I would have no patience with crocheting with perlers but I think the little dragon was a success. I think you covered his bald spot with wings but you can always sew beads in the holes. Also if you hadn't slayed the positioning of the eyes and claws, a beader trick when using the tiny glass Delica beads is use a small pliers to shatter the bead you need to remove, then just weave the new bead in. I don't know if perlers are breakable!
@leemasters3592
@leemasters3592 8 месяцев назад
As a long time beader my pro tip for bead spills or just cleanup- a vacuum cleaner, rubber band and the foot end end of a stocking (knee-highs are perfect). Take the foot off the vacuum cleaner and put the end of the stocking on the tube with 2/3 hanging off. Use the rubber band to secure it in place. Then vacuum up your beads. After turning off the vacum you can pull the stocking free of the tube and all your beads are neatly in the stocking.

The perler beads 'sits nicer' on the project if you're not crocheting with increases/decreases. I made a clutch purse with crochet and perler beads and it turned out beautifully!! It would also look really cute if you use the perler beads to crochet a book bag!

This was my thought, classic Peyote stitch! I am not familiar with crochet, but Peyote Stitch is second nature to me. I would love to see how this may translate to learning crochet! I also feel her comment about the hand strain. Something about the way you have to hold the pieces as you work gets to ya, even more so when I use stretchy string on my pony bead “baskets”

Just started... But have to comment the obvious. Less thread- add more as you go. It will make thread management much easier lol. I appreciate this video because it shows how ideas can be formulated when you are doing and creating projects... How things can become an all day all night thing- that sometimes end in failure that can be turned around into a success. It's definitely a process and those of us who create actually LOVE the process- even the headache that comes with it. We are weird. We think it's fun. Lol.
@izzycurer1260
@izzycurer1260 8 месяцев назад
I haven't tried this with melty beads and crochet thread, but I've done something similar with seed beads and sewing thread. I think the dragon is cute the way it is, but just in case you're curious, it is possible to make 3d structural shapes using the square stitch beading technique, like how you did the wings. To increase, you can add two beads above the one below, but each bead gets added one at a time with its own loop. To decrease, you skip a bead, and move on to the next one. If your rows are too wobbly, you can pass the needle through each new bead several times as you're adding them. Alternatively, when working around in a circle, you can pass the needle through all of the beads at once at the end of each row to help tighten them, which is faster if not quite as firm as doing it individually. I should also note that most instructions I've seen for square stitch tell you to work over-handed, as if you're sewing the new bead down to the one below. That's fine for flat things, but for 3d shapes I seemed to have better control when working under-handed, where you actually pass the needle through the bead below first, then string on your new bead, and pass the needle through the same one below again. This leaves the one above to flop around a bit, which lets you mush it where you want it to go as you work.

For thread management I recommend taking some notes on how it’s managed in Nalbinding and hand sewing. It is the exact same problem and they handle it really well (step 1: use less thread and just add more when you need to).

I've been selling Perler bead commissions of game OCs and pets for a bit now, and I'm (sort of) trying to learn to crochet, so this is a remarkably appropriate combo. Perlers themselves are a fidget toy, I've listened to online classes while assembling projects. If you think regular Perler beads are tiny, you should check out the mini ones. You'd need embroidery floss for those. The dragon turned out adorable

I like it! Seeing the finished product really makes me want to see a green Reptar!!! Sans wings haha. Thank you for sticking with it, it was fun

Greatly enjoyed your video! Thank you for including the parts where things weren't working out as you'd hoped or where you were getting tired or frustrated -- it's a great reminder to me that everyone feels this way sometimes. I really liked your little dragon! If you try it again, maybe try to alter the pattern to add more "stitches" (beads) to a slightly larger dragon to get a more uniform surface with less yarn showing through.

I like the little raindow bumblebee, I think the flat little guy needs some stuffing so it can be more 3D.

If anyone wants to know the technique in the beginning fidget toy part is called brick stitch in beading there's also one called peyote stitch which will be more symmetrical

The peyote stitch is the offset one, and is often worked in the round.

The start is a lot similar (if not the same) to making Kandi!! you should look at some of those patterns out there!! Making Kandi and crocheting are two of my favorite activities!

I also have to say I love these videos because the mistakes or trials are part of learning 😊❤
