Hey, gang!
Just a quick video this time out with some advice on grading newer comic books - whether you are a buyer or a seller, always be sure to check the spine for a color break line, something more prevalent in newer books, with their heavier paper stock and thicker inks, than in their comparatively more supple peers from the 1980s and earlier.

I had wondered about this too. The heavier clay-coated stock, especially on the thick variant covers that get printed flat of course, then when folded it cracks and breaks the color. I have struggled to grade these because of that. Kind of like a bindery tear, it is technically a result of the production but it does break the color so do I grade down for it or not? I have gone both ways and consider the damage after the effect too. Example: because of the folding process the spine is cracked/color broken, has there been additional wear, more paper exposed or additional flaking. A book that would otherwise be a 9.6 or a 9.8 is now a 9.0 or a 9.2. I tend to keep it a 9.0 or better depending on the amount of color breakage if I can, as it was a result of the printing/bindery process and not a result of actual wear. But I do agree that traditionally it should be graded lower as you suggested.
