I've had the same Taurus revolver probably around 15 years or more but with a 6" barrel. I was using it when I was shooting in the bullseye competition league in my club. I was shooting handloaded 38spl, wadcutters. Long barrel, full underlug, not much recoil. I've also shot a few thousand rounds of 357 mag with it, no issues. I know a lot of shooters out there are complaining about Taurus quality issues, but, I own 2 revolvers and 2 pistols manufactured by Taurus and I never had any issues. And I'm old enough to know the difference between single and double action shooting and that wasn't double action, bwahahaha.

This actually was no surprise to me. Ive owned several 357 wheel guns, including the colt python, king cobra, S&W 357s, and the Taurus 357s, along with a sprinkling of comparable branded 38 specials. As far as performance, I learned a long time ago, there are comparative offerings to be had out there, that will shoot just as good or better than the python for a lot cheaper price, and your test proves that. Something a lot of people don't know is that back in the day, both Smith & Wesson and Taurus were owned by the same parent company and the parent company wanted a more affordable revolver to sell and tasked Taurus with partnering up with S&W to copy/build a revolver based on the S&W K-framed revolvers of the day, so the model-66 Taurus was actually based on the S&W model-66 revolvers.
@63DW89A
@63DW89A 3 года назад
There was no "partnering up" between S&W and Taurus. Back in the 80's and 90"s a British Investment firm owned stock in both S&W and Taurus. That was the extent of ownership; each company was independent. The Taurus 66 is NOT based on the S&W 66, which is a smaller 6-shot K-frame. The Taurus 66 is a 7 shot, medium frame larger than the S&W K frame; The Taurus 66 is closer to the S&W 686 Plus L-Frame(7-shot), or the Ruger GP 100 7 shot 357 Mag.
@SWMissouriOutdoors
@SWMissouriOutdoors 3 года назад
@@63DW89A I believe he is mistaken on the model, I have a Taurus 669 that you couldnt tell apart from a S&W, only difference is the hammer spring is a coil on one and a leaf on the other. The 669 was 6 shot.
@63DW89A
@63DW89A 3 года назад
@@SWMissouriOutdoors Taurus intentionally makes revolvers with similar external dimensions to S&W models. This makes it much easier to find holsters, speedloaders, etc to fit. While Taurus uses a DA mechanical system that functions like S&W, the internals on a Taurus revolver are different than S&W. The springs on Taurus are all coil around a post or strut, while S&W uses a variety of leaf and coil arrangements. For example, the S&W trigger return spring is a coil inside a sliding box which also actuates the hammer safety block. The Taurus trigger return is a simple coil around a post arrangement, and the transfer bar safety is actuated directly by the trigger. S&W blocks the hammer for a safety, while Taurus, like Ruger, uses a transfer bar to strike the firing pin. I'd say the S&W internals are a bit more elegant mechanically than Taurus, while the Taurus internals are simple, functional, tough, reliable and as easy to tune for best DA trigger action as S&W or Ruger. Always fascinating to see how different designers achieve the same function, each using their own unique methods!

@@63DW89A I know this is a late reply, but I just purchased a taurus 66 and trying to find out what holsters fit appropriately for the revolver, of course nothing is advertised as fitting a taurus 66 specifically. I'm looking for a chest holster rig to take along while rifle hunting.

Taurus has a lot of haters but I've owned 6 of their revolvers and never had any issues. The Tracker 357 mag with 6.5" barrel is one of my favorites. The model 44 in 44 mag with the 8 3/8" barrel is a winner too. Both accurate, the Tracker is surprisingly lightweight and thin for a big 7 shot stainless revolver. Paired with hardcast ammo they both make great woods guns.

My Model 66 shoots better than I can, and I'm not too bad. Sure, I would like to have a Python, I would also like to have a Korth, but with those prices, it's like the difference between a Patek Philippe, a Rolex, and a Timex. They all tell the time, but the first two do it in much better style, while the latter does the same job, but without all the fanfare, and flattening of your wallet! They're nice to dream about, but I can much better afford that Timex!

