"I have found myself feeling kind of guilty when I reread books. Like there are so many books I have not read that I start to feel a little bad when I'm rereading favorites. However, my anxiety has just been YAAH lately. And I have found so much comfort in rereading favorite books. So I'm just embracing that. I'm planning to reread a bunch of favorites this spring. Because, I *want* to. And I'm over feeling guilt for reading the books that I want to read." *slowly stands up* *claps hands over head* YEAH! ^-^
I’ve been battling similar feelings about rereading guilt, but I recently reread the first three HP books and the absolute JOY they brought me is really helping me deal with those negative feelings. (Also, that outfit is so cute!)
I also love re-reading my favorites via audiobook! I started a little over a year ago doing this. My first was the whole Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series. I am now on The Raven Cycle. I waited a while between the first three books and The Raven King so I want to re-read them close together to really have everything fresh.
Most of my 2020 reads have been rereads lol & i dont feel one bit of guilt!! I reread Infernal Devices for at least the 4th time & it was glorious! 😍 I also do the same thing w Harry Potter audio books! Except i also listen to it in the shower and as im trying to fall asleep, its the best ❤
you say is "spring" but your outfit and make up scream "fall" and I love it😂😂 I SO wanna hear Tat reading THG! esp since she read a short story on Insta live the other day and I realized I miss her voice (or her many voices to be more precise)😭
Umm, Idk if you know this, but iBooks (at least the UK side from what I've seen), has FREE AUDIOBOOKS and one of which is the Wonderful Wizard of OZ NARRATED BY TITUS ANDROMEDON HIMSELF, TITUS BURGESS!!
I know your TBR is kind of stacked right now, but if you like kpop and 24hr books, consider Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo :) it’s a Roman Holiday retelling about a female kpop idol and a young tabloid photographer in Hong Kong and I had a lot of fun reading it last year!!
Out of topic but Kat omg I really want to recommend you to watch THE UNTAMED! Its a gay fantasy chinese drama and its amazing!! Its on Netflix, Viki, WeTV and RU-vid. Tbh i don’t recommend to watch on youtube cause the subs are bad, Viki website or app has the best subtitles! Honestly go there! Netflix subs are fine too but kinda awkward at times and kinda basic but still fine. The first several episodes are very confusing not gonna lie, but then it will all start clicking and omg! Do check it out!
All of the books you picked are amazing and the ones I have not read I will definitely pick up except for We Are the Wildcats by Siobhan Vivian. While the books sound interesting I cannot in good consciousness support her works after her commentaries in Sarah Dessen's situation. I cannot see how she can write pro-female books while making the comments she made considering her position
When you said your intro ‘heelloooo’ i got an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia cus i wantched you a lot in high school and I’m rediscovering booktube again 🥺 I missed you
I don't know why but the way Kat explain what the books are about make me wanna read them so badly, i need those books (sorry for my english i'm from Argentina and my english is not verry good)
Your English is actually very good, especially for a non-native speaker. I think most people would just think you were rushing and made a mistake or two. It happens to myself all the time. I make way more mistakes in my second language (French) so you did really well. English is hard.
YES!!! i think the original audiobooks were done by someone else, but there was a special edition version recently done by TATIANA MASLANY!!! and i'm POSITIVE it will be AMAZING!!!!
I've also been rereading my favorites rather than reading new books (I mean, I have no money to buy new books either way, so...) since last summer. I've already done HP, all of Cassandra Clare Shadowhunter series, all of Veronica Roth's books, and right now I was thinking of reading all of Rick's books and I started with The Kane Chronicles which (and let me say it loud for those on the back) IS SO UNDERRATED! After I'll either do PJO or Heroes of Olympus.
