Why was the only pro for the Troll's Golden Sword that it does LESS damage than most other colossal weapons? Also when you mention unique movesets, you only show off the 1 handed movesets.
He also forgets to mention you have to do an on foot jumping puzzle to get it. Might be the hardest weapon in the game to get to, that's not even considering the godskin you gotta fight for it
@Elijah no the dmg over time effect does way more dmg to enemies with more health in my experience I used the wa on placi twice and it did almost half his health on ng+10 im not saying black blade is the better weapon im saying that the wa has a better dmg over time than the black flame along with that flat 10% debuff it can also work in tandem with the incant for a instant 20% health debuff
@@kill3rbyysight would you rather do fast attacks and little damage or slow attacks and massive damage, more likely than not in most boss fights you wont be getting a lot of hits in per attack so slow attack big damage would be better
given the Troll Knight's sword, the Royal Greatsword, Ruins Greatsword and Starscourge Greatsword, I still think there should be a staff that scales with strength similar to the clawmark seal. the meteorite staff jumps to mind for this
It doesn't quite scale with Strength, but the Demi-Human Queen's Staff does very well up to like 40 Int, so it works well for Str-Int builds that aren't too big on Int. Besides, Cold affinity does still scale with Int. (It's much more important IMO to have a seal that scales with Dex so Lightning damage can finally make sense.)
Reminds me of when I saw a battlemage in DnD. By battlemage I mean, this player was an overbuffed spellcaster that only used melee weapons with a staff. Come to think of it, oddly terrfying
Damn I was literally just wondering yesterday if you'd ever make the colossal sword version of the series and here we are. Thanks for a whole year's worth of quality Elden Ring content!
I'd like to see a video on flails or hammers (or both); something that does primarily strike damage. They're an underused weapon type, and between both classes there are quite a few options. Dual-wielding hammers is pretty fun and has a cool standard L1 move set. Other than those, I'd also like to see a video on spears and/or great spears for block counter builds.
On my first playthrough I went with the night rider’s flail, focusing on a block counter strategy; it counters extremely quickly and does high poise damage for its size.
This is by far the best series on the channel. I don't really care about the order of the next weapon types, but I'd love to see the same style of videos for shield types, staves, and seals. Additionally, a video about armour could be made, not every piece of armor, but the standout ones (either with the best weight, poise ratio, highest poise, poise breakpoints, etc.)
With so many of the videos breaking down weapons, I would like to request one video on armor. There would be plenty of topics to cover, such as poise thresholds, wether or not the bullgoats talisman would bump a set into a new threshold, the equipment weight categories (light, medium, and heavy), and comparing the relevant stats and unique effects of complete armor sets.
Given the cool factor of Maliketh's Black Blade, I hope that in the DLC, which will hopefully come sometime in the future, enemies and bosses wont resist holy damage
Don’t let the holy damage scare you away from the weapon, destined death does insane hp% damage to late game bosses regardless. I absolutely shat on Malenia with it because the ash also stuns her as it hits and then knocks her down when it finishes. It’s also devastating against Elden Beasts massive health bar. The only downside to really consider is that your basic attacks won’t be as strong, but as long as you spam destined death (like you should) you’ll never even notice enemies with holy resistance.
Even elden beast stands no chance against Maliketh's black blade. You can absolutely melt healthbars of bosses with destined death, no matter how high the holy damage resistance may be.
Grafted Blade Greatsword has two main uses: Game of Thrones cosplay, and getting the Age of Order ending if you're not a mage (since you can stack the INT buff with others like the Stargazer Heirloom to get the 37 INT needed to cast Law of Regression).
How about a video showcasing what makes a weapon good or bad for ng+ and beyond without talking about a specific weapon class? I havent really found anything on that topic specifically and it could be a great opportunity to make people watch your (excellent) build guides. I feel like most people have made their way through the game by this point and may be interested in trying out ng+.
it's basically if the weapon has more than one stat with decent scaling. so most weapons that are tri scaling will be good for NG+. Weapons that have good scaling for 2 attributes will also be good for NG+.
