The hype at ikea is about the PRICES. Most people don’t know that if you want to avoid the “maze-like” feeling, just go downstairs to where all those items are stored and shop. (In and around the kitchen items sections.) you don’t have to shop in the showroom at all if you don’t want. And yes, it is overwhelming, and you can get lost in there and easily spend an entire day just looking at everything. The lighting also doesn’t help. I’ve found that HomeGoods, tj MAXX and Marshall’s have similar prices , they just don’t have as much in bulk or for small living spaces as ikea. Remember; ikea started in Europe. It’s a brand that came about to help people with low pocket money, and small spaces. European homes are traditionally small. Thus people living in big cities such as Manhattan and small apartments (or dorm rooms) can benefit from places like ikea. IKEA is a whole vibe. Either you love it, or you hate it.

Something I learned the hard way that seems stupid is that you should assemble like small or medium pieces of furniture before arrival/ moving in. It takes up space but you will not have space to build it in the dorm especially if you have a roomate

I like ikea but have to emotionally prepared …also if you look closely there’s door ways so you can skip parts of main floor if you even do up there I prefer the marketplace where you wan just grab things
