PANZERDEAL - I’m a new fan too, just discovered this show last July, 2012 and also how to use a computer and RU-vid to watch them. I was born in 1959, grew up without a TV/phone, etc. I’m just loving it, finished watching all of season 1, 2, & 3, now I’m starting season 4. I have my list of 10 top favorites and 10 least favorites and just started a new list of ones that are cute/entertaining. All the same I do love them all. My son refers to me as being to Amish. (and nuts.)
I was born 1957 and I grew up watching this show as well as The Rifleman, Rat Patrol and Mchales Navy on the weekends with my dad and family. My dad was in WW2 Pacific and my Uncles were in WW2 Germany.
I see Jack Warden told the Sarge they were supposed to be transferred to Army Special Services...I looked it up he would have an MOS of 03B Entertainment Specialist.. other famous people were Sammy Davis jr. that served there as well.
I love the show, but someone should watch them all and see how many purple hearts these guys won. Someone is always getting wounded. Still great show and in many ways more realistic then new shows today.
You mentioned a point I've been remarking: the war fights, land, air or sea, presented on current war movies are digitally produced, which means "artificial". That's why I definitely don't watch war movies nowadays, except the old ones. I understand it's a matter of budget. But it's also a matter of realism of scene, and one thing must not spoil the other.
