Regarding Brian's confidence, I always remember what James Worthy said about Larry Bird: "When you're arrogant and you can back it up, you're not arrogant you're just good"
To paraphrase Tuco from the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: “There are two kinds of Magic players, my friend. Those that come in by the door; those that come in by the window.” Olivia stuck to the window.😀Well played!
Lesson of the Day: Removal See, kids? This is why "removal" is a thing. Because if you know you're going to be facing down a 'roided-up Froggo Boi, then you've got to be able to have ways of making sure that Frog-and-Slog Connection never hits you. Otherwise, you become that innocent by-stander in a restaurant that gets soup spilled all over you, because a waiter is clumsy and awkward. 😅
I love cards like inkshield, comeuppance, and selfless squire, but I don't see them get played too often, so it was cool to see Olivia make a big play with it!
Funnily, when I saw Olivia leave mana up my mind immediately went "That's despark mana". The fact that mana stayed up the whole time cemented it, she was waiting to defend herself. Then having played the Breena precon so much I expected inkshield or the squire and laughed so much.
Wow almost a full sweep of everyone getting absolutely shreked by a giant frog. Was expecting a settle or an inkshield from the “haver of things” as Eilidh said so eloquently😜. Turns out removal into thiccc boi of your own is also good
I did the Millenium Calendar with my Urtet deck. Tons of dorks, tons of alt-win-cons in that deck. Helix Pinnacle, Maze's End, Simic Ascendancy... it's a roulette wheel to see which win-con I'm actually going for with all those little guys. And Lux Artillery. Not a win-con, but really funny.
I put The Calender in my Tenth Doctor deck. My Doctor deck is all about lowering the activation cost of time travel & generating infinite (activation) mana with either Rousing Refrain or a series of convoluted tap/untappers (Saheeli LCI+Nimbleclaw Adept+Rotating Fireplace+Prismite) to either turbo the Calender to victory or spawn a bunch of Dinos & murder everyone with overwhelming force.
I reckon Cmdr. Mechanic could really have added torture to the calendar being a creature attacking and butchered singing the theme tune from Friends while doing so: "when it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year, but I'll be attacking you..."
Lol I just had a "Selfless Squire" win on my Commander night on Monday, so the casual, "I'm gonna flash in Selfless Squire" made me giggle really hard. Nice game.
Eilidh, I have won with the Millennium Calendar. It is in my Garth The One Eye deck. It has a lot of ways to untap Garth, which is also good for untapping the calendar. I also had Seedborne Muse going. If I was to make a dedicated calendar deck I would say definitely have blue for the untappers and artifact tutors. Maybe red for its artifact synergies. Green for its ramp and untappers. Then from there you can go counters synergies, artifact synergies that untap artifacts, etc...
I also used the Millennium Calendar to slap people in the face as a creature with Luxior, Giada's Gift. Tezzeret and untap artifacts have also let me use the alternate win condition
Olivia Reminds me of a Player in my Group who also always says, go and kill the others first i´m no Threat and then kills the Last remaining Player in 1-2 Turns xD
I was really hoping for a pt 2 game lol. I know it must be alot but id be down to definitely watch longer hijinks with more games😅. But yet again another absolutely epic episode 🎉🎉🎉🎉
There's a guy at my lgs who gets PISSED when you play instants at sorcery speed. Me playing my Jetmir token deck with a instant that makes tokens that I play at sorcery speed 😈
At the very end of the game I was CONVINCED Olivia had an Inkshield. It was close tho, A Selfless Squire. Great end to the game, VERY well played by Olivia. Let someone else do the dirty work >:)
Would have been a great episode to have Ben Brode be a part of or spectating in real time. And lesson of the day, sometimes it pays to be patient with the removal.
I've wanted to do something with the Silverquill precon since it came out. I started with Breena, tinkered with Shadrix, but never really paid much attention to Felisa. Maybe that should change...
Could you ask the mechanic to help me with my 5 colour Jodah the unifier & transformer friends deck 😅 I've hit the 'writers wall' part of deck building
Sad, the episodes keep getting shorter and shorter. Well the games are still fun, hopefully next time will be a bit slower so we can enjoy more banter.
As a person that has been playing for just over 3 yrs I have to say I don't understand why so many magic players HATE white border cards sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. Someone, please explain. I beg thee.
I would guess it's because a majority of cards people run now (that aren't on the reserved list) are black border, so they don't mesh with the aesthetic of most cards around them. It's the same as how so many people want all their basic lands to be the same art
@@dustyn4970White borders were the original border so if anything the people who should like it best are the older players who actually grew into the game with them. People just don't find them aesthetically pleasing.
@@PsionicMonk They weren't, though - The first set with white borders was Unlimited, which came after Alpha and Beta. It was used on Core Sets from Unlimited to 9th edition, to signify reprint sets. They've never been the majority of cards.
@@sheridanharding8905 adding on to your comment, I think the association with reprint sets is why people malign the borders. There's always, since the very beginning, been a stigma that white border is lesser than the original print.