I recently marathoned the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy because i know you love it so much and I wanted to love it so much but i didn’t. It was a fantastically crafted and thought-out story and the writing was gorgeous but something about the writing felt like i was really disconnected from the story. Like i was watching it go down from far away. I don’t really know why
Hi Kat!! I told myself I shouldn't reread too many books this year, since I reread a tonnn last year, but I just reread Lady Midnight and Lord of Shadows, and I definitely wanted to reread the Infernal Devices. They're truly the best. I finally just finished Queen of Air and Darkness and Ghosts of the Shadow Market. I am currently reading The Red Scrolls of Magic, and then I need to read Chain of Gold...but I miss The Infernal Devices! And I don't want to think about all of the new books I need to read as well...Great video, Kat!!! You're amazing. Hope you're doing well!
I'm rereading Infernal Devices as well.! Just looking at the series sparks joy for me. I'm coming off a wicked reading slump and being a student hasn't given me much time to read for pleasure. But I graduate next month and my summer before transferring to my 4-yr will be filled with books-starting with Cassandra Claire❤ I cant wait!
OH man, you're absolutely me w the rereading guilt. i'm re-reading Red, White and Royal Blue for the third time and i feel like i should be reaching for chain of gold, but RWRB is babyyy
Hi, Kat! I've been watching you for years and your videos on writing really helped me with my book, "It Began in Brooklyn". I recently self-published and it'd be an honor if you checked it out :) I'll go ahead and leave a little description here: Valerie keeps secrets that could turn her life upside down. Valerie Becker, producer and writer of new TV show Brooklyn, is ready to make her big break. Her best friend, Lily Fontaine, portrays her dream role as the main actress and hopes to capture Noah Halls’ attention, her co-star and forever celebrity crush. But Hollywood’s heartthrob takes Valerie by surprise when he falls for her instead, putting her friendship and professionalism on the line. The lies and anxiety pile up as their past haunts them and she has to face the challenges of a woman seeking success in the film industry.
I just read Clockwork Angel for the first time a few weeks ago! I love it!!!! I will be finishing A Court of Frost and Starlight before I start Clockwork Prince. Also, love you Kat!! I love your channel!!
I'm currently relistening to Tatiana's hunger games (3rd time in the last year?) and I love them! Also relistening to Skyward :) It's nice to hear someone talking about comfort rereads, I personally struggle at listening to new books on audiobook format, but when it's a reread it's amazing!
I want to read the June Boys at some point but probably won’t have time to get it before booksplosion. I do want to reread The Infernal Devices since I finished Chain of Gold but also want to reread Goblet of Fire too lol.
My comfort read is just rereading Carry On and Wayward son over and over again (I've also been watching The Good place for the first time because you tweeted about the final, and it's awsome)
This time has made me want to comfort reread books so badly but I haven't for feeling guilty just as you said! But seeing you embrace it maybe I should too 😊😆
Oh boy, rereading favorites is the only thing that's been helping me keep it together lately so I get this so much. The audiobooks for Daughter of Smoke and Bone are fantastic! Definitely recommend getting them! Same for the Tatiana narrated Hunger Games, I owe myself a reread/listen of those too.
I get the guilt with rereading, but because I'm doing my college research on young adult books I get to do a lot of rereading guilt free! I'm rereading Everything, Everything now, and I get to start Second Chance Summer soon. It's so fun! I think one series I want to reread is the Hunger Games trilogy. It's been so long, and I had so much fun reading them the first time.
lol yeah i should've mentioned it when talking about hunger games because that definitely is one of my most anticipated books of spring!! but for the "top 5 new releases" list i wanted to highlight some lesser known books XD will absolutely be reading it as soon as it comes out though!
AH ALL THE NEW ONES SOUND SO GOOD I AM SO READY FOR THEM!!!! Also yes, all dem comfort rereads are a must. I did an audiobook reread of HP last year and while I agree that HP4 is much longer and drags a lot more than I remember, it is still my fav. Even book 5, which is the longest, I thought was my least fav and drags on for 5 ever, but after my reread its actually not my least fav anymore and Ive realized is actually pretty frikkin good, and Im supes down to discuss later if ya wanna! Sending you love and good vibes through all this, and hugs if you want them!!!
