My first memory of this place was when I was in a little red leather high chair...went with my parents. I had a glass of ice cubes. I have been back hundreds of times in my 67 years...and have never had the prime rib! I dont eat meat. Never liked it! I have half a plate of creamed spinach, half a plate of mashed potatoes and gravy, the yorkshire pudding and salad, and that wonderful bread (plus the corn bread when it's available). I've always loved the staff, and yes, it's awfully noisy and pricey but more than worth it. An SF institution! Thanks for posting, and Happy Birthday Dad!
My girlfriend took me there back in 92 or so for my birthday, the place was great and I'm glad I went once. Yes you'll have the creamed spinach and love it, and the salad was good too. A good customer of mine worked as the lead at a kind of private seafood restraunt nearby on O'Farrel, and he promised me a great birthday dinner for us, which he delivered on, and to this day i greatly appreciate what he did, as he had to get a chef and busboy in on a closed night for this. Place was interesting, they mostly catered to Japanese businessmen and was only open when they had a reservation. I have great memories of living in san francisco, especially the 80's and early 90's when it was still fun and cheap.
My folks started going there when they first opened & then took us 3 kids in mid 60’s and I went in the mid 70’s & took my daughter there & to still to this day when I get a chance and I know I’m up in the city will get there before they open to get a seat at the bar
So happy to see this! HOPR is my absolute favorite restaurant in the city! Next time ask for a rib cap when it’s available they’ll slide you one. And happy birthday to pops! 🎉
Oh my! That looked SO GOOD! The prices did look like alot, but it did seem that you got ALOT of food as well. Bread, salad, meat and all the fixings. I would never be able to eat all that. Seems like they fed you all very well. That meat looked so good as well. I am sure it would be a place you would only go to for a special meal. Hope your dad had a great Birthday. Good for him. Seemed like a nice date night for the 4 of you :) Nice that they gave you a bonus piece of meat if you finished your first. That was cool. God bless!

Expensive restaurant, why does it not have and acoustic ceiling to cut noise? Have been to way cheaper places and more talk friendly because of the acoustic ceiling. Food looks good but Ju could be thicker.
