I was Kelly’s age when Columbine happened. In these last 25 years, I never actually learned any of the victims’ stories, until recently, when the 25th anniversary happened. Sometimes, the passing of time gives us a different perspective. Out of all their stories, out of all their faces, Kelly Fleming’s affected me the most, more than any of them. It hit me the hardest; something about her being my age, seeing her bright personality shine through her photogenic smile. Maybe it was the fact that we were peers, or perhaps it was that we shared a lot of the same interests. It is remarkable, how someone’s life, no matter how short, can positively affect the lives of others despite having never met. There is no doubt in my mind that Kelly is now with our Lord Jesus Christ, and from his Kingdom she watches over her dear family. I’ve never known these folks, but my prayers are with the Fleming family and all those who lost their precious loved ones that dreadful day. As with all of them, Kelly’s untimely death may have come during an act of senseless cruelty, but her death was not in vain, not at all. She has touched more souls around the world in her brief time here than most people ever will in a lifetime. God bless and keep the Fleming family, you will forever have our prayers, and we will always honour your daughter. Memory Eternal. ✝️🙏
