Ooh, okay, making the colors feminine seems easy enough, you just move the vowels over one letter to the right! Azraq- ZarqA; Ahmar-HamrA; Asfar-SafrA, etc. Thank you, Maha!

اعجبتيني يا مها الله يوفقك و يهديك .. شيء جميل تعلمين الاجانب لغتنا العربيه وهذا يدل على افتخارك بلغتك العربيه الجميله التي قال عنها الكثير من الغرب انها لغة فريده من نوعها وليس لها مثيل في قوة المفردات و تنوعها وتناغمها .

Maha FYI Ramad means ash and as you know the color of ashes is gray. and thats where Ramadee is derived from. thank you for your efforts to teach Arabic to people you're awesome. =)

I think رمادي (ramaadii) does mean ramaad-like because رماد (ramaad) means ash, which is grey. So grey in Arabic is translated as ashy!

HI Maha, great video. Just a little comment. For the color "Ramadee", it's the same as "Burtoqalee", because it refers to "Ramad" (which means Ash) as "Bortoqalee refers to "Bortoqal" (=oranges). That's it :) Keep up the good work! Salam!

Maha, I love your videos. I have some friends that are teaching me Arabic, and your videos are helping to supplement what they're showing me. One quick question, for the spelling of the feminine versions, are you adding taa marbuta to the end? Shukran jazeelan!
@yabyab
@yabyab 13 лет назад
Ramad means Ash!! Ramadee is an adjective to the noun Ramad (ash) so it's like "Ash-lee". So, Grey is the color of ash (ramad) so Ramadee.

Hi Maha! I've noted that you wrote BORTOQALEE but also BORTUQALEY, and RAMADEE but also RAMADEY. To become feminine, they need to mantein the "Y". In fact they are BORTUQALEYYA and RAMADEYYA.. but is it the same if I write BORTOQALEE or BORTUQALEY for example? Notice that I've not learned to write in Arabic letters yet! lol I promise I'll start to do this, but first I want to have a little fun in knowing some good amount of words. Thanks a lot and greetings from South Italy! :-)

Complimenti, tu sei incantevole e il modo in cui spieghi è accattivante (non è facile incollare allo schermo un 20enne italiano con una lezione d'arabo in inglese)... guardando questo video non ho potuto non notare similitudini col mio dialetto, tipo per dire arance noi diciamo burtugalli (sapevo della presenza di qualche costruzione araba nella mia città ma non credevo che alcune parole potessero sopravvivere (seppur modificandosi) in questo modo...

Ciao Maha! Volevo chiederti, i colori al femminile come vanno scritti? Voglio dire, con un alif maqsura, una ta marbuta o una normale? سودى oppure سودا oppure ancora سودة ? Grazie mille in anticipo, e complimenti per le tue lezioni, prima che cominciassi l'università sei stata la mia prima insegnante d'arabo, ed è anche merito tuo se mi ci sono appassionato! ^_^

@das81 The word you hear it said by the Islamic Mujahidins is "akbar" which means "great" OR "the Greatest", so when they say "Allah Akbar" it means "God is the greatest". Now, the word "green" in Arabic is "Akhdar"... you may be right that they look alike, but they are different. Please note that "k" = ك while "kh" = خ for Arab people. I hope my explanation was helpful, and thanks for your interest.
