At Columbia South Carolina are these amazing columns on the First Baptist Church. These columns are constructed in a manner that seems almost impossible at the time they are said to have been built during the 1800s. Just the bricks themselves have to be made with a perfect curved edge and all the columns are identical. At first glance this doesn't seem to be a big deal, but take a closer look and see what you think!
Whoever built them would have had to be at a minimum as skilled as these I found in this video at a time of minimal population, or so it's said...
• Impressively skilled b...
In the video comments, lifelong construction experts say they are the most skilled they've seen. All the old world grand buildings had to be at the least like these guys. Watch at 7 min in also.

Not only do th bricks have to be positioned perfectly, even the mortar has to be dressed and set perfectly in this situation

The number of these buildings which existed supposedly congruent to a hard scrabble existence in an underpopulated land, is ridiculous on its face. Every single immigrant must have been a master craftsman in all disciplines. The subtle but necessary curvature of those bricks would be a challenge today with all technology available.

Definitely master craftsmen. Modern day lifelong brick layers of 30 years or more admit they can't do many of the old world designs.

Amazing! Your right, they are like the massive industrial smoke stacks of the old world, yet columns. Thanks, hadn’t seen that before with red brick.

great work!!! people should really think about places like Egypt when seeing this. there are red brick structures all over the place but UNDER the sand. specific brick compositions have been shown to be highly conductive

Seems to be in an unfinished state. Many pillars were made in this fashion and you can usually spot them with chipped plaster coatings . Its like at some point it was removed? Or just never finished? Like it was found this way and repurposed into a church . I think that the people that built these places were active right up until the early 1800s and possibly later in many parts . They were skilled builders with brick and very skilled farmers .

Not yet but plan to. Did do Ellinwood for an upcoming video. Actually all of the towns have the same underground... just most aren't so easily accessible.

Not even close to being old world. Old world would have those morter lines perfect. As you filmed upwards the wacky drunk lines clearly prove modern lazy uncraftmanship
