I have suffered no end since been fitted with my ileostomy. I am due to have a pan PROCTOCOLECTOMY in the next few weeks too. I am lucky if I get 6hrs sleep a week I can’t sleep due to my pain levels and leaking bags. My bag fills with huge amounts of gas in very short time like 10minutes is draining it can be filled to bursting within 10mins and evidently I have a lot of bags explode on me when I sleep and of course this has made me house bound. I have lost count how many times I have died of embarrassment where my bag has just completely came of me in public. But mainly through the night so I wake up to devastation. This has increased my depression and anxiety no end and it’s only going to get worse. And yeah I have a wonderful Stoma nurse whom works with me but nothing is helping. I am due to try a FODMAP diet to try get a hold of the gas situation to see if it can help
You do not remove the bag and emptyIt would go straight to the trash. The pouch is opened to empty it. When cleaning around the stoma, put the gauze directly in the trash. Do not place it on the pts bed.
She said "I want help changing my colostomy bag"... as I understand it, a colostomy is to the left of the belly button. On the right side of the belly button is an ileostomy.
Location of stoma depends on what part of the colon was resected. D.A.T.S a colostomy: Descending colon=left upper abd Ascending colon=Right area abd Transverse colon=mid abd Sigmoid colon=left lower abd