@@raho500 stat requirements shouldn’t even be a consideration in NG+. Weight becomes less and less important as you go through NG+ cycles due to having more points to put in Endurance. Range isn’t any more important in NG+ than it is in NG. It really comes down to “how much damage can I get out of scaling on this weapon” or “how fast can I proc status effects”.
the incant black flame also goes insanely hard late ng+. Fire giant, funny enough, is super weak to it because of his giant hp pool. I was at 40 something faith and could do 5k damage off of three uncharged casts with duel wield godslayer seals
Very simply, use a medium shield with carian retaliation or golden retaliation to parry. Small shields are worse in every way but weight. For staggering, use a short sword with face off or any heavy weapon to deal poise damage, switch to misericorde dagger for crit. Daggers can't stagger anything with it's ashes of war after flame of the redmanes was nerfed, unless you use ground slam, which is still worse than switching. Powerstance daggers are terrible with anything but bleed, and are the worst fast weapon for bleed. Without flinch and stagger damage, with low damage, low status build up, and bad ashes, daggers' only advantage is a short attack animation.
I'd like to mention that Zweihander's chagre R2 is a thrust attack which can be boosted by the Spear talisman. You'll see a MASSIVE 1,5x damage increase if you hit your enemy just in time. Paired with RKR ash of war, charged attack tear and talisman it makes your charged R2s absolutely devastating! I'm not speaking about extremely low stat requirements so even dexterity build could use it. That's why Zweihander is definately the best colossal sword in ER.
Oh man. I had no idea that Fire infusion gave better attack power for so many colossal swords. I've been sticking with Heavy on the assumption that it would be best for someone with 50 or 60 Str. That's great to know, thanks!
Heavy would be better at 50 strength or beyond for most cases. Just because you have a higher AR with fire doesn't necessarily mean that you will deal more damage, since it is split damage and will have to go through defense reduction twice.
Fire scales with strength, flame art scales with faith. Generally leaving your great sword on heavy and buffing with bloodflame blade will give you more power than fire infusion. It also looks super fucking cool
Great sword is so much fun and can be buffed. It can be used immediately if you have a bleed weapon and a golden fowl foot. It's in a carriage that's on the way to the 99k rune dragon (with the foot). Good weapon to try for all players, since your swings are so slow you have to learn to be selective with attacks, no button mashing. This also forces you to dodge which is for some reason much easier using this style. 5th playthrough and it's the most fun so far, got to morgot without having to use any summons and I'm not very good at the game.
I think it's a shame that the troll knight's sword is essentially the same as the troll's golden sword. Since it's a spell the troll knights actually use I think it would be cool if the troll knight sword came with greatblade phalanx built into it, it would make sense as an ash of war and it would really make the weapon really stand out since glintblade phalanx an ash of war that can't naturally be put on colossal swords
I dual wielded Ruins Greatsword and Black Blade in NG+2 and it’s absolutely insane. Use shard of Alexander, rotten wing sword insignia, with jump enhance talisman and dragoncrest great shield talisman. Clawmark seal for spells.. Literal walking death
What I’ve found works best for the Godslayer’s Greatsword is keeping a second weapon in another main hand slot with the Glintblade Phalanx skill on it. This allows you to quickly break the enemy’s poise in 2-3 casts and then switch to the greatsword skill with a longer window to use its ash of war. Using Phalanx to poise break instead of jump or heavy attacks also leaves you with plenty of stamina to pull off the initial and followup strikes of the black flame skill.
Some weeks ago I finished my pure strenght run with only the greatsword and I was surprised how easy I came through, since I usually prefer magic and a bit distance. This thing cleaves through enemys like butter. Only Malenia and the Eldenbeast were really difficult but I beat them in the end.
The only issue I have with current generation colossal swords. Is that there is no (apart from Godslayer, and Starscourge.) alternate move set. I think, what would’ve been cool is to have the vertical overhead swings return. Or, a way to “swap” the move sets in the round table. Other than that, Zweihander is absolutely THE best colossal. Hands down.
