On David Lucas's side, his form of comedy demands dark jokes, much like the George Floyd ones and to his defense, if you don't do research on a comedian before going to see them, you may be in for a rude surprise. So I get his perspective. On the other side, I understand the reactions because people that weren't even expecting to be traumatized were traumatized by the whole George Floyd situation. So it was obviously triggering which I also understand as it's not easy to simply "avoid" hyper-emotionality in that sense. Regardless, at the end of the day a person's triggers are their responsibility, which is the midpoint of the whole situation. It just boils down to being able to take what you signed up to attend, but even if you can't it's not that big of a deal either IMO, just leave. Every offense doesn't require a verbal response.

But even if you have a mostly white audience crack on them with white jokes also, ( if it's just about freedom of speech. ) And leave your political views out of the jokes because if you don't, you divide yourself from the audience. We all know whites mostly vote republican and most blacks vote democrat and as a comedian you tell your audience you are a maga fan and tell jokes that offends the black audience while the white part of the audience laugh at the jokes. Now is it because of freedom of speech or is it that he's catering to the white side of the audience. ( Just Saying )

It's called exploiting shock value and pandering to a certain audience. David Lucas is a good comedian, but at some point after moving to Austin, it became obvious to me how he started constructing jokes for a more conservative audience, or injecting politics in a very unsubtle way, rather than pure funny. Whether that's what he believes, or because he thinks it's a way to find a niche for him... I think comedians should stay away from politics unless they are very thoughtful and can thread the needle.

I don't really think it's good to dwell on it, but it was kind of one ultimate form of slavery. Galley slavery was arguably worse, maybe, and the Arab slave trade, sexual slavery around the world. For different reasons though. There was something so institutionally justified, so coldly civilized about American chattel slavery, an it contnued way past the enlightenment. That makes it even worse imo, it was practiced by semi-modern people who had every opportunity to know better.
