This tour was filled with comedy haha I love the bit about the booth plant succumbing to the forces of nature lol. As far as the creative aspects, I think the adjustable/removable panels on the ceiling were a great feature. Overall, the design of this room is gorgeous. One of my favorite parts is on the membership - that melody Zane makes is beautiful!

Really awesome video. I use a dangerous D’box unit in my studio for DA and analog summing. My experience with summing is that it’s different to being completely ITB. Personally, I use less processing when I use the summing and find that not all songs need to go through the summing. That being said, I want to add a dangerous 2-bus plus to have extra summing channels. Thanks for the great content.

this is such a great studio and video. Kansas city is a vibe and thats so cool JHS is right next door. Also, I miss nashville studios so much. You should do a tour of Yakland studios! One of the coolest nashville studios I've been to. Owned by Stephen Leiweke

It is time for you to grab some Rupert Neve Designs gear and make your life more complete. The 5059 is super dope. It adds more than just voodoo to the mix. I run it out of my Apollo 16 using DB25 cables and back into my interface using two line in channels. They have recently come out with a newer simpler version called the 5057, and it's half the price of the 5059. I'll bus all my stereo busses to the summing mixer, and leave the vocal and bass in mono for summing. It works great. It sounds fucking great.

I've been using the BURL Vancouver 32ch summing box with my Mothership for several years. As close to a console as I've heard. Added depth/width/height, more clarity with reverb tails, etc just gets you 'there' much faster, which made mixing ITB untenable for me. Price is right, too!

I use both a Rupert Neve Designs 5059 and Rupert Neve Designs 5060! The former is tied to a Flock Patch with a nice selection of outboard (second Patch on the way). I highly recommend using them, the silk alone is worth the cost, and when paired with a Patch it’s a dream come true!

Nice amps, love those Bluesbreakers. A good utility piece of gear that might suit your setup and workflow might be a Cranborne Camden EC1 desktop pre/DI/headphone amp. Because you get a great very clean mic preamp with tons of gain, and colour options. But also DI. And a really good strong headphone amp. It's nice to have a strong clean pre to sit in the desk area. Because you can just put a desk mount general purpose mic on it. Can DI guitar or bass into it. And feed your headphones from it. And they're small, well built and only about 400.

I’ve been using a D Box for the past couple of months and was a bit skeptical at first.... cant believe how much of a difference just 8 channels of analog summing made. I guess the analog summing cliche descriptors are cliche for a reason! Great vid as always :) thanks for all of these!

Andrew - are you from the KC area as well? I’m 10 minutes from Grandview so I will have to check Zane’s studio out. This was a fun walkthrough and he has a lot of great that is on my list. The Juno 60 was my first synth. I bought it in 84. I later owned a couple Matrix 6’s. Both are awesome keyboards.

I reallllly enjoyed this tour! Looks like such a great production and mixing space. Although I dreams to have a drum room one day.... Having a really nice production room with a booth is also high on my list! Question for anyone... what are these whisper walls? This is the second tour ive heard them in. I was wondering if this is a product sold by someone or just a custom made wall with absorption?

Best practice is the back wall is whisper walled. 3-6” of insulation with a 1-2” air gap

If you are doing summing go with the ams neve box and the fader add on. You could even sell your uf8. The dangerous boxes are great too. If you really wanna go all out though, you could sell a few things to trade for a new or used api the box2. I’m sure you already have some 500 series gear to slot in.
