ago! Would like to do some motocamping and plan to do the Pennsylvania BDR-X this summer, which is dirt/gravel roads. I’m shopping for a dual sport, the Honda CRF300L is a good one but the Yamaha TW200 might be safer for me, although that bike can’t really do interstate highways. I don’t care much for street riding at this point, really just want to be off road in the backcountry. Thanks for the inspiring content!
