A tutorial about how to create a beautiful faux batik surface effect on polymer clay, using the ColorShift acrylic paints covered in UV resin.
Colorshift colors used in this tutorial:
Background gradient 1 = Green Flash, Emerald Flash, Dragon Flash.
Batik effect Red Flash
Background gradient 2 = Yellow Flash, Orange Flash, Red Flash; B
atik effect Aqua Flash
Background gradient 3 = Orchid Flash, Pink Flash, Blue Violet Flash
Batik effect Yellow Flash
Background gradient 4 = Aqua Flash, Blue Flash, Blue Violet Flash;
Batik effect Yellow Flash
Back: Black Flash
You can use only one color of the gradient +the batik effect color, or even reverse them.
You can buy Colorshift acrylic paints in store, or online from Polyclayplay
polyclayplay.c...
or my Amazon Influencer store (look under Paints)
www.amazon.com...
Also in my Influencer store you can buy tiles (look in Ovens and Thermometers) like the ones I used in this video, just make sure you order one of each color. They are cheaper at Lowe's or Home Depot though.
Resin: Chinese UV resin & UV lamp / 1 ml syringes. Please check my Amazon Influencer store in the Resins category.
The cutters I'm using were purchased from the Nemravka website (in the Czech Republic). Be aware that the prices are in Czech Korunas, so look right to the left of the shopping basket and click on the arrow down to select USD (or Euro if you're in Europe)
www.nemravka.c...
The stencils can be found in the "Stencils & dies" section of my Amazon Influencer store, www.amazon.com...
You can use any other finer stencils and even silkscreen.
If you don't have a painting sponge, you can use a regular sponge, even a dish sponge.

About the warping of the pieces: the curing in the UV lamp will cause your pieces to warp if they're thin, as the resin will start pulling on the edges as it's curing. When that happens, simply put the pieces on a piece of paper on a tile. Put in the oven for 5 minutes, then take out (with the paper and tile still under them), cover with another paper, then another tile, then put something heavy on top. Let sit until they cool off. They'll become straight.

I have created many pieces that have warped after curing. Thank you for being the first to clear up this problem. Great tutorial, clear and to the point. Ever grateful.

Beautiful idea. Love the blues the best. You can use heat/bake some two part resins that have a high heat threshold. I have seen some as high as 400F when cured so it would be safe to bake with/on polymer clay. Just have to make sure to read all the information you get with the resin and also the website FAQ is a great place for information. :D Thanks for sharing. I definitely want that stencil pack. - Heidi

It's more an issue of yellowing or not, not so much of being heat resistant. I know that the Chinese UV and Tiny Pandora's Deep Shine don't get affected. I had Magic Gloss yellowing.

I looked on your Amazon page but didn't see that texture thing you use. -The white one, where you textured the black clay before baking, Is there a name for it. Thanks

It's a texturing sponge. It used to be available in Donna Kato's online store, but it has been out of stock for quite a while. If you look in my Influencer store in the Textures section, right after the Cool Tools textures, I've placed some other sponges that can be used instead. Essentially, they are fish tank filters, air conditioning filters, or fridge veggie drawer liners. Any sponge that is firmer.

Very Beautiful! After you put the resin on, do you cure in UV light, and then put in oven to flatten? Sorry a bit confused!
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 4 года назад
You cure it under UV light, and that will cause it to warp, as the resin once it starts curing it will pull on the edges. So once it's warped from curing, you put it in the oven then once it's hot you take it out, put it between sheets of paper and tiles, and put something heavy on top.

Day, I have watched the video several times and love it. I am having problems with the stencil. When I paint with the stencil my paint gets through the stencil and makes a mess. I am curious you make it look so darn easy!
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 4 года назад
You're using too much paint. Put raw undiluted paint on the finger dauber or a small sponge then daub a couple times first on a paper towel, then use it on the stencil, almost like for the dry rub technique. The paint must be thick and very little on the sponge. Are you using the plastic stencils I've used in the tutorial? Because with those the paint doesn't go through
