Thanks for this first impression, I realy like your reviews as it feels very honest and as much objective as it can be. That being said I'm a bit frustated now 😅 because I was expecting the same as your comment, "bigger V5" ! meaning a kind of SX V4 (that I own and realy enjoy) more popy and playfull.... Well, looks like it's closer to the V4 than I expected, or maybe by downsizing it to the L (I ride V4 XL)... ? anyway, looking forward to the full review. keep up the good job dude, awesome !
I really appreciate comments like this. I do not sell bikes and am certainly not sponsored and really want to give an honest impression as a dude who isn't a pro but rides a lot and loves where mountain biking is at currently. I hear you, honestly a part of or me wanted that too. Maybe a slightly plusher version of the V5 non-SX. However, after floating effortlessly over rock gardens and just riding it like a cruise missile I'm in love with what it was designed to do. That said, I'm not sure it'll be a one-bike solution for most folks. Which is fine...
Great riding! I was curious as to how this bike compared with the shorter travel full 29 V5. My son has the Tempo and it’s super fun. I’ve had some good rides on that. But for my riding and trails I want just a bit more travel. The non SX V5 sounds like the bike for me. Glad to hear it climbs better than the SX. Pinbike made the SX sound like it was a rather sluggish climber.
@@havenoutdoors584 I need to put more hours on the SX. For my next ride I’m going to run slightly less sag to see if I can get it to feel a little more sprightly while retaining its composure downhill. I wouldn’t call it sluggish but I also wouldn’t put climbing in its strength column either. The VS and TEMPO share more DNA than they don’t. I left the V5 really wondering what a coil V5 would feel like. That’s to say, the V5 climbs just as well as the TEMPO in my opinion.
Hey Jon, thanks for the first impressions! I'm thinking of buying one of these myself, though I'm sort of right in between sizes. So my question would be: How tall are you and what size did you ride? Also, does the bike have a flip chip?
Thanks for the comment. I'm 6 foot 1 inches tall and opted for an XL with a 500mm reach. I could've probably gone L but I tend to size up unless the reach is out of control *cough pivot firebird *cough.
Thanks so much for saying that, Jacob. I'm thinking in my SX Meta review that I will compare it against like bikes but am also considering a review where I just compare the TEMPO, Meta V5 and SX. Do you have any questions I could answer about how they ride? The TEMPO is much snappier and more responsive. It feels noticably shorter and is a lot more rewarding to pedal.
Hey Jon sorry for keeping you so long, I just demoed a tempo today and was blown away with how responsive it was cornering and it’s playful capabilities, on top of how it held up to the same standard as my 170mm Rocky Mountain slayer when I hit tech at speed. If you haven’t made your review yet I’d love if you could compare these features to the new metas. Keep up the great content!
Been absolutely loving your reviews!! I live in Denver and completely torn between this and the V5 … for riding mostly in the front range and occasional bike parks, do you like one over the other? I know I should go out to golden and rent but thought I would at least ask lol. Thanks!
Dude thank you! Ok for us I definitely have some thoughts already. If you're riding White Ranch, Apex and Deer Creek on the regular then you've got some climbing and the benefit of the V5 might outweight the SX. Now, if you don't care about climbing, even though it's all we do here in the front range, and you just wanna unapologetically bomb longhorn and Maryland Mountain, go SX. I'd far prefer having the SX at the park over the V5. It's actually a really tough call though unless you love trying to beat your timed climbs.

Nice, which color is better to hide scratches/chips, this blackglittery or clear silver that they offer, i am not sure wich one to purchase, what do you think? which is best
I do a protective cover on all my bikes then just pick the finish I like more. But between this and the glossy I’m not sure. For some reason the matte seems more durable but I’m not a scientist.
Thanks for dropping a line! So far so good. No creaks and lots of dry Colorado soil collected all over the bike. Honestly this is one of the quieter bikes I’ve ridden in a while.
Hey man thanks for the video. I was wondering is there any clearance issues with the water bottle hitting the shock when getting through that shock travel?
I will check how the shock moves in my full review but I have not heard it or felt it so far and I’ve been running a full size water bottle and using all of the travel.
I think it’s more important to evaluate the bike as a whole. There are mullets I love and ones I don’t. Generally I think the bike needs to have greater than 150mm rear travel to enjoy mullet. If you want livlier than stump evo I’d go v5 meta non SX. It’s one of the most lively rewarding bikes I’ve ridden in a while.
Hi, in a full review I would like to hear which bike is faster in your opinion. Of course, I'm referring to the competition between the meta sx v5 and the v5 full 29. You talk about the meta v5 full 29 being a very good climber and very active. I'm just wondering how this bike would ride if I put a 38 170 on the front and a coil or better shock on the rear. (V5 full 29)
V5 is faster in the turns and making lots of quick maneuvers. But the SX V5 drops the V5 hard through tech and high speed rough terrain. Completely different bikes.
Honestly not sure yet. I could see it being a V5 in Race build with the RS Coil. That new Scott Ransom has my attention but I've also had my eye on a Rallon for some time or maybe that new Occam LT.
I only ever spent time on the V4 Meta TR so I don't think it would be fair to compare. All I can say is that the suspension on this SX is extremely sorted out and feels amazing.
