This is a Tool Assisted Speedrun (with commentary!), meaning this run was made using tools such as frame advance and savestates. This is not meant to be a competitive time nor should it be compared to speedruns done by humans in real time; it is strictly to show what can be done in this game if humans were literally perfect. Enjoy!

I honestly wish more TAS's had commentated versions. As much as I love the chaos of Tool-assisted Speedruns, they often get really boring to me and I end up either falling asleep or clicking off. With commentary Speedruns, it gives me more to focus on and helps me watch the whole thing through.

@joxyver

This further proves why Kirby is the most powerful, he has 4th wall awareness and uses that knowledge to protect meta knights identity because even if Meta knight moved ever so slightly quick enough for Kirby’s eyes to not track his face to see him behind the mask, we can. Funny to think about this and would also be a funny reasoning of why meta knight so quickly became Kirby’s ally later on because he realized kirby being an all powerful being has a sense of honor that most do not.

@@chainswordcs The tricks/ways they break the game are the WHOLE appeal for me. I'm not a good enough gamer to be aware of the vast majority of these tricks, so if they aren't explained, they usually go right over my head. That's kinda the thing about speedruns: if you didn't know any better, you'd probably not even realize how insane the run is because they tend to make everything look _just so incredibly easy._ (As in, if I hadn't ever played this game as a kid, I wouldn't even realize how much faster than normal the TAS is moving around. I would just think that you always move that fast in this game! Without the commentary, the incredible achievements of the TASer would be lost on many people, especially non-gamers)

Honestly one of the best TASs out there. Commentary, absurd movement, weird tech, the works. What really sets it apart is the playabout in autoscrollers/cutscenes though. Most TAS's don't do much, but the little pointless challenges, the absurdly hyperactive movement, and the little touches like stabbing the eye on the frame it explodes, or hitting the background whale really made every second of this run super entertaining :D
@naride1093

this was absolutely incredible to watch. i've played maybe 6 or 7 different kirby games to 100% completion, and doing so has always been delightful, if a bit tedious. seeing one of the most content-rich games in the series get absolutely destroyed like this is just so CATHARTIC, and the commentary doesn't disappoint! there's so much more nuance to KSSU's movement tech than i ever could have imagined. i seriously hope this nabs a spot for TAS block at AGDQ because this is just pure unadulterated chaos through and through and i adore it

I would somewhat disagree with calling the Copy copy ability completely useless, it allows Kirby to copy abiliites from mini bosses before defeating them, also allows you to copy the Crash ability from Scarfy, an enemy that cannot be inhaled. Also when the Copy ability is turned into a friend, its the only way for the second player to discard an ability and switch to another one without Kirby having to replace it himself, or the partner dying.
@SampleChample
@SampleChample 2 года назад
Oh dang I didn't know about the scarfy thing that's pretty neat. Also, your point is really valid and I would've gone more in depth in the video if copy wasn't so short lived. The miniboss thing is actually used in IGT speedruns for the true arena which is something I neglected to mention. I'll also concede that if it were possible to TAS with multiple players (which I don't think is the case with this game since DS multiplayer is wack) then copy could be a pretty big deal in certain areas.
@nicocchi
@nicocchi 2 года назад
I think TAC, the Copy helper, also has some pretty nutsy damage output in Helper to Hero. He can't copy in that mode but the damage is much higher to compensate. Probably not going to be super relevant for TAS but since you mentioned some casual use of copying Scarfy or multiplayer, figured I'd throw that into the ring

@@NessMother2 Nah, the Chameleon boss can throw projectiles that give Paint when inhaled, and Heavy Lobster can also create a droplet projectile that can give Paint when inhaled. Paint I would say is damn near useless though, since its rarer than Crash, while doing less damage. It can change the Chameleon's color, and blind Heavy Lobster, but thats about it, unless there's something I missed.

I'm literally just echoing the sentiments of all the other comments on this video, but this is so incredibly well done! It goes without saying that you're very knowledgable about the game, and you devoted a huge amount of time in producing such an entertaining TAS. But putting in commentary that not only provides in-depth explanations of the content, yet also does so in ways that are incredibly easy to understand without pausing the TAS or otherwise ruining the pacing of the run is an incredible challenge, and you more than rose to the occasion. Not to mention you're a genuinely funny dude. (Adding this parenthetical here cuz I read some other comments after I posted: I personally was also a fan of the "dead moments" in the vid where there was no commentary. If there's nothing to say, I don't think you need to fill it up with jokes or information that's only tangentially related. Obviously you're free to do whatever feels more natural to you, I just want to say that you shouldn't feel pressured to do so. People are watching for both the TAS and your commentary so imo there's no need for your commentary to be forced. Anyway...) I love stumbling across unexpected diamonds like this vid, because I hop in thinking I'll see what's up for a few minutes, and an hour and a half later, I'm crying because it's almost over. I don't know what inspired you to make this commentated TAS, but I genuinely hope its success inspires you to do more, because you absolutely deserve all the attention this video is getting!

this is great both as background sound to do other stuff and is entertaining to watch and listen to the explanation of all the chaos that normally happens in a TAS really great vid 10/10 wish there were more of these

This was probably the most interesting video I've ever watched. TAS'ing is such an interesting method of speedrunning, and I love how you detailed your steps and how you got your nearly perfect run.

I think this TAS is amazing! There are enough glitches and interesting movement to make it fun to watch but it's not like OoT where the glitches have become so complicated to the point where you don't even know what's going on. Great video!

I didn't know this TAS had a commentary at all, this was a lot of fun to watch! Your commentary was not just insightful but pretty entertaining as well, I could listen to you talking about stupid garbage whenever. (Not to imply any of this was stupid garbage, if anything it was smart garbage.) This was a lot of fun both for the TAS Itself and hearing your commentary, thank you so much for to playing this game!

Amazing run and I LOVE the commentary, this is one of my favorite games of all time and I can’t explain how much I hate that room at 20:40 with the sleep statues, it terrified me as a kid and still took quite a lot of time earlier this year when I played through the SNES version.

Geez did this take me back. I remember playing this game in middle school and it's so cool to see a TAS, much moreso with commentary on it. And those icons signaling Kirby's status like "DONE FOR..." hecking spooked me.

Now THIS, right here, is quality. My attention span usually isn't good enough to sit through videos this long, but watched the entire thing in one sitting because it was so enjoyable. The gameplay was the perfect mix of entertaining and chaotic, as any good TAS should be, and the commentary was so good it got EVEN ME to understand what the hell was going on! Absolutely top notch, i'm looking forward to seeing more stuff from you!
