The atmosphere of this was amazing for me as a kid. Gunfire, explosions, screams, crackling radios, EVA, an awesome industrial soundtrack, and the great attention to detail in the presentation (remember the installer)... all at once
I remember my best friend rented the game, he didn't care much for it but I had a blast. My family got our first PC shortly after and this game ended up being the first video game I ever bought for anything.
I started with RA. RA2 was better in every way. Renegade was good and generals while fun the graphics sucked and were too cartoony. All the super sci-fi/spacey ones sucks in my opinion (outside of renegade).
Young boys and girls don't remember. This was an excellent time to be a youn' gamer, not yet having to carry the burdens of society. Attitude complimented with a great soundtrack.
I played this with my father as a kid. We were both very impressed with even the installation. It was unreal to have a voiced-over installation process. Many a night were lost to this and Red Alert. I don't think I played any of the others, just those two.
I had this on a Macintosh Performa 550 in 1995. If I remember correctly the hardrive was 160 MB. It's wild comparing it to what's current. I loved that it had full motion video at the time even tho every other line of pixels were missing.
I just had a memory of this mission and spent the better part of an hour figuring out what game, and mission it was! Thanks for posting this. One of the best games ever!
Bo Danville Red Alert 2 was easily the best, for me, and CNC3 was amazing as well; did you not enjoy those? The series fell off with Red Alert 3 for me, personally.
This game was one of the first games I ever played. I lost the CD and did not remember the name of it. I have been searching for it for so long. I am so nostalgic atm :P
I messed up school due to this game (and Simon the Sorcerer 2) 26 years ago lol... Wasted hundreds of hours on this game and stuff around. I remember having a CD with a level creator for C&C1 and hundreds of levels. I love these pixel graphics so much.
I remember playing this game when I was like 6-7. I never knew that the MCV could deploy so I just used it to run over enemy infantry, I think i never made it past level 3 for some reason...
HAHA same!!! But then one time two of my friends at daycare (we were all 5) came over and showed me that you could open up the MCV and I was SO mind fucked it was like another world opened up. Map two was really, really hard without any buildings :D Those damn tesla coils...
I soo remember this game... Let me tell you a little story: CIRCA 1995... We had a 386 DX 40 mhz, with 4mb of ram. I was the younger one of my two brothers. Around 1992 or so (I don't really recall the exact dates) I played (pirated) Dune II, my brothers thought it was a silly game. The very FIRST RTS game, mind you, just a bunch of units on a minimap, these things did nothing, it wasn't until I played Dune II for a couple of levels until they kept annoying me that it was a boring game, then they realized how awesome the game was. Two years later my bigger brother deceided to buy a X2 cd rom unit. We REALLY enjoyed some great games, like MEGARACE and Full throttle!! Until 1995 or so, with our 386 DX 40 mhz, 4 mb of ram, and a 2X cd rom unit, and a Sound blaster PRO. Such rig was becoming old. I get the shareware version of Command and Conquer... My brothers kept annoying me because this game had a minimum requeriment of having a 486 33 mhz or so. They insisted that this game would NEVER run on our computer. I insisted in trying it out... I installed the game and ran it. When the game installed and started with "ACT of instinct" song... It was the most awesome moment of my life! It sounded sooo cool that it really blew my mind off!! Not only for that, but also to prove my brothers they were wrong and I was right!!!! I just can't describe with words how I felt in that moment! of course, we played the three shareware missions for several months until we could get a hold of a pirated copy (we definetely couldn't afford an original copy).
Tiberium is the main Story of the CnC universe my friend ^^ The really first 3 games are CnC 1 Tiberian Dawn, CnC Tiberium Sun and CnC 3 Tiberium Wars. The Tiberium saga is my fav. CnC universe. Hope you'll Play all Tiberium games ^^ They are a lot better then the other CnC´s
I'm maybe 4 hours into the recent Warcraft 2 release on GOG and here I am watching this while re installing the Origin version of C&C. Command & Conquer did it better in 1995 folks. :P
