I am greatly impressed that Tantara Records, the copyright owners of this video (located on BYU campus) are alright with the video being posted. I would recommend everyone buy the DVD. It has some great music on it.
Available at www.TantaraRecords.com The BYU Combined Choruses sing "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" arranged by Mack Wilberg from the album "A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns" (© Tantara Records). I would encourage everyone to buy the DVD or CD, even if just for this song. You can get them at www.TantaraRecords.com

I was born a Baptist and raised a Baptist. My great-uncle was an outstanding Baptist minister and a very good man. He wanted me to be a minister and attend Southern Baptist University. It is time we loved each other as Christ asked us to. Put away hate, rankor, callousness, and replace it with charity, kind words, peace, love and understanding. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over 34 years ago and have never regretted that decision. I have a testimony.

I have been in Baptist church music as vocalist, pianist and organist for over 60 years and have never, ever heard a more beautiful or worshipful arrangement of this lovely old hymn. I've listened to it numerous times and it still brings me to tears and makes me worship. So uplifting. It's just incredible ! The tempo, orchestral accompaniment and arrangement are perfect. The arranger Mack Wilburg has earned himself numerous crowns to lay at the feet of Jesus in Heaven. WOW ! Gorgeous!

Interesting. I lost a close friend to a motorcycle accident at a way too young age. This was one of his favorite hymns and they played it at his service. I listen to it periodically and it brings his memory up. But it's more than that too. There's a patience and exalting feel to this song to where I feel almost in total reverie when I listen to it. The original composition is as perfect a song that exists. This arrangement somehow lifts it even higher. When I'm carried away by this song I think of how blessed I am and how wonderful the earth and the life that dwells in it is. We're all so fortunate to have this song in our lives.

Mary - I understand. My husband passed away eleven years ago. I feel him with me with music. We loved music & dancing. He would have loved this performance. My best friend is Morman. We grew up Presbyterians & sing this hymn often - this way. We joined the United Methodist Church, because of pressure from friends, and so many hymns are sung differently.

I am a admittedly teenager, part of the generation that takes these kinds of music for granted. But in all my years of going to Church and listening to hymns of worship since childhood, I have never heard a more magical song that inspires and uplifts my heart in so many ways. I'm sure there are other people who feels this way and now, I just wish I could have paid more attention to Church and had more chances of listening to these songs. This is an amazing rendition, just absolutely lovely.

He brought my musical training at BYU to the next level. I was shown this video in a philosophy class at Ricks college in 1999 during a discussion of aesthetics. It was so impactful to me personally, but it has also had a tremendous impact on the style of choir in the Church as a whole in promoting Mack Wilberg and his influence. I have wanted to ask someone who was there performing or in the audience what it was like. Was it obvious from the power of this performance the impact it would have? I’m not exaggerating, if I could time travel this would be high on the list for me as a moment to experience.

I have to say that I do not believe in the Book of Mormon at all, but if you are not moved by this then you just don't have a soul. People, stop arguing theology because no one is going to read your comment and then change their entire outlook on life anyway. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy this master piece of beauty. If you were in this choir or orchestra and you are reading this, my God that was amazing! Thank you so much for your hard work in doing that.

Stanza three seems to be a forecast of his later life, when he lapsed into sin. There is a well-known story of Robinson, riding a stagecoach with a lady who was deeply engrossed in a hymnbook. Seeking to encourage him, she asked him what he thought of the hymn she was humming. Robinson burst into tears and said, "Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then."

@DanielBrowne-dz7we

The term “Mormon” has lately been clarified to refer strictly to an ancient prophet by that name and to the book of scripture he abridged. Consequently, there is no such thing as “Mormon music”, “Mormons”, “Mormon Church”, and so on. The people who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are now known not by the retired nickname, but as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It may be a mouthful, but it’s accurate.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love. Here I raise my Ebenezer; Here by Thy great help I’ve come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood; PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE. O to grace how great a debtor Daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee. PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.

