Hi! I'm Sam and I'm a licensed cosmetologist from Pennsylvania. It seems so hard to work with different clients and hair types. It’s clear you have to be confident in yourself and really knowledgeable. I’m on the waiting list for cosmetology school. Professional hairstylist here lol kinda since I gave it up since I felt bad for all my clients since I used to give it my 100% all the time and every client of course would be like a natural level 4 and want to be BLONDE like ICYYYYY and it would take me like 6+ hours for clients and I felt so bad and was still considered a beginner so I felt like it made me so unprofessional because i took so long. But seeing that that took you 6 hours made me feel good! Beautiful results girly! ❤️ I found your channel since I am going into lashes now lol

Wow I really liked the Friday client with the subtle lighter color throughout! I have dark brown hair and I’d love to get something similar to that just to add some color and dimension!

I have dark brown hair too, I went into a salon to get a balayage and it looks so pretty! I'd highly recommend it, if you don't want to go full blonde. A balayage looks so good on dark hair, especially when it's subtle.

I’d love to get one but instead of light blonde I’d get more of a caramel color just to give it a slight something without being too light, I’ll look into it!

Samantha.... Your beginners hair cutting videos are the most useful on youtube. Slow and well explained. I am getting ready to cut my wifes hair for the first time in 7 months and have no hair cutting experience. Going to do long layers on mid back hair. My question is how to use thinning shears on long hair. Any links or suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you! I like to cut into the hair vertically with them, rather than cutting straight across horizontally, so that it doesn't create any noticeable weird lines. Also, I only use them about 2-3 inches up from the ends. If you use them all the way up the hair shaft, you'll end up with random short pieces that will stick up all over the place.

Hi Sam, love your work, I was wondering what the difference is between a normal bleach and the clay one you used on the balayage client?

Clay bleach only lifts 2 to 3 levels normal bleach can lift up to 9 levels

Clay lightener creates a dry shell around the hair to keep the product moist on the inside, so it's great for free hand painting. It's also a much thicker consistency, so it doesn't really penetrate the hair, it more so sits on top, which is why it's great for balayage when you want a more natural, sun kissed result. The regular lightener is more ideal for using in foil because it will dry out and stop working if you let it process in the air without any insulation.

Thank you so much!! The crazy part is that she liked the original cut, until I showed her how my comb kept getting stuck and explained the problem. Once she saw the comparison of before vs. after, she was shocked.

Thank you! Lol it is!! That's why a lot of stylists will say that going so blonde will take multiple sessions, because it does take a lot of work and costs a lot to do it all at once. The way I look at it is - I'm going to be there for 6 hours regardless. I can do three 2 hour appointments, or one 6 hour appointment. It's all the same to me as long as I'm making the same amount at the end of the day.

Does it get boring when clients come in asking for pretty much the same hair color/style all the time? I.e when the ombré was huge.

Honestly, no. Because each client is so different and their hair is so different, so even if I'm doing a very similar application, the experience itself is never the same. Plus, it gives me lots of opportunity for practice and I always find different ways to improve on my speed and technique :)

We have set starting prices for all of our services. So this, for example, starts around $200 and then goes up for each additional bowl of color needed. I think she ended up needing 10 extra bowls!

My issue with getting my haircut is exactly what you explained about thick hair. I have VERY thick hair. It’s very heavy and gives me headaches. I hate having my hair cut because my ends always look blunt and choppy. I wait as long as I possibly can before going to get my haircut sometimes over a year. I’ve been wanting to cut my hair to a medium length but am terrified. My SIL always has great hair so I asked where she goes and she let me know. I’m still nervous to call and try to get an appointment. I don’t want any color done just a cut. I’m hoping this hair stylist can give me a cut I love.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you! You can always ask the stylist too! Just be like "everytime I've had my hair cut in the past, it was very choppy and the ends were heavy. I was told that the ends should be point cut and texturized since my hair is so thick...what do you think?"

We have set starting prices for each service, and then the price goes up for each additional bowl of color needed. Most of our blonding services start between $150-$200 and then can go up to double that amount.

Lynzy Miller true! We charge hourly for corrections too. But she had pretty much all virgin hair. I only consider it a correction when there’s pre existing color, especially if it wasn’t done by me originally. :)
