Comedian Daniel Sloss Tells Men to Hold Other Men Accountable 

Men love to act like they don’t understand how women get into certain situations, yet they will laugh along at jokes disrespecting their women or their community because they are scared of the social consequences of pushing back. For women, the consequences are much greater than not getting an invite to the next boys night. Do something! Wild that Sloss feels guilty when he is one of the only individuals who has spoken up- and has been for years. Brand’s behavior was an open secret among the UK comedy scene, and if not for Daniel Sloss and Katherine Ryan, he still would be. Appreciate them!

When I was 17 years old I got a job at a sandwich shop. Before I was hired I told the manager that I had to take the bus to work (with a transfer), so I couldn't work late. After two weeks he scheduled me for the late shift. I went to work as scheduled. On the way home, while waiting for my connection, a car full of guys circled the block where I was waiting for the second bus. They were yelling obscenities and threats. I was so scared. I called the next morning and just quit. There was no excuse for putting me through that, not by the guys in the car or the manager.

Truely an underrated comedian. He has an amazing netflix special thats actually two specials in one kinda touching on similar themes. Dude needs more specials ASAP.

Incredible! I'm stunned that a guy finally said it this bluntly... As a survivor of SA I just want to tell guys that if you WANT women to DESIRE you and WANT her to feel UNASHAMED, confident enough to be vulnerable to you in such situations, it's gonna help if we don't all have PTSD and flashbacks to traumatic memories &/or violent experiences... And historically, a majority of women have suffered at least one assault but it can be a pattern often repeated & very often underreported due to stigmatizing or disbelieving victims aka the 2nd assault by society &/or law enforcement, college administrators, politicians etc.

If they tell you it hasn’t affected them or someone they love, they’re probably not being honest with you or themselves. ❤

Not only talk to your adult friends, but speak with your sons, nephews, your cousins whatever. Don't wait til these little boys are men. I have a daughter and a son, and I have spoken to them on a number of occasions about how to treat others. They are both adults now, but they know I will still call them out if need be.

Yup. In college, I berated the man I was casually seeing because he told me about a past experience with a woman who had a bad experience with another man. I berated him for not supporting her. I also briefly dated another man who didn’t see any problem with misdirecting a woman to a bad building because he didn’t want to miss his chance at a better apartment. Knowingly putting her in danger. I also have a female friend who casually dated a man who treated women differently based on his stereotypes of how each woman ought to behave based on their race. It was disgusting. I berated her for not saying something to him. It’s not just men needing to speak to their fellow men about their behavior or beliefs. The women in their lives who don’t correct that attitude or mindset are complicit too. Abstaining from this topic doesn’t make any of us superior or moral or right. It makes us complicit and cowards. Do better by one another and speak up. I assume this comedian was referencing SA but I think all inappropriate male attitudes about women and their treatment of women and their role in putting women in harms way needs to be addressed.

This guy is the reason I started watching comedy specials. My mother forced me to sit down and watch it with her and we laughed so hard we cried in the first half. And then in the second half he used a lot of the jokes and perspective he’d built in the first half to make this section of the special disarming and effective. He was brutally honest throughout, even when he was talking about how a female friend of his was SA’d by a male friend of his. This special went to dark places, but it ultimately left me feeling optimistic, as a woman, about men, because he really gets it. And if he does, other men can. I do watch other comedians now, but none have ever blown my mind the way this special did. Josh Johnson does a similar thing now, but more relaxed and subdued.

The challenge is there will always be people that deflect and resort to whataboutism which also contribute towards improvement. If I post my opinion about relationships or male/female dynamic, taking effort to not insult, sadly if about 100 men reply, they insult and make assumptions. If I am lucky, 2 will reply respectfully with at least one knowing how to respectfully disagree and state why. It saddens me that it is 2 out of 100.

"Talking to your sons" is _not_ what holding someone accountable means; that won't do it. Accountability requires a mechanism of social pressure. The social framework by which men held other men accountable for their behavior was: The Patriarchy. Feminists even assert that. But the patriarchy has been largely smashed, so forget about men holding men accountable for their behavior. Any effective mechanism for actually doing that would be...the patriarchy.

This guy is really annoying...if you watch his specials he does this thing where he preaches to the audience. If you watch the special he didn't confront the attacker, who went on to do it again, and doesn't name him. He literally protects the attacker and is making money off the humorous way in which the victim deals with it. He literally contradicts himself, saying "Instead of having this hero complex" then goes on to say that you can change the behavior of a r*pist by talking to them? He himself did NOTHING and the guy he knew for 8 years went on to do it again to someone else. Don't give bad advice buddy , the idea that a person commits a crime like this because they haven't had a "talking to" is insulting.
