That THING, that so-called "dive bomber" the video shows being wheeled out, is NOT a dive bomber. The Curtiss company was building the SB2C Helldiver at the time. THAT thing they showed at the beginning of the video was a SEAMEW, and that one was on wheels. Most of them were on floats. CURTISS COULD NOT DESIGN!!!! The Seamew was a HORRIBLE airplane!!! And the SB2C was referred to as the "Sone of a Bitch, Second Class," by the men unfortunately enough to fly it. CURTISS was TERRIBLE!!
Thanks go to those who worked in the factories but, in this case at least, the aircraft they were consructing was a pile of the proverbial! Watched another documentary, HUSH KINS, I think it was, where it stated that a WW1 aeroplane, SE5a, was faster than it! It was difficult to fly, pilots hated it, and was in no way fit for purpose!