The great sword does extremely well on a blood infusion as well. High AR plus around 160 bleed damage. It'll bleed in 2 hits on most enemies. Use giants hunt ash and it's absolutely dumb how fast you take down everything.
Beat every single boss with the Grafted Great sword first play through. The goal of my build was to make myself more a boss than the actual bosses - hits extremely hard, extremely tanky but doesn’t avoid a lot of attacks. What you need is a very heavy and strong armor. Against most bosses you will have to tank hits from time to time as the animation of each of your attacks is just that long. Also you are wasting a shit tone of endurance every hit and weight a lot. You will need to get a lot of endurance otherwise you are never getting more than 2 hits in a row because your endurance will just be spent. Used talismans for raw stats - Endurance, Vitality and Radagon’s soreseal. The last talisman I switched around depending on what I judged most useful at the time. Had 70 strength, 40 endurance, 50 vitality, 25 dexterity when I completed the game. The weapon also scales with dexterity a bit. Kept other stats at the minimum. You will never have any trouble with non Boss enemies excluding the knights with horned helmets. You are just staggering everything to death. Most enemies won’t get to move before they die. Weapon art is awesome and obviously easy to use - you just gain stats and you can truly stack a lot of raw stats with the weapon art + Godrick’s rune even early on. Levelling priority was Strenght -> Vigor -> Endurance -> I levelled dexterity only at the end of the game as I did not know what to put points in and it was giving my weapon more damage than strength was at this point. For my physick I used the one that increases stamina + the one that makes rolling smoother.
I'm doing my first run of the game pretty blind, and i managed to find the guts sword immediately and powerstancing that with the zweihander has been awesome!
Hey Cas! I’m back to ER after a long break! I’ve been playing ESO, you can thank Yuria for that.🤣🤣 Seems I have some catching up to do on your ER videos. As always, thank you for the time that you put into making these videos. Also, the Godslayer GS is the best weapon in the game. The speed and weapon art combined with its stagger makes up for the lower AR.🤓
I'm a fan of Colossal weapons. It makes things easier when enemies are unanable to hit you because they are constantly stun locked and they work pretty well as a shield. Very nice those of us who are pretty shitty at parrying!
Just out of curiosity, were there any pros to the Troll’s Golden Sword or were they the same as the Troll’s Sword from earlier in the video? I saw that something was blurred out. Please keep these coming! I may not be playing the game anymore, but I love the deep dives on weapons.
So I know this is old but I still would like to mention that the faith fire scaling seems to have the highest reachable ARs in the game for basically anything I have tried it on. In spite of the fact that it seems to neuter the scalings. Which i find to be just confounding.
Been waiting for this vid. Colossal swords have become my favorite weapon class simply because they're, well, colossal swords. It is just satisfying to fight with one of these swords. Duel wielding these swords if you have the stats to spare is a fun sight to see.
Greatsword was my first and only weapon for most of the game. And my friend dropped me another one so I just went pure physical. Got 40 STR and lots of endurance to even carry those two before putting any points in vigor xDD it was so much fun!
Interesting I just found great sword in Calied in the busted carriage. Never used it until now on a new character. This thing hits like a Mack truck even after DLC update recently. Can’t believe I ignored this sword! Great vid
I’m trying to roleolay a black flame monk build with the black flame great sword. The faith requirement for some of the black flame incantation is very annoying. And it’s hard to hit some of the mobile bosses like Melania with them.
