Today, I take you guys along with me for 12 hours as a nightshift respiratory therapist. The night starts off with an intubation in the emergency room. I show you guys what a fairly busy night as the only respiratory therapist in the hospital looks like. My assignment in Iowa is almost over! I hope you guys have enjoyed seeing what this assignment has been like for me + I can't wait to take you guys along on the next one!

I am a traveling Respiratory Therapist. I am currently on assignment in IOWA! It is a 13 week assignment + Ill be taking you guys along as I work, giving you guys a glimpse of a travel RT! Along with showing you guys the reality of being a traveler, I’ll take you guys with me as I travel around on my days off and take advantage of the best parts of being a traveler! Along with this being a new assignment, it also marks a fresh chapter in my life. Welcome to my channel! I wanted to create a space that I could collect my video diaries as I travel around working as a respiratory therapist. I've been a travel therapist since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 and couldn't imagine ever going back! I'll show you the pros and cons of travel life. I'll also try to share some tips on what I've learned along the way for anyone considering a career in respiratory or taking that step to become a travel therapist. If you've ever wondered what it's like to travel as a respiratory therapist, follow along!

I have a cousin who never studied much, we studied together but she gives most of her time to her phone than her studies after writing the CSE exam last month she passed and i failed😢, i asked her how she did it, just found out she got help from Mr Richard

Love your vids. I am 6 months in the RT program. This last term was insane. But I keep pushing. Have been wanting to be an RT for so long, since I was an LVN. Now is my time. Keep them coming.

Hi! This is so random to reply to a comment that’s 6 months old but I’m just so happy/intrigued to find someone sharing the same route as me! I have been an LPN (LVN) for sometime now and just have found no desire to continue on for my RN. Respiratory therapy has been on my mind so heavy but hesitated due to many people questioning me not staying on the nursing track. So glad to see someone taking the same path I wish to take. @@kikidavid9400 You are not alone. I know a few LVN's that did the same and they are so happy. RT definitely has less stress, but is an extremely critical thinking type of field. Less physical for sure than nursing. My cousin has been an RT for 14 years and still loves it. We are the shit hits the fan crew. I have 5 more months till graduation, and I love clinicals. Can you please do a video about your experience in the RT program? -Were you working while in school? -How frequently you studied? -Did you feel like you were lacking socially because of the program? -Tips to excel in the program? -Based on the money you paid towards your degree and what you make now, do you think it was worth it? -How many students you started with in the program and how many actually graduated? -How long it took you to get your first job after graduating? -What clinicals were like and what you actually did as a student in that setting? yasss one semester down! it will definitely be over before you know it! I have the most experience (and feel the most comfortable) with adult acute care. I haven't ventured into the world of babies yet. not sure if I ever will! If I am working the ER, I will have to care for peds and whoever comes in tho.

Omg I was THE worst at abgs when I was in school! But nightshift helped a lot on practicing because of morning gases. And I was lucky to have been at a clinical site that allowed me to practice as much as I did. Practice makes perfect. And realizing that I need to feel comfortable before attempting an abg - such as raising the bed and making things as comfortable and accessible for myself. Hope that makes sense and helps!

hi! I think being a RT requires someone that can stay calm and collected during stressful times. RTs main role at the hospital is playing a vital role during critical times + crashing patients. I think you should be able to multi-task, have strong critical thinking skills, and able to communicate well with others. As a RT, you are working with every skillset in the hospital form docs to nurses - they definitely keep you on your feet!

I hope I make sense but Do you have the option to work in the ER or ICU meaning can you say no or can you find a job that doesn’t require working in ER or ICU

Hi Rachel! I'm applying to RT school and I really have travel RT on my mind. I have so many questions. Is it hard or scary to be traveling alone? Do you have to wait a year of experience to start travel RT? How do you go about finding a trustworthy agency for the contracts?

@Brian Babin Hi Brian! So sorry to hear thats been your experience in the respiratory field! Fortunately for me, timing has been a blessing on my side and I guess I've just had a more positive experience. I went into this field, knowing this wouldn't be an end game for me and planned for that in advance. I've taken the opportunities given to me and used it to my advantage. With the pandemic, I was able to start traveling as a RT and gained financial freedom. I've only traveled for over a year, but I've worked at a number of hospitals and THANKFULLY my experience with other healthcare workers has been nothing like what you're describing. Nurses, Docs, etc have never been abusive and have shown gratitude for what RTs bring to the field. COVID has definitely changed the game for RT's, but even before then - the best nurses/docs always appreciated a good RT. With good teamwork, I think it helps make the job less stressful. And maybe I've just been pretty lucky to work with some amazing RT's that know their stuff and make the job 10 times easier and actually enjoyable? Especially during the pandemic, I've only experienced RT's being highly sought after and greatly needed. This past week alone, I've been bombarded with emails, texts, calls for RT's desperately needed all throughout with pretty sweet pay packages. I think most RT's nowadays would say the hospitals are lucky to have a RT versus the other way around. Because I can confidently say, the last thing I'm worried about is ever having a job in this field. I guess being in the RT field is like any other situation in life - you get out of it what you put into it. I do my job the best I can, learn + grow as much as I can and in return I've had a pretty badass experience. I've met the best people thru this field, traveled, and have more money in my bank than ever before.

Jessica, DONT listen to him. the ones who are complaining about things like that, are most likely horrible at their job, don’t know what they’re doing, or are doing the job for the wrong reasons.. Being an RT is very rewarding and a lot of us love what we do. We’re here to help people and the world during this pandemic. Don’t get me wrong, it’s exhausting, but very worth it. I’ve been an RT for 10 years, and have been traveling for for 4 years, and i love every bit of it. Go for it!