I own I own 6 Taurus revolvers and the one that cost me the most is the 942 magnum. Why many will ask simple I wanted it that bad and it was going for 600+ on gun broker. It is now my pantry basket gun lol. But I got a 66 Mag of Christmas and the trigger pull is smooth as butter. I actually like it better than my 608. With that being said. I sincerely hope i never have to use any of them to defend my home. That iron coming out the barrel sure will poison some one and let them lay down and behave.

I have owned Pythons, S&W 28s and 27s, Ruger Security Sixes and a few different Taurus revolvers over the years. The Colts, Smiths and Rugers were fine, reliable revolvers and there are a few I wish I still had. The Tauruses started appearing early in the 70s, and were, for the most part, abysmally built and some were downright terrible. I got to the point that I wouldn't even give a Taurus handgun a second look at my local gunstore. That changed in the last few years, however, and I have shot several of my friend's Taurus pistols and revolvers, even disassembling a few to check for internal quality and have been impressed. So much so, in fact, that my present EDC is a Taurus 605 2" stainless that has proven to be one of the best handling firearms I have ever owned. I have fired everything in it from super soft handloads for my wife to practice with all the way up to the Buffalo Bore 180 gr. hard cast .357 mag load with a gas check! That last load kicks like the proverbial mule, but it's what I carry with me when we go out to the woods here in Wyoming. Taurus has turned their company around in a big way, and I hope they are able to continue to give us Americans such good value for our hard-earned money!

randyadams03 I’m doing the same in east Tn, except with a 1-7/8” barrel S&W 360. I carried a model 85 Taurus for over a decade. 99% of the negative comments about Taurus pistols are people who’ve never had one and are just parroting back what they’ve heard or they had a first gen Millennium pro made around 2 decades ago. I had the first model of the millennium pro in .40 and I had light primer strikes constantly, never a FTF , just repeated light strikes on the primers. I traded it off for the model 85. I’ve owned quite a few since then and haven’t had issues with any of them. My 809c has 5,000+ rounds through it. Yes the trigger isn’t competition level, but it goes bang every time my booger hook pulls the bang switch

But it's built on a large 44 magnum frame, it's 10 ounces heavier, I use 38 Spec. +P+ HP's but due to the size I'd shoot any Magnum round, it's accurate and fun to shoot.

I must have missed the video where he claimed to be an expert on anything. I believe he is an enthusiast who enjoys shooting different types of guns and I find his videos very entertaining. I'm 72 years old and I have been shooting since I was in single digits. And one thing I know for an absolute fact is people misspeak from time to time. And remember what he says at the beginning of just about every video? This is going to be a fun video. So sit back and have fun. And no I don't know him have never met him.

I had a Python (stupidly sold it) and I can attest that there's no other wheel gun as accurate or smooth operating. Granted all gun prices have sky rocketed lately. But I attribute that to the devaluation of the dollar. Think of it as what used to be worth a dollar is now worth ten cents. It may be that the shooter's familiarity with the Taurus provided a better group. Having fired a Ruger .357 The action is not as smooth but accuracy is on par. I'd dare say it's closer to a Python but still by a wide margin.

Rewatched to carefully check every shot. Rewound in first group of 38s thinking I was crazy. I guess one lesson is once we shoot so much we are on auto pilot - either good or bad.

We’ll just call that a WTW “Double-Action” style. I’ll take the Taurus and a good supply of ammo (if I could find it) for the cost of the Colt.

Looking about 3 Taurus 66s for 1 Python. I really wanted a Smith 686 and I can’t swing that without trading in. Never really owned a revolver so I decided to get a Taurus 66 because of the adjustable sights and similar frame size just to see if it’s worth me buying a more expensive revolver. Still seems like a great riding gun/fishing gun

I would prefer a roundish group to a stringy one, that would put the hits much closer to point of aim, try this shoot 5 or 6 rounds with support, Mark the average impact point, and then mesure the total distance from AIP (add all mesurements) then multiply with the longest distance. That would give You a value to compare. 5 shots very well centred within. 5 inch and a flyer 2 inches away would give You a value of 9. Or 6 shots well centred 1 inch away would give you a 6 Which would You hunt with, the one with a pesky flyer from time to time, or one that are consistent 1 inch away from POA? BUT if You could find that chamber who gives the flier, leave that to the last shot, it would not be needed, but mark it.
