If your Combi Boiler is high, what causes it and how to return it to normal pressure.

Brilliant thank you. I overfilled by accidentally leaving the refill valve open ever so slightly for about an hour or so. Pressure was at 3 bars. Good think I checked otherwise it would have gone to 4 bars and probably blown up! Anyway, I followed your instructions and now pressure is at 1 5 bar. However, it took ages - literally about 2 hours and it must have been about 50 or more kitchen washing-up size bowls of water - no exaggeration. I kept filling the bowl then emptying it down the toilet then refilling the bowl I thought tbe pressure would never reduce to 1.5 but eventually after about 2 hours it finally did!
@dereton33
@dereton33 6 месяцев назад
Had it reached a bit more pressure the safety valve would have blown taking the water away outside.

Just sorted my tote and noticed I've misplaced/lost by flexi braided, filling loop hose. Householders take them off and lose them. I always tell folk to store' em on top of their boiler. Lots of newer boilers have those pre-fitted, preformed copper loop connectors, neatly tucked away directly beneath the boiler case where it's harder to accidentally knock and open them. Again, they're not supposed to leave them on. Some folk take them off aaaaaaaaaaand....... lose them. Ever tried getting a spare preformed copper filling loop for an Ideal Logic on a Sunday afternoon? Like rocking horse poo. Oh, and I always carry spare 10mm fibre washers especially for them.

So in case of high pressure: expansion vessel faulty, filling loop open or valves letting by or safety valve malfunctioning right. But the safety valve (3 bar PRV) should only work if the expansion vessel is faulty and does not contain the expansion right? Actually I read the comments and another cause is plate heat exchanger broken with pin holes between the ch side and hw side which would act as continuously open filling loop that you can't see but would take the pressure to over 3bar causing the PRV to release excess pressure. Any other causes so far?
@dereton33

Hi. First of all thanks for the video. Our Ideal boiler does have those two taps and I have used them in the past to top up the boiler. Problem I’m having now is that turning both of those taps ON but can’t hear any water flowing. And in turn it’s not topping up the boiler pressure. Anything I can check for please?
@dereton33

Disconnect the filler hose and check if the tap is working

Love your video... I have a question, I see plenty of videos on how to increase the pressure, I also know how to decrease the pressure but... my boiler keeps increasing in pressure by 0.1bar every 48 hours. Also if I was to try and increase the pressure through the link / fill hose connector it takes about 5 minutes to increase the psi by 0.1 bar. Have you an idea of what is going on. Gloworm Ultracom CX. Cheers.
@dereton33
@dereton33 10 месяцев назад
You must have a faulty infill valve that is not working correctly. Disconnect the filling loop to see if that stops the pressure rising. That is if you have one.
@camping_guru_uk
@camping_guru_uk 10 месяцев назад
@@dereton33 wow, thank you for such a fast reply. Yes I have a full loop connected all the time. I didn't think it could be that as both valves on either end of the fill loop would have to be faulty. Anyway, I'll take the loop off and see what happens. Again thank you so much.

@@camping_guru_uk Seems we have a very similar boiler but a identical issue. Our plumber found expansion vessel to be faulty but has fixed this but problem persists. He said filling loop isn't causing issue as it's closed but hasn't tried disconnecting it, didn't know you could do that? Would love to hear how you got on.
@camping_guru_uk

@dereton33

Be careful not to knock a filling valve on. If you have no loop though with valves, you can buy a kit and have it fitted.

Here's an addition to your over pressure issue I recently had issues with my own boiler(yes I am qualified 30 years) I'm more industrial/commercial so bear with me , boiler went over pressure so I assumed it was the Expansion vessel, fitted new one ,still over pressure finally traced the fault to the dhw plate hear exchanger leaking from the incoming hot water mains supply through to the heating side , every days a school day 😅

To check the expansion vessel depress the shreider valve if air comes out great if water comes out change it. Most expansion vessels have the pressure on the label so check pressure.
