Designed by John Browning and manufactured by Colt from 1903 to 1945, the 1903 Pocket Hammerless is a pretty little semi-automatic pistol chambered in .32 ACP. This particular weapon was made in 1913. We take a closer look and give it a good cleaning.

Great video. Took my Colt 32 hammerless to the range yesterday and had a nice time shooting it. It performed flawlessly. Your video helped me disassemble, clean, and reassemble it. Mine was manufactured in 1921. Keep making these very helpful videos.

Brad, very good video. Wasn’t expecting firing pin and spring flying across the room during cleaning. Most helpful reassembling the slide. Thank you

Your Dad did well with his buy of the displayed Colt Model 1903. That pistol, in that excellent condition, is a firearm to always keep. Many thanks for your video.

I just stumbled onto your video after looking for a video of anyone with a 32ACP French unique model 17 my grandfather left me one and no clue how to disassemble it for cleaning and replacing the firing pin but now i really want a colt 1903 after watching lol

Exceptional pistol at an unbelievable price. 👍An original set of grips and one magazine would cost almost as much as pop paid for the gun. Absolutely beautiful.

Just got my great grandmother’s 1903. It’s in pretty good condition. No rust, almost no pitting, only a few scratches, decently worn barrel but all in all it was a gun that was well loved both on and off the range

Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful with the disassembly and cleaning of my 1903 pistol. I inherited mine from my grandfather and it was made in 1925. I've shot it many times but this was my first cleaning of it. It's fun to shoot and has made a good trainer for teaching my son to shoot.

Thanks for the Vid - needed the help with cleaning up my Dad's 1903. Interesting point from a review I read, the original manufactured sears and hammers were all hand filed or stoned for trigger touch. It said that when US Armament Corp bought, measured and tested 100+ weapons to start remanufacture, they found that almost 100% of the guns drop fired. I'll try to update with a link to the review if I can find it. I thought that was a good "shooters beware" point. Otherwise, I've fired my Dad's 1903 and it is a sweet firing pistol.

Picked one up from a pawn shop today for $475 No rust or pitting but the slide has a heavy brown patina. The frame still has the majority of the bluing with just a few very light scratches. Im sure I will catch hell for it but i'm sending it to Colt to have it refinished. Manufacture date is 1921

As a boy i remember having a poster of a 1911 nickle plated version which included how to strip the gun down. I've always loved John Browning designed guns unfortunately here in the UK you need a licence for a sharpened pencil . One of the other guns i've alway been interested in is the 'Martini-Henry' rifle used by the British army first entering service in 1871 and used for about 30 years, its one of those (although there are many ) iconic guns.IIt's amazing that it's in that good condition especially the grips which tend to discolour over time and a fairly brittle I doubt its been fired much looking at the cleaning. Cheers Brad very enjoyable indeed i find these videos very relaxing, probably because i'm weird.

I know it's not the best gun to use for home self defense but that's all I have right now. For ammo what would you recommend?. I had always thought jacketed hollow points were best but I read because of the lack of power of the 32 round nose bullets are best. What is your opinion Thank you

Found one in the pawn shop across from where I work for $450. It’s nickel plated but it’s in bad shape. I looked up the serial # and it was made in 1920. I debated over the weekend and couldn’t get it off my mind. Went in at lunch on Monday and bought it. Now I’m debating about the nickel plate. I know some old nickel plate guns where the finish is in bad shape, you can do more damage trying to clean them. Any ideas would be welcomed.

Hi Bradley, Thanks so much for the detailed but easy to follow cleaning instructions! I just picked up a 1903 from a friend who owed me some money. I just checked out your channels posts and it turns out that we might be "brothers from different mothers"... LOL! I tend to call myself a "G-MAN" ( God, guns, guitars, & girls.) Ha! I do love to relax with a good smoke from either a pipe or cigar too! Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and I love your channel... God bless and take care... P.S.: new sub her my friend...

No they just said, “CAL. 32 COLT” on the mags bottom. Ive seen the original production mags selling for $300 and even some Ivorlite or ivorite however it is spelled sell for $600 and even the pistols mine made in 1913 sell in good condition for about $2,500.00. Thatvwas a Blued version ive seen the one you are holding there approaching that bracket though. It’s a great little piece but ammo for it is a bit pricy. I only use winchester superX though and being silver tipped might be the reason for the cost. Next purchase will have to be the Colt 1903 Pocket Hammer .38 because thats still a round you can buy and its the bigger boxy looking 1903.

Question: how do you tell if this gun is cocked and ready to fire? Since it's hammer is concealed and is not visible, how do you determine if the gun is cocked or not? Is there some kind of cocking indicator, like on one it's predecessors, Browning M1900?

From 1903-1911 they were all separate barrel bushing, the high polish blue was available from 1903-1912 or 1913, they discontinued it cause the military complained about enemies being able to see the light reflecting off the firearm thus giving away strategic positions

Hey Bradley, I missed your Q&A video, but I was wondering if you would ever do a video of tobacco reviews for people who have no idea what to smoke. i don't know if I would rather smoke a mild flavor or a bold, a sweet or a bitter, a flake or a ribbon or anything else. Could you help me out?

It's always tough to recommend tobaccos to people. You need to try a wide variety of blends to see what you like personally.

I acomplished this , it took me several weeks of trying to put it back together. It's my ccw now and it's priceless to me . And yes there are videos out there and you will need to watch all of them to get it right.

I read an article in which the author did a little research and testing, and basically said it really takes 2 shots to stop a person intending you harm no matter what caliber you use, so "big bore" doesn't get you any added protection in that regard. Not sure if I entirely buy that, I'm still a fan of larger calibers and consider the 9mm a minimum size and power, but since very few people can guarantee a totally disabling shot with any certainty it does make some sense. Of course none of that's related to the fun of going to a shooting range or popping tin cans and no doubt this gun would be a pleasure to shoot. :)

Probably a lot of these haven't had that many rounds through them. Most Of the ware would be on the outside. Mine is from 1920. The only problem I have with it is it'll sometimes double fire. It's not a true hammerless, it's got an internal Hammer, instead of an external one.I noticed on mine there's an indentation on the face of the hammer, from a hundred years of the hammer hitting the pin. I see no way to avoid that wear pattern happening.
