Wow I really appreciate this video bc now I have like an “inside scoop” on what to expect when I take pharmacology. I’m definitely gonna be applying the things you mention and refer to this video when i start doing pharm. when I was in A&P and in micro I made tons of flashcards but these drug cards will help me so much! Thank you ❤️

@KristenWaldorf

Thank you ☺️ I like to keep things organized lol and I get bored and distracted when I study, so I try to implement some doodles to keep me focused 😂😂 And I know pharm can be overwhelming, but just take it slow day by day and that may help make it feel more manageable! Oh also get the biggest index cards you can find. It helps with making the handwriting more legible and you can elaborate more on adverse effects if needed.

@KristenWaldorf
@KristenWaldorf 3 года назад
ibi2011bg Hey! Unfortunately I am not selling my notecards at this time. I am slowly working on more I wasn’t tested on and once that’s complete, I was thinking about selling them. However, I did use the davis’s drug guide app on my phone that cost me $39.99 and it was the best purchase I made. They have an unbound version that goes through each drug and it was so helpful. I highly recommend utilizing the free trial and see if it helps before purchasing it. Otherwise I recommend quizlets. They are free and you can find so many practice questions on there to help you with nursing style questions in pharm! I hope this helps 😊

I use the Davis’s Drug Guide by unbound medicine. There is also a nursing central application by Unbound that comes with the drug guide as well and many other resources in case your interested, I have a 10% off code for the nursing central central. Both require a 1 year subscription fee, but the app is still yours without updates if you choose not to renew.

Kristen i'm back with more questions LOL.... I am having trouble deciding what to put on my med card. For example, there are 101 side effects- I feel like there's no way i'm putting them ALL on my card... I'm using Davis Drug Guide for my information. Besides red lettering and bold lettering, how did you decide what was most important to include in side effects, etc? & how did you determine what the most common ones were? Thanks =)
@KristenWaldorf
@KristenWaldorf 3 года назад
Hey! Yes so I mainly wrote down the bold and underlined side effects. I would also include any extra side effects that my professor included. My professor did a great job only giving us the main 5 or 6 side effects and then I included any extra common side effects you might see. You really just need to know the main side effects that make each drug unique. So don’t try to fit all the side effects on a card because some side effects are so general that it won’t help distinguish between drugs. I hope this help 😀
@queenofhearts293
@queenofhearts293 3 года назад
@@KristenWaldorf thank you! It does help. Like, don’t put “hypersensitivity” on each contraindication 🤣🤣🤣 I gotcha. Thank you! I wish my professors provided us with a powerpoint to pull info from for these drugs
@KristenWaldorf
@KristenWaldorf 3 года назад
Queen Of Hearts Yeah exactly! Only put anaphylaxis on the drug card when it’s either in bold or underlined in the drug book. Another example are antihypertensive medications. Most all will have hypotension/orthostatic hypotension/bradycardia as a side effect. But I had to find key words that helped me distinguish between beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, ARBS... I know for me I only memorized the side effect for cough for ACE inhibitors and that was pretty much all I needed to know for that one. Just find some main differences and know the most important and common side effects and you should be good! Also do lots of practice questions. That really helped me too.

Angel Locsin At this time, I am currently not selling my notes. Maybe in the future, but I am thinking of make cheat sheets and other helpful tools instead. I do believe the best way to learn the material in nursing school is creating your own study guide and there maybe material in my notecards and study guides that you might or might not have to know. I know every program is different, so I would feel bad if someone relies on my study guide and their exam has different material on it. Let me know if you have more questions. Good luck 😀

do i have to go to nursing school in order to get a degree in pharmacology?
@KristenWaldorf
@KristenWaldorf 3 года назад
I don’t think that would be the case. If you are interested in the nursing profession then you would apply to nursing school. I believe you are asking about the pharmacy route if I’m not mistaken. In that case I believe you would have to obtain a bachelor’s in biology or biomedical sciences and then apply to pharmacy school. I’m not 100% certain in the correct route, but I’m sure you can always reach out to any school in your area to talk to an academic advisor on the steps needed for the route you would like to take. I hope this helps!

So in the end, I only had to go back and review the cards a few times before each exam. Actually saved me tons of time, but my study method won’t work for everyone.