OK, most people are going to say, "you can get back up, keep on trucking", but they can't have empathy for something of that level. Not a day goes by that I don't consider suicide and how the world was created, in my own words "Damned are those who think". My words are, Jesus didn't die for us to keep beating on ourselves, when he lived he was completely human and God, knew the temptations and had emotions. Because of this connection, he knows everything, and he died to save the world from death

Many have written about the young lady in the choir overwhelmed in tears, I have had the same experience while singing in a choir. Make no mistake, Come Thou Fount tells a powerful story of salvation through Christ Jesus. Most of those moved by it believe in Jesus and will belong to Him forever. Most of those not moved by it don't understand Jesus and probably never will. I am not a Mormon, I do not agree with most of their presuppositions; but I will say Amen to this recording.

If anyone ever has doubts about the Latter-day Saints' Christianity, all they need to do is observe the young sister at 5:14 The tear she sheds for the Christ shows how firm a foundation she has planted as a testimony in The LORD.

"Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above." My Lord, My God... this IS my daily cry, my daily plea... Do for me my Lord, that which Can Not do for myself!!!

This song's lyrics is set to the tune of "Fantasia on Nettelton" which is an old New England Folk Hymn. I played the song in a flute trio for Solo and Ensemble back during my middle school years. Back then, the song had no real meaning to me other than the fact that I was captivated by it's beauty while playing it. Now that I'm a Mormon, it has so much a deeper meaning after getting acquainted with this counterpart. It's by far my favorite song to play on flute!

The lyrics of this song present the wonderful Gospel, and in a beautiful manner. This is not the place to debate LDS theology. Enjoy the song.

@GRANTEDREPENTANCE. I agree with you. me too am a born again christian and this version of the hymn is OUTSTANDING. Beautiful. "...prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God i love...". How we need HIS Grace all the time. Be blessed.

I am not LDS.... Im not of any faith as it happens but that apart, I love this hymn tune arranged by Mack Wilberg. You don't need to be of faith to admire wonderful music and words even if it has a religious base - you just need to be a person who cares for other human beings and who believes in something. Simple really.

I've been inactive for many years. This hymn makes me really miss the Church. From the worldy spot I'm presently in, I can easily discern pure majesty when I hear it; every time I check in with this hymn, I am amazed how I am struck by it like the first time. One of these days, one of these days...

I must watch this at least once every few months; our local PBS station broadcast it many years ago and it has never, ever failed to move me, often to tears. For me, this performance confirms that God exists, He loves us beyond all human understanding, and He grants us many wonderful gifts to help each other and bring us all to Him. O, to Grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be, indeed!

My choir along with the rest of my school's district's choirs sand this in a concert less than an hour ago. I'm sad to say that we somewhat butchered the piece. As a soprano 1 (the highest part in a SATB choir) in an audition-based district, I can honestly tell you that the last note of the song resembled the pitch of death. I'm only in a high school choir, so of course the higher notes wont sound so professional, but I'm still disappointed at the level of mistakes we managed in this beautiful piece. There was no real need to post this, but I needed it off my chest.

Please don't feel bad. I'm sure you did the best you could, and that the Lord heard what was in your heart. If there is any fault, it lies with your director, because there are a whole bunch of arrangements of this song, and obviously he or she didn't pick the right one to match your choir.
@BASavage81

+Anthony Dawson I just read your comment. I didn't sing in high school chorus nor in college. I'm sure your choir did the best they could. I'm sure your audience felt the meaning of the song and that's what matters. Now about this chorus. This chorus and orchestra is noted as one of the best college choirs and orchestra's in the world and have people who could have attended Julliard and other major music institutions. (I know this because I was once very close to a young woman who sang in this choir and she told me about her and some of the other students and mentors stories.) And when you're in High School your still young and your voices haven't had the training nor the physical maturity to sing like this. We in the Mormon Church have an inspired saying about music, sort of a proverb. "The song of the righteous is a prayer unto me and shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads." Combine that with the words of a popular song when I was young made famous by the great Karen Carpenter "Dont' worry that its not good enough for anyone else to hear. Just sing! Sing a song!" Keep practicing and singing and you will be blessed and all of those who hear you will be blessed too.

We don't always appreciate these things at first - I didn't. But in the end, it is just as Scripture says - it produces character and humility. Please, my life isn't perfect but I am grateful for those who quoted Scripture to me and put a spiritual mirror in my face and helped me to see how wrong I was.