Godslayers great sword is amazing. Used it on my first play through and with the dex and faith scaling it got to 909 AR and 1001 if I buffed with an incantation. Dual wielded them all through ng+
I've always appreciated the Royal greatsword. Finished my run with that bad boy. But that ruins greatsword had been looking quite fun lately. Hold on a minute, to me it looks like the godslayer greatsword has a unique r1 animation. Usually you get the side swings from ugs, but this is a bit more flowing, not quite the sexy moveset from banished/knights greatsword. But it still isn't the normal ones. I wanna see either spears, or great spears next please mr Fex
The Ruins Greatsword is what I used for my first playthrough into the second half of the game(Greatsword prior). By far my favorite weapon in the game even today.
royal greatsword in combination with a cold infused claymans harpoon that has the icespear weaponart on it is a nice combo to trigger frost from range and have amazing melee dmg
This is a great idea, definitely going to try it. I was also thinking it might be fun to make a build that leans into the black blade lore and uses the black knife in the offhand for a faster weapon skill when you don't want to go all out with Destined Death. The requirements for the dagger will already be met in order to wield the Black Blade, and the faith scaling for the L2 should benefit some from the higher requirements for the Black Blade.
Love content like yours no here are the meta options and ignore everything else. Just the stats, pros and cons, tips, and personal recommendations leaving the viewers to decide for themselves
Godslayer's Greatsword does not share the deafault attack animation of other colossal swords. Most of the swords are almost dragged from ground to ground while Godslayer's attacks are performed after raising up the weapon.
Ok the infusion damage thing was by far the most helpful for me knowing which ones deal the most and that you can buff ur blade with the heavy infusion is really nice to know
One thing I wish the Starsocurge greatsword did is when you input the second part of its ash of war it would gravitate rocks to the sword just like Radahn when rocks are attached to his swords. When you do that the rocks give the greatswords and increase in damage and will stay on for maybe 3-5 minutes but it would also make your weapon swings a little bit slower. I hope you all like this idea.
You should definitely not build strength with the godslayers greatsword, it is a dex faith weapon, which is ideal for spell casting, because you do about the same damage 1 handed vs 2 handed and dex also boosts your cast speed
Hard agree! I actually swap between shield and seal in the off hand and it's a ton of fun! (Aka. how I learned to stop worrying and love the fat roll 😂)
Hey I just want to thank you since my main character uses malikeths black blade along with some of the incantations you mentioned and as a first time souls player hearing it be viable and seen as a good weapon brings me joy
Speeding directly to the Greatsword, rushing up the stats with Radagon‘s Soreseal has made for the most enjoyably easy time in the early to mid game since I dropped a Black Knight weapon for the first time.
You'll need to get an ash of war that does fire damage, or get the Red-Hot Whetblade from Redmane Castle in Caelid (when it's not holding the Radahn Festival - check the wiki).
Kinda of a shame almost all of the unique badass swords are more optimized and fun to use for NG+ runs which means you have to finish the game once or twice and put attribute points appropriately to simply even get them to be used at it's max potential and have fun with and i guess that's kinda the point. Though the triple stats requirement for some weapons really just sucks imho. No wonder non unique swords are more easier to use as they can be acquired rather early but can also carry you through out the entire game. Thank heavens the Greatsword isn't restrictive like the unique swords nor is it any weaker. Also please make one of these for curved greatswords.
Godslayer greatsword and seal are top tier together. I used them on my first play through and it was so fun. I used the black flame wave incantation (I forgot the name lol) and the fireball one along with the black flame buff. I’d use the wave for aoe and general mobs while using the fireball to start the flame proc before going in with the sword whiled buffed since in most cases yeah you will trade some damage if you don’t time it right. But this build carried me so far. The only reason I switched it up was bc of the dlc and I wanted to try the new weapons. Specifically wing stance lol
Love colossal swords! I play a strength build, and I am adding faith in NG+. Colossal swords are slow, but deal good damage. A jumping strong attack or a light attack triplet can finish most field enemies. Sprint light attack is also great. The goal is to always overwhelm the enemy until their poise breaks, so you won’t get hit much.
I don't really like heavy and slow weapons, but they are really interesting type of weapons and a direct homage to the Berserk manga. PS. I'm glad that Fromsoft found a word to describe this weapon type, and NOT just "Ultra Greatsword".
As someone who used black flame on my first run of Elden Ring, I'm pretty sure that the weapon art of the Godslayer's Greatsword is also buffed by the Godslayer's Casting Seal. And pumping faith really high also does increase the weapon art's damage quite a bit.
