📍Segment 18 - Lake City
After a long 17-mile road walk this afternoon, Giddy Up talked me into cowboy camping for my first time in the backcountry-and I’m SO glad that we did! It was a great evening, and the stars were awesome that night. We’re headed for San Luis Pass today and have talked about attempting San Luis Peak, a CO 14er along the CT (if weather allows).
It was a very windy afternoon. Every step forward felt like 3 steps back and there was no way I was going to attempt San Luis Peak at this rate. I was upset that I pushed myself too hard to the point of giving up. TBH- I only got the motivation to push myself up the pass after “Rip” passed me on the trail. We hadn’t seen a single hiker that entire day, and here she comes climbing up the pass. It was a breath of fresh air, and grateful she hadn’t seen me bawling my eyes out. I mustered up the energy to make it up the pass and apologized to Giddy Up for having her wait on me. Grateful for the descent, but it was a LONG day. Talk of Lake City and a full zero in town motivates us to push for a hitch the next day. Lake City here we come!
