It's been a busy week on the farm! We started combining our corn and the workshop project continues as we work to try and get things closed in before winter sets in.
Also the guys are in a bit of a disagreement about the overhead doors that will be in the shop. Let us know what you would do.
Thanks for watching!

Hi Kevin, I am an Overhead Door technician for over 15 years. You definitely need a spring conversion with high lift drums on each end for your cables to run properly on. If you don’t you run the risk of your door being too hot opening and too heavy closing. Wear out your operator without the proper kit or you’ll cause your door to come out the back of your top tracks if you don’t have pusher springs or stops installed at the back at the top track. I would never give you misguided information. I cannot stress enough. You need the proper springs and drums , also you need to make sure you wrap the proper amount of cable on your drum before you start winding all your stored in your spring. If you can give me the measurement from centreline of head shaft to floor, I can do the calculation of how much cable you need wrapped around the drum. From bottom bracket to notch on drum

Door solution Ethan is right on the math, but you could use a counter weight to lighten the weight, cable pulleys and counter weight.
@larrygeran6964
@larrygeran6964 19 часов назад
On a bifold door yes you’d use a counterweight, but not on a sectional rolling
@larrygeran6964
@larrygeran6964 18 часов назад
Do you know that saying some people have more money than brains and also why would you want a counterweight taking up space the whole idea with high lift is to get everything up out of the way. I have never in my life seen a sectional door set up that way, and like you said there are some pretty shady installations out there!

The tapered part of the drums is to allow for the vertical weight of the door. Once the door starts travelling into the top tracks, that’s when the cable starts running on the non-tapered part of the drum.

Around the 8:47-8:52 mark, it looked like a mouse was running back-and-forth on the top of the heater. But it turned out to be the very top of Sidney's head as he was walking back and forth behind the heater. Be careful with the overhead door springs and cable. I have seen springs and cables bust, and it can create a lot of damage, not to mention injury or death if a person is too close to the action.

This is what i got from the great door spring debate. The best part was everyone expressing and being able to express their own opinion. I would have sided with Kevin. See and try what may work with what you have and do not waste money when you have the time. If it does not work spend the money and do it right :). After seeing the comment by the door tech with 15 yrs experience I would have gone with that. You really need experience to work on doors. It is easy to get hurt if not extra carful. Looking forward to the next video showing the solution. Oh and Ronda, your videos are never boring and adding the danger aspect is just icing on the cake. Thanks

Love Michigan! Was just there this past summer! Family reunion and my best buddy from college near Lansing! I agree I like to do things right the 1st. But sometimes it’s more important to get it done fast and then when there’s more time get it done right. Of course there’s never enough time so sometimes you get stuck with a permanent quick fix. It’s frustrating for sure. Good luck! And God bless AOClay!❤

I had to chuckle when Ethan grabbed a handful of corn to snack on when he was unloading the combine. We've had 4 days of frost this week, with the first day getting down to 29. Will you be over wintering any root vegetables in the garden? I'm making a beef variation of your chicken noodle casserole today. My holiday baking is 3/4 of the way done, so I'll be slowing down a bit now. Blessings to the family, stay safe

The door sring you have now works on the fact that it is requiring less pound lift as the door goes onto the top rails, the rails lighten the required lift loed factored into the spring and number of winds. Takes alot of spring to go straight up 8 feet or so before turning. Thank for the time and fun and keep on pushing forward 💪!!

Great video, Rhonda! You have to love the look on "the lawnmower" when she knew she was busted, and then sauntering off like she hadn't been seen. Kevin would do well to pay attention to suggestions, especially when Sidney had researched the project. Dad isn't always right, and the kids aren't always wrong. It would be prudent for Kevin to step back on this one, and if it works it saves a redo. If it doesn't work, (I think it will) it's really not any different from other projects that have been redone.

Awesome video. Kevin, I think your son is correct about needing a different spring for the overhead door. It makes perfect sense to me. But my question is about the music that was playing when the combine was in action. What was the name of the song and who was it made by?? It was very relaxing and very nice to listen to. I went back to that part of the video about 5 times. In fact when I am done sending this to y'all I will listen to it again! Thanks for your time and stay safe always!

Have y'all considered making the doors swing outward,which gives you the opening and if modified can be used as awning/covering once opened out with legs that lock in place. Repelling snow and rain may come in handy and if some type of equipment juts out,you have it covered. Dual purpose doors ( Tarps attached as needed for closure). TOTB (Thinking outside the box). In southern Louisiana,the citizens call ourselves "Cajuns"- short for Canadian Acadians. We have a tendency to Cajunize projects to fit our needs . Oh,by the way,what ever is the length of door opened out & up gives you some extra length for projects,also comes in hand during the summer for shade purposes. What ever you do with those doors is a win - win in my book. Doyle * Study my suggestion if it will benefit you,if not that's ok too. Sometimes when you do something way different than the norm, you have created a new method/purpose. PS, that blows peoples minds, I didn't know you could do that. HERE IT IS ! God didn't just give us a head/brain just to hang a hat on it !
