The number of Horse Video's , especially from a training perspective I've watched the last 15 year's, I enjoyed this one, its Top Shelf ,probably because the Young Lady is Just learning ,same as the Horse 🐎 Love to see follow up Video's in the future!!! Thank y'all!!!
What a cool video! I bet that experience will be one of her favorite memories of her life. I know it’d be one of mine! She should be super proud of the work she did. Chance came along great with her, and I loved seeing where they both started under your mentorship. Great work all around!
I think she should be proud of herself and Chance, they accomplished excellent work in very little time. Each horse owner has their own preferred way of training their horse and if this is what works for them then it works. Other people might prefer differently and that's up to them. Chance and the girl make a lovely team.
Really wish I had someone to go through this with me and my horse. I rescued two horses last summer from slaughter. I am pretty much on my own. Love watching this video.
A few scary moments for the horse and rider but what a perfect first 30 days to a horse! The rider handled everything with such grace and confidence! Now that’s how you start a horse! Great job!
Really nice! Like the music, too. It train Clydesdales to ride and drive, lots of initial pen-work. It always strikes me that while these light horses are wired a little hotter, conversely they also seem to respond more rapidly than the heavies.
This was a great overview video, I have a little yearling filly at the moment and i hope starting her under saddle goes half as well as it does for Chance and Cheyenne in the video!
Beautiful and Well Done. This is exactly how I would do it! (just kidding). Best horse training video I've seen n the internet. It proves you get more out of a gentle approach than you do chasing the horse around the pen with a lunging whip until they are near exhausted. the young lady did an excellent job and Gerry Cox really knows horses.
First - I wish I had a cool project like this when I was in high school! Second - I think this will be VERY helpful in 2020 when I start my youngster under saddle. Thank you for this Gerry!
Great video of a lovely journey for both horse and human. I'm about to break in my first colt, and although I've worked with horses my whole life, this is the first time it's my own horse I'm starting. I never stop learning :)
Really guys....Gerry did a great job and you all know it....the horse wasnt traumatized and she was saddled with care. which is the whole point of " breaking horses this days" For all those that make dumb comments get your own horse and post a video....and enlighten us with your knowledge.

Chance and the young girl have a very good connection. A pleasure to watch. She and her horse have accomplished in 30 days training what it has taken me forever to do!! Kudos to her Trainer, Gerry Cox! Was cantering along beside her meant to give her confidence?
What a lovely video. So nice to see their progress and that starting a horse (I personally dislike the term “breaking”) can be a gentle and compassionate process. Only suggestion I have is to include some form of suggestion to wear a helmet for safety.
I love this!!!! But my horse likes to buck and bite. I just got him and he hasn't been ridin in about 2 years I have been starting him small but i was wondering if you could give a strait through lesson on those kind of horses or give me a copple of tips. Thank you!
In a few days, a friend of mine will be getting a completely unstarted 4 year old arabian mare. We have to halterbreak her and everything, and we will be using a method silimar to this (she knows little about horses so I'll be supervising and acting as a trainer, similar to how you did in this video just a bit more hands on.)
I asked my mom for a 3 year old horse to train myself with some help of my instructor/mentor, so hopefully my mom will say yes and help me buy a horse to start and keep as my own.
wow...what an awesome opportunity...and this young lady seems a natural. Question for you Gerry......at around 8:56minutes she puts on the saddle. She used her knee to boost it...is that something you taught her??
How did she teach the horse to trot the first time? I can’t seem to get my filly to trot and I don’t have anyone to work her from the ground while I ride her

I may be getting a 2 y/o filly as a summer project. I was raised with horses but I only started riding a few years ago. I am 11 and I want to break my horse by myself, then my dad can help me a little.
+ponylover 36 thanks! Plans have changed. My trainer just had 2 foals born. I'm going to be training the colt while she trains the filly. I'm very excited as my mom says I can get Ollie after I train him. He is only a few days old though!
Haha looking at my comments a year later! I still haven't gotten a foal, hopefully it will happen soon. I've kind of realized I'm not completely ready to train a horse yet, my moms coworker agreed to a mentoring program that I can help her train. That starts in a few weeks.
The horse has shoes on day 3? How does that happen lol. Don't understand the teeter-totter and big blue ball either. Much respect to the girl it the horse was truly green before she started. One out of every ten or twenty horses get started this smooth. Lol
Kaleb Brooks I'm not sure how to respond other than you mis-identified any shoes on the colt, Day 3 or otherwise. As for the green colt, he was gentle enough by nature and had been haltered and trimmed and handled, just never taught anything... this young lady had no real horse experience other than riding a neighbors horse a few times many years before this event... As for the teeter-totter and blue ball, what is to understand??
Okay, sorry about that. I just noticed that you use the ball and teeter-totter in other videos, is that just something you use to build trust/respect? Some secret behind it.. never really seen it done before.
Kaleb Brooks I guess trust and confidence... A lot of horses are terrified to cross 'thing' or touch or push 'things'... our job is to convince them that me suggesting you try or do something is in your/our best interest..
I recently brought home a colt, a 3 yr old Appy actually. hes a great horse, very smart, very friendly. Started groundwork with him the day after I got him, things were going fantastic. Showing him how to stay out of my space, back up and lunge. He took a saddle no problem and I was able to get on him a few times. However, now we are having a problem when I ask him to go forward he kicks out. I pull his head around so he can't buck, but I don't know what to do. I don't know why he gets so angry. I need help.
Evy Diauto I think he's being testy to see what he can get away with because he still young. Youngsters will do that sometimes, but it could also be that his saddle is pinching him or that he has pain somewhere or could be because he's still a colt if you haven't gelded him yet. Have you thought of asking a local trainer to help you out with that one thing? Then maybe if they help you work that kink out you can continue to finish him by yourself.
I'm sure not there to see but my guess is he just doesn't understand what you are asking and is a little irritated or frustrated. get some one over to help you out that knows what they are doing
i thought when working a horse in a round pen, and ask them to come in or change directions, their always suppose to turn on the inside with their eyes not their butt????
