I was 14 in 1972 when I first heard this hauntingly beautiful melody. It took a while to understand it. It still stirs up emotions and gives me chills.
I was 14 in 1972 but I discovered this melody when I I was 20+. Fullish was our Soviet government to ban all of the Western rock culture. If they understood and allowed to translate some of the antiwar lyrics ... You probably do not know our Soviet antiwar songs. Here is the one. Just feel the pain of the people of country that have lost 26 000 of its sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters of more than 100 nations and many religions . Almost every family here have suffered . The vidio of 1974 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TGyvj6Tnj7M.html

What a band Uriah Heep was. What a Voice, David Byron. What a time, end 60s. I was born in Russia, and discovered this song first time when I was 16. Since then-and untill now- my love, love to Uriah Heep.
I got so bored 1 day of listening to Zeppelin and Pink Floyd (don't get me wrong but sometimes you want to hear something "new") and i was browsing through Spotify and played some Uriah Heep songs and I was blown away. I didn't know much about them before that, only a few songs like July Morning or Lady in Black but this music ...wow it's my new favorite band.
URIAH HEEP BRITISH LEGENDS Most talented & original group of the 1970s in my view by far. David Byron great vocalist Born in 1947 Epping Essex & lived in Chingford. And sadly died so young in 1985
@@karlreimers No !!! I don' t think so ! I'm thinking, it's your self opinion only ! Though.., you have a rool to have such opinion... But my own opinion is, that John Lawton was the great too for the Mark 2. But for the Mark 2 only. And then, Bernie Show is not so bad too. But.., to our common sadness, nobody can't pull off David of Heaven...
I came across this with an old record and found it an extremeley moving song, especially in these times. Supported by the video, I consider this an almost epic statement.
Their rock and vocals have been in my head since my college days 50 years ago. Took my girlfriend to the show. She's sitting opposite me now, and remembers the night. March 1st St.. David's Day, Denbighshire Tecnical Coolege, now Glyndwr University, Wrexham, Wales. Also heard of them in the Blue Notes, Pittsburgh, when working around there for a few weeks, about 2010. Great sound!
David byron foi a própria alma do rock nos anos 70 .vocalista por excelência. Sem falar dos outros membros da banda que também foram e os remanescentes ainda sao a expressão do rock clássico. Com certeza estao entre os melhores da historia do rock.
At this time my 6 years old sister and me with 10 where sitting and listening this song when my dad just went to the bus station and left our family....!!
I first heard Heep on WORJ RADIO FREE FLORIDA in 1970. Still one of my top 3 all time. This video absolutely captures the essence of the song.David Byron was brilliant. A great trip back to better days.
Ich bin jetzt 57 und immer lerne ich neue Musik von damals kennen. Mit Uriah Heep bin ich quasi aufgewachsen, aber diesen tollen Titel kannte ich noch nicht. Hello Hooray.
Really underated band ( not by me)There was so many great bands playing great music and great concerts What a great time to be around .Mick Box for me is the king of wah wah on salsbury and look at yourself great albums I was playing a couple of days ago.
Song and voice is so deep and haunting you can close your eyes and be carried away. Uriah Heep at that time and period were at there most creative and spiritual. Post hippie and prog/metal pioneers of what was to come NWOBHM.
The best years of my life was living 1969-1973 in Berlin, Germany. I was able to attend the biggest rock concerts at the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin. Uriah Heep was one of the all-time greatest concerts in my memory.
Yes, Yes, Wonderful Song, Great Group! Before my comments are lost in the mix of 500+ - 1. Why hasn't anyone else clicked the like Symbol? 2. There were lots of Great Groups back then, an era never to be repeated - Fudge, Zep, Purple, Crimson, Santanna, Sabbath, Harum, Free, Crow, Chicago, Butterfield, Traffic, Floyd, ELP, etc. etc. etc. ...! How can you compare when You're 8 Miles High?!!! 3. The fabulous video - why no comments? Saving Private Ryan for War - well OK, so so.But the Father Daughter sans Mother relationship given by Hanna with the beautiful Saoirse Ronan (The Host, Byzantium anyone?) and the incredible Eric Bana, a stroke of genius (5 stars!)!
I would like to thank you for the song and the great video -which is from a film I can't remember. This was the first song I'd heard from Uriah Heep and I think D. Byron was a exceptional singer. Too bad he left so early !
Wonderful song, when i heard it the first time i was 15 how many remembrances of youth, few problems and first love but overall Beautiful years 70-80 yes!!!
Impressive, a timeless song. This was my first record I heard of U.H. an since then a die hard fan of David Byron + ( The best front man of all times). The bass player in this one is Paul Newton from The Gods, after him came the genius Gary Thain +. An also UFO has a song come away Melinda!.
just an outstanding vocal from david byron iam so glad that i found your music and heard your voice its so wonderful, when iam down your voice lifts me up.R.I.p david rock in heaven from shaz in uk.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. I lived in Germany at the time. Reminds me of the Irish Revolution. i used listen to the wives calling in everyday about losses. Sad, but beautiful!
I remember this song as a pre-adolescent. A boy gave an 8-track tape of this album to me. (dating myself severely, I know). He died a few years later. I still think of him when I hear this song. Sad.
I've missed many or all uriah heep activities cos I was born 23 yrs ago. but I know uriah heep from their tapes that is still stored by my family (Grandfather & Father & Uncle's) and still can be played untill present day, and if the members of uriah heep is still exist on these day, I hope they will return and make reunion so the fans can see them.
When Uriah Heep came to Russia for the first time with the concerts I couldn't be present there and didn't know the guys then/ It was in the late 80s, as I remember. But one of my friends did go and said it was superb.
