Josh Allen became QB1 in the 3rd quarter of game ONE! 2 Quarters, Peterman got benched and Allen took over. And the situation that Allen was drafted to was horrendous. Burrow very similarly was drafted to a bad team and had to take his lump’s early and often There’s no one fool proof way to develop a QB and some guys have an easier road than others ( Mahomes, Jackson)

I think it's okay to sit them early when they are experienced as passers like Mahomes (1349 pass attempts in college) and Jackson (1086 pass attempts). AR needs live game pass attempts because sitting does nothing in that regard (Trey Lance).

The Colts are at re-building stage 1: new HC, new QB, young WRs... Starting A-Rich is of course the right thing to do, since he has NO ONE to learn from, but Steichen and hundreds of hours of tapes. Let him learn by doing, as much as quickly as possible. Let them all grow together into true contenders over 2 or 3 seasons. As a Colts fan I gotta agree with Joy here, I wanna see what we potentially have for the future and what potential AR could have, not gonna get better sitting behind Minshew. How do you know he won't benefit from sitting behind Minshew for a little while? He's not gonna be idle if he's not starting. It will give him more time to work on mechanics, game film, the play book, etc. Name me one great QB who didn't benefit from sitting for a while? I understand what Acho and Bucky are trying to say, but I'm in complete agreement with Joy and Shady. They should start him. With a team this young and inexperienced, why not have that team gel around their 1st Round 4th overall pick. I understand you want to try to protect your guy, but at the same time experience is the best teacher. Yes wise men learn from others mistakes, but no man is perfect. Let this man grow. Let him develop his relationships. I think Kenny Pickett last year exemplifies both sides of this argument. 1st round pick, sat behind someone who shouldnt have been starting, and we watched his development through the rest of the year into the unquestioned starter of his team. But it was bad for his first few starts. But then he got it clicking. The experience from being thrown in gave him the ability to start really developing. Trey Lance was also a top 1st round pick, got protected and now they dont even want his hands on the ball and they barely had him on the field. His confidence isnt great right now, and hes been doijg nothing but sitting. Anthony Richardson seems like the perfect candidate to let him in, get reps, lead the team and see what he is. He's a raw but teachable player. I think starting is the best way to bring him in.

Joy is 100% right. Richardson was the 4th pick that in and of itself is something he can lean on. But Richardson has nobody he can learn from by sitting on the bench. The best thing they can do is start him. Having a new Head Coach who selected his QB means that this team is going to develop as fast as that QB/HC bond develops. Richardson has a lot of upside and i do believe a Jalen Hurts route is best for him but there is nobody there for him to be able to take that route. Im sure him and the HC both know its going to be a hard season with a lot of L's, they just need to power through it and see what happens. Its not a difficult division. Im not sold on Jacksonville, I dont see a scenario where my boy Hopkins makes the Titans a competitor Will Levis who i believe has the potential to be great wont be starting this year, and Houston will be one of the most improved teams in the league but by no means is able to compete for a Super Bowl. Richardson has a lot to prove and gain but i dont think starting this year will hurt him. It just comes down to how much can he learn and improve for his eventual second year.

Joy was on point and another thing, the type of talent physically he brings to the table as quarterback is unmatched from any other quarterback on any NFL team. Obviously the playbook would shift to cater to his strengths and weaknesses when he’s on the field. So he couldn’t learn to much from another quarterback on that roster because the play calling should/would be way diff given certain plays. This goes for the 3rd and 3’s and the 2nd and 10. His scrambling ability maybe could pick you up 7 or 8 yards on second opposed to a medium route combination play that could end up as a sack or fumble with a less mobile qb

Prior to the 1978 NFL Draft, some NFL scouts suggested that since University of Washington quarterback Warren Moon had played in a rollout rather than a drop-back passing offense, he would be a mid-round pick. Others speculated that since only one African American quarterback, James Harris, had achieved any measurable success in the NFL, Moon would have to play some other position. Regardless of which misguided reason motivated NFL scouts, Moon remained confident of his abilities and opted to sign with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. He went on to lead the Eskimos to an unprecedented five consecutive Grey Cup victories. Eventually, Moon returned to the United States to play for the Houston Oilers in 1984. He racked up nearly 50,000 passing yards in 17 NFL seasons. Moon set a new club record with 3,338 yards passing in his first year with the Houston, a mark he would break four more times. In 1986, when the Oilers installed the run-and-shoot offense, Moon's quarterback skills finally became apparent to all. The wide-open offense showcased Moon's strong arm, running skills, and big-play ability. In 1990, Moon led the league with 4,689 passing yards. He also led the league in attempts (584), completions (362), and touchdowns (33), and tied Dan Marino's record with nine 300-yard games in a season. The following year, he again led the league in passing yards 4,690. At the same time, he joined Hall of Fame quarterbacks Dan Marino and Dan Fouts as the only quarterbacks to post back-to-back 4,000-yard seasons. Moon also established new NFL records that season with 655 attempts and 404 completions. Moon was traded to the Minnesota Vikings before the 1994 season. In his debut season he passed for 4,264 yards and led the team to the playoffs. In his second season in Minnesota, he again passed for more than 4,200 yards. Moon moved on to the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent in 1997 where the veteran star set franchise records for completions (313) and yards passing (3,678) and earned his ninth Pro Bowl selection. Injuries limited his play in 1998. In 1999, Moon joined the Kansas City Chiefs and spent two seasons as a backup there before retiring. Despite spending his first six professional seasons in the CFL, Moon ranked third all-time in NFL passing yardage and fourth in touchdown passes thrown at the time of his retirement. There has been a lot of great QB's not given a chance right away cause they didnt fit the normal mold. You have plenty of good QB's start right away and has done good in a year or two. Quit reading a script and speak your own minds you guys have been there and lived it.

@@anthonyslazas6413 but this is what can happen when you put a rookie QB who by all accounts needs to work on his game to start right away. You have more failures of QBs who started right away vs the others who waited a few games.

@@NPAMike with the way the game has changed it isn't as big of a concern. You could body slam a QB back in the day with no penalty, now if you touch their helmet too hard you could be looking at a 15 yard penalty.

Rooting for AR, but I don't see why he was named the starter after his 1st preseason game. It wasn't a great performance. I like what Shady said about Andy Reid's approach. Let a young qb develop and learn the off field aspects first then let him ease on the field.

Joy’s take is excellent on this one. Acho really just be talking to talk sometimes. Guys like Peyton, Burrow, Cam, Luck & I can go on started week 1 & some of them took their lumps but they ended up just fine. U gotta actually play to learn. Even Peyton said that. U not gonna understand the speed of the game not getting reps on the field

I think the fundamental difference is those guys were all time great college players and had crazy confidence. They had a lot more experience and were all heisman trophy winners or finalist. If AR had the confidence to fall down and keep getting up then play him. From what i saw from him at Florida, I think he had a tendency to hang his head and get frustrated. If that happens here, he won’t recover from it.

Joi Taylor is completely wrong. The investment in AR5 is for more than 1 season. Let the man sit and learn for atleast half the season preferably the whole season. He only has 1 year of college as a starter, 1 year as a starter in high school, this is ridiculous that they’re throwing him to the wolves. It would be different if they were a qb away meaning they have talent in key spots on offense but the don’t. Awful take by Joi Taylor