YES KAT TATIANA MASLANY READS BEAUTIFULLY THE BOOKS! I seriously don't think I'll ever read them again in paper because Tatiana captivated me so much that the next time I want to read the series, I'll listen to her. She's AMAZING.
Also been re-reading favorites. I just started Philosophers Stone and I also have the Hobbit and Anna and the French Kiss on my nightstand. I want to reread Hunger Games eventually, but I'm more in the mood for lighter books. Also, love me some "were stuck together and I don't really like you but I'll tolerate you till we both go our own way. Oops, scratch that. Don't go, I fell in love" trope. Two of my own characters from my story are exactly that trope (she is contracted to be a bodyguard to a prince and bring him safely to someplace but oops we have to go camping through the wilderness cuz a cult is after the prince, and would you look at that they fell in love)
You shouldn't feel guilty about rereading your favorites. As long as you enjoy what you read, that's what's important. You've actually inspired me to get some rereading in this spring. The favorites audiobook life sounds great, especially as someone who also has bad anxiety. Hope you're well! Ps: the denim with top is a really cute combo. You also look so good in your videos
I think 90% of what I read is rereading things. But I’m pretty picky about books and only finish if it’s basically amazing 😂 Or ones that I haven’t read all the way through but kinda know the story- i.e., Mary Poppins series, Jane Austen, Anne of Green Gables
I'm currently reading Uprooted for the 3rd time so I totally feel you on the comfort reading. My physical TBR has been shrinking, I'm currently not actually all that interested in getting new books (which almost feels weird), so I figured it's the perfect time. Comfort rereads are important, why else do we keep all of those books on our shelves?
All the books you are planning to reread are all the ones I want to reread this year too!! I especially want to reread The Infernal Devices and The Hunger Games since they both have new books out, Chain of Gold and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes out in May!! :)
This video made me want to read like....right now! Also, will you be doing any writing videos soonish? Hope you're doing well through all of quarantine!
I recently reread Harry Potter 1-3 so I can read 4-7 for the first time. I’m on Goblet of Fire now and really enjoying reading it for the first time! I can’t wait to see if any of my opinions change while reading because I’ve seen all the movies
If you decide to read something new I highly recommend the Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff. I read all three books last year and I would call it an all time favorite
woke up, first thing i hear is a lawn mower.. grrr.. i hate loud lawnmowers, and it's really the only loud thing in this area.. but, look at my phone and first thing i see is a notice that Kat uploaded a new video, Yay.
I’ve been rereading a lot of comfort books too. It’s like a way to find stability in a time where there’s anything but. Some of my favorites are Anne of Green Gables and All Of A Kind Family!
I have been wanting to pick up the June Boys. The concept gives me real Criminal Minds vibes and I am loving it. I am doing a Harry Potter re-read, but I'm reading the Illustrated editions with my 7 year old daughter :) It is sloe b/c I'm doing a chapter a night out loud but It has been so much fun.
that sounds like a lovely way to reread harry potter! and it might be for the better that you're going slow since we're still waiting for all the illustrated versions to be released! XD
@@Katytastic it has been fun, and yes the 5th one may be out by time I get to that book at the place we are reading at 😂 but seeing her read it for the 1st time is the best
The weather here has been a bit confused. There was some snow. I was able to find We Are The Wildcats at the library so I put it on hold. I'll just have to trick myself because I can't follow a TBR. I reject assigned reading even when I'm the one choosing it. I'm still able to take walks since we're allowed to grocery shop, walk, or go to work. The only changes are not going to the library which closed the day my library card expired which means I have to call to fix that and no daily trips to Wal-Mart for potatoes wedges or chicken tenders. It was kind of funny because my state declared the stay at home order on my birthday. So I now have official permission to avoid people.
